I love the shape and feel feel of the gesrbox gx5 control, i still play with it often with 3.5 players and less. Wish gearbox had that shape for power paddle. Been playing for about 6 years and ive seen alot of the gx5 paddles more than any other gesrboxes.
For a power paddle widebody shape I think your best bet will be the new Neonic Flare Prime or the Ronbus Ripple R2. Gearbox keeps saying they don’t see the benefit of a widebody power paddle even though many have told them why it is beneficial.
Ive been using this paddle for about 40 hours and came from the pro power model. It plays a more complete game than the propower. Good pop, power and control. Twist weight did not affect me. I put tape on the butt cap and 1/2 wide lead tape 4 inches on each side toward the bottom of the paddle. Best gearbox ever!!!! Way better at control than the propower!
Nice review. The video speaks to how you are playing with it, how to compare my style of play with yours, and how the paddle might translate to my game.
I really wish Gearbox would have used the entire 24” the USAP allows. Make the paddle WIDER damnit! I have the Pro Power elongated and fusion (integra) versions. Had to put them away for a paddle with more control.
This new Ultimate paddle does have much more control. Demo one and see for yourself, you do not need to limit yourself to a wide body for power and control now.
@@rafaelfilippini3863 hey Rafael, it isn’t all about power/control maxing many are looking for a lower swing weight power option. Happy to chat sometime you know where to find me.
@@AllDriveNoDropPickleball Oh, you have a POD! As defined by the internets, LOL - In simple terms, a podcast is a digital medium consisting of audio (or video) episodes that relate to a specific theme.
Good review ! I was hoping for a comparison to the GB Pro Control EL. how does this new one stack up against that. My wife currently plays exclusively with the GB PC EL, and it's getting time to replace her paddle and im really wondering about the difference in play between these two paddles. She isn't one for drastic change, but I would buy her the Ultimate if it's an improvement over the GB PC EL.
Try our demo program or a dealer near you. The Ultimate has tremendous control, reset ability, with a little bit more power than the control version. The paddle will feel softer and much easier to control. The swing weight is comfortable due to the lower twist weight, so it stays very maneuverable yet has a ton of control.
Great video. I struggle with resets where the ball hits close to the edge of my Pro Power and just completely dies. I’m sure you’ve experienced the same. Did you feel like you had fewer instances of this happening with the bigger sweet spot on the Ultimate? Or do you just need to avoid anywhere close to the edge of the paddle for the full Pro series lineup due to the inherent design? They really need a slightly wider-body offering imo.
It is is bigger but with these edgeless paddle designs they all are weaker the closer you get to the edges. I think the Bread and Butter Shogun has felt the best towards the top for me
@@AllDriveNoDropPickleballI have the Filth,,is there really any difference with shogun? Mine starting to feel less poppier at transition zone when I want to drive it out of the air,,it's starting to feel soft in pop.
@@MartDeer I think the biggest difference is the feel. The Shogun is going to have a softer more pleasant feel performance wise they are going to be similar.
Great review. Probably not many comparable paddles. The cons out weigh the pros for sure with so many great paddles in the market. The extra power is marginal for the price
We generally keep the twist weight lower, so you can customize the twist weight. You can always add the weight but cannot remove it. This year we did increase the swing weight about 5 points to give the paddle more stability, but kept the twist weigh customizable.
@@AllDriveNoDropPickleball Thanks! Have you tried the Gearbox G2 elongated? Have a demo right now & wondering if the Ultimate has similar control. G2 has great control & feel, but too tame in hands battles
@@AllDriveNoDropPickleball pop and power have very little to do with the swing weight. The pop and power come from the SST and frame design technology. A slight swing weight increase does not develop that much power.

I agree they should come out with a widebody version of it, not the narrow widebody like they have on the pro power instead a full widebody
We will have a wide body option, but I would suggest you try this Ultimate elongated it has tremendous control and reset ability!

Great review as always
Good review. Drawn in by the HUDEF Mage Pro Gen2 on the shelf😂
Nice review. Bummer on the swing weight (for me anyway). Wondering if they'll be making a short version like the original Pro series
I play the GB Pro Pwr E. The material and usage patents costs are extremly high, thus the price.
Good review could use more comparison to other top tier power paddles, but I'm probably not going out to buy one of these anyway.
Illegal serve 6:25 need one foot to stay planted when u contact the ball
No you don’t as long as one foot is behind it’s legal

Any plans on reviewing the Black Diamond Power 14mm?
No current plans, I didn’t get set one and already have a long queue going. I think there are a few review floating around on it.
Do you know if the surface will last longer?
Gearbox paddles in general have lasted longer on average than other paddles. If you are talking about the grit we shall see
Great review. Which one do you prefer, PPE or this one?
This one
Off topic, but did you ever announce the Maverix Havic 15mm giveaway winner? I can't see it anywhere in the community tab 😢
Yes, under the last post
Hi, did you test its spin/RPM? Cant seem to find that metric.
Yeah, I got 2202. It seems like everything is pretty similar these days. Most of these paddles you can’t tell a difference on court.
Swing weight, seems when they call their paddles the Ultimate all it means is the original weighted up.
Yeah, the good part is it feels way better with a better sweet spot.
@@AllDriveNoDropPickleball Thinking you can get that by weighting up the original?

Astronomical price + no discount with the codes they give? That's weak. Say no more.
Nothing against you, just how they are doing business.
The swing weight is too high!!
Shocked by SW and TW. More importantly, the price dissuaded me.
