    Leaving behind Law, Momo, and Kinemon was harder then I expected. They were with us since Punk Hazard, and are basically considered Strawhats in my eyes! Even though I know we'll probably see these characters again. Sad Yamato couldn't come 😢. Can't believe Wano is really over, we've come so far 💯! Love the parallel between Whitebeard and Oden and Luffy and Momo. With Whitebeard seeing Oden as his younger brother and Luffy who also considers Momo as his younger brother 🔥.

      Let's be honest. One piece is the most overrated anime. It only got famous because of these UA-camr "theorist". I remember them saying Wano would be the best arc but it turns out to be so disappointing. They probably worship the writer like their God because let's face it, there is no anime currently worth watching atm with the same caliber as the original DBZ, Yuyu hakusho, Rorouni kenshin, Inuyasha,, etc. One piece before time skip is great including the tv show, now the animation is just too dark, over coloured, boring and less frameset, and no context or humour at all. The writer also changes a lot of elements and plot which makes it more worse. The company is just milking money from baby millennial adults.

    The way I read the Hiyori scene is more as if it was a play that changed how the story is told to make the current shogunate look more heroic and validated. Similar to how Kaido's crew told their story in a way that made them look more favorable. But in this case I don't think it's necesarilly Hiyori herself that wants to give that message, but the people of Wano themselves. I saw it as some sort of commentary on how history is often told with just blacks and whites so it's easier to digest.

      The problem is that because it is shown with such beautiful art and dramatic flourish without any other contrasting commentary, it is not wrong to believe that Oda sees nothing wrong with that message. It directly contradicts Robin’s, Ace’s, and the Fishmen’s direct themes of their respective arcs.
      “Thank you for loving me” is a cry worthy moment bc Ace was told all his life that he was “born to burn” by society just because he happen to have Roger as his bio dad.

    Well Yamato did say “I’m staying behind, I’ve already talked to Luffy and the others about it”. Wouldn’t this imply that there was some discussing between her and Luffy regarding joining the Strawhats? It’s likely that she will join after taking care of some things. Probably shows up later in the story to save the day. Making her joining that much more impactful.

    • @haruhivt2405

      I like to think that Yamato's decision was a form of character development that is gonna be shown in a greater moment in the future. I think he stayed behind to protect wano, differently from Oden. Not protecting wano and leaving to fulfill his selfish dream was a flaw of his part, his failure, as he himself says even though he doesn't regret his decision. Yamato saw this and realized he has to do it differently (keep in mind that Yamato read Oden's journal), deviating from Oden's path and that's probably what he talked about with Luffy but cannot talk about with momo, for if that was the reason why Yamato wants to stay then Momo simply wouldn't let him. That one line from Luffy saying "I'll leave it to you now, Yamato" is a bridge open for that to be shown in the future. The way Yamato was built was almost a complete opposite from Vivi's, but although opposites, different sides of the same coin, so for the end to be the same for them would be a classic Oda move,. There's much more to it than "i just wanna do what Oden did" and it's something much more immediate than is Vivi's case. I think Yamato is gonna join very soon, it's not gonna take too long and he is gonna have a integral role along with momo/zunesha/pluton.

    Honestly I don't even bother that much about Yamato, I am more confused about the holes in the story that we were left with. Same as you said, Zoro backstory/lineage plus the consequences of the drug and the Grim Reaper, both defeated Yonkos are just there resting in the middle of the island?, and what about their respective crews?, Kaido's lackluster flashback, and all that to end in a few chapters just for the sake of rushing the ending of OP. I mean.. i still believe that Oda won't finish it in the next 4 or 5 years, and for sure he might tired of all this and just wants to end and enjoy his life a bit. I get that, but I doubt that he would risk ruining his own success story just because he wanted to rest a bit and enjoy life. The fans are more than happy to let him off for a few months if that means the story has no major plot holes

It just add to the moment when something epic in the future happens, and oda includes flashback to explain certain plot holes that just connected well. Yeah but that is still a massive departure from the kind of message Oda usually gives. Nami was equally brought up in a hateful and discriminatory environment, yet went on to reject it, adopting none of those personality traits. Same with Chopper, he was abandoned by everyone, but it didn't affect him beyond a bit of social anxiety. Sanji was also brought up in a similar, elitist and immoral household, again, didn't become a hateful person himself.

That the land of Wano hasn’t learned their lesson about discrimination and this could be a plot that ties into Yamatos devil fruit where it’s the guardian of the land and a guardian’s job is to protect and what she needs to protect is the people from themselves. Once the people stop the cycle, Yamato’s job is basically done and that could allow her to join the others.

    I have a feeling Yamato is a character that has been introduced as another 'flip side of a coin' that Oda loves to do. Just like Luffy is the light when Blackbeard is the darkness, Yamato is empathetic and loves the Samurai when his/her father opressed them. The plan for Yamato is definitely something to do with the final war: if Ace was the reason for the Paramount War, then it is likely Yamato (who wanted to set out to sea BECAUSE of Ace), will be a pivotal figure in that saga/arc.

    The end chapter wasn't bad (although there were still some loose ends they didn't really wrap up like: Drake, Hawkins, Apoo, (assuming Marco flew back to Sphinx), the former Emperors & their crews, and etc.), [Also, looking at the chapter's flashbacks up to now that was shown of their journey together made me realize that a lot of Momonosuke's interactions with Luffy was generally mainly the two of them yelling at each other a lot], but not gonna lie I'm sad about Yamato not coming. If she wasn't gonna join, then what was the point of introducing her like this with her intent to join Luffy's crew anyways?! [Especially with all that promotion appearances for her like in We Are One and/or the 1000 EP We Are Opening special and etc.!!!!] Specially as well as all the great parallels (like her actually filling the "Oden position" in the Next King of the Pirates crew; Luffy-Roger, Zoro~Rayleigh, and Sanji~Gaban [and I guess maybe Jinbe~Sunbell]) and possibilities with the crew; especially with all the setup that they did for her for more than Momo, Kin, and even Carrot. And even if after her tour of Wano, how in the world is she going to find Luffy & the crew in the first place?
    {Since we're in the final arc, if Yamato was to join the Straw Hats, now would have been a good time so that we get solidified time with her and the crew together before the final times truly draws near; just like Jinbe will now (and it wouldn't have been bad to have her join the same time after Jinbe officially joined cause the same thing happened with Franky & Brook)}

      Sure! A lot of intrigue at the end of wano, with things unfinished. Another thing that could conclude differently is the education that seems to follow in Wano of the cycle of hatred, perhaps it is resolved in the final war when, by losing the government for example, some countries like Wano want to "burn" the celestial dragons. Perhaps a great speech will help some countries to realize that enough is enough, that it is not about continuing with the chain. Its logical and natural that not all the liberated people go to have the good mentality as soon as Luffy saves them. At least, its what I like to imagine and hope for in the future

    I agree completely about the "play" and the message of "the kurozumi's will always burn" but I wouldn't count Yamato out yet. Either Oda forgot to show us her changing her mind or she actually didn't change her mind. I believe she want to leave Wano the same way Oden did, by jumping the last minute aboard the Thousand Sunny and then declaring that she will join them once again. Luffy, unlike Whitebeard, has already accepted her so it wouldn't be a problem but I can really imagine Yamato who really is the ultimate Oden fanboy doing that just to feel a rush of enjoyment for doing what Oden did.
    Personally I never loved Yamato THAT much. I think she was an amazing character that was beautifully developed but I felt that Carrot was somewhat more goofy and would pair better with the Straw Hats. That being said, even though I prefered Carrot as the new Straw Hat I also believed that Yamato would join and I still believe it. I even believe that she will try to replicate Oden's feat by being dragged by the ship but obviously failing because she has eaten a devil fruit.

    Semi English major here wanting to explain yamatos path of following oden, so in the west we value individualization, our writing is our own individual exploration, in old Japanese literature and culture there is a value in following the footsteps of those from the past. You will see in writing that the writer is following the steps of a writer before them, viewing the same places, ect, and this cultural aspect is part of why Yamato is written to be someone following in odens steps. It doesn’t necessarily mean literally copying him, but a deeper cultural thing that ties with the Japanese culture of wano. Yamato is the Japanese soul and cultural soul wano is representing.

    Even though I don’t the execution of this chapter was the best for Yamato, there was some set up for Yamato’s decision to stay in wano to make sure momonosuke was ready.
    For example, before the climax at onigashima, momonosuke confides in Yamato that he doesn’t want to open the boarders due to the nature of the outside world, this idea is expanded upon further during the battle against green bull where momnosuke insists that Yamato should retreat.

    Whitebeard -> Marco

    Kaido -> Yamato

    This would allow Oda to show that the old generation has died out, but is behind Luffy.

Our story teller was talking from Hiyori's POV, thus why he said that. It's not that Hiyori was there to talk in front of everyone, the Rakugo guy is transmitting the story to everyone else in Wano. My thoughts & opinions of the chapter:
    Now I know that this may sound like Oda is wasting Yamato's potential, but I am getting the feeling that she will join the SH the same way Jinbe did when the crew headed to Onigashima!
    If giving a copy of the SH's flag to Momo fully confirms that Wano is now one of Luffy's territories, will he do the same thing for any of the other places his crew has visited or ever will?
    When I read the part about what Hiyori said to Orochi, I can't help but fear if she actually supported what the people of Wano did to him & his family, and doesn't believe that the people of Wano should take any responsibility for the 20 years of darkness that they've partially caused? If so, then I wonder what Momo, Sukiyaki, and the other vassels might do with it since they should try to avoid making that mistake again?
    It is no surprise that the very next chapter will be the official start of One Piece's Final Saga, and I now want to know what you think the 1st chapter of the new arc will be about? Whether that be the SH going to a place similar to Jaya or Zou for more relaxation, some more reveals on what has happened to the people during the Reverie events, or automatically starting another Major arc that will go down in history such as Elbaf!?

    Some bad things don't erase the good moments we had through the arc.
    But in the other hand, the lack of capability to close this properly, damages so much the story overall, because we had TONS of loose ends that without proper justification, become just asspulls (yes, I'm criticizing incoherent twists and plot holes from Oda, come at me).
    This was the worst chapter ever in the series for me.
    I'm aware every inconsistency in Wano isn't fault of this single chapter, but at the moment you end the arc, the possibility to fix them is closed. And it's the first time we close an arc with that much (not talking about mysteries, just plot holes).
    And in a very personal level, the outcome of the Yamato character, was the biggest nonsense, just for the sake of forcing a plot twist... even worst than Carrot's from last chap. By far one of my favorites characters and the most hyped potential SH ever.
    The whole Oden thing was a constant hindrance for her development, and it culminated with her giving up the only true desire of her own will, because in the end she had no identity at all (be said, Oden didn't even wanted to travel Wano. He left as soon as he had the opportunity, even against Shirohige's will). I just feel like, why the f she was even introduced and built up through the last 2 years just to be crushed in the end? the whole character lost the purpose of being introduced. She had more development than 2/3 of SHs since timeskip, just to become a powerful ally in a final battle.
    Don't even want to talk about the resentment message Hiyori and the citizens gave us, because I was so pissed with the chapter at that point, that didn't even care about.
    In the end, after being built up for 8~ years, Wano was a good arc that couldn't live up to expectations, because lack of consistency and pacing issues.

    • @TheKanckesco
      @TheKanckesco 2 роки тому +1

      @@bikashit The story's not over, but Wano is. You can't just justify every loose end hoping to be tied in the end, because there isn't space to solve them all.
      If you reveal mysteries a lot of time after being foreshadowed, it feels great and Oda's really good at that. But if you try to fill a plot hole, it just feels poor and out of place.
      It's like trying to explain in Enies Lobby, Enel couldn't damage Luffy because he's made of rubber. You're just out of time.
      And even if Wano doesn't have such an inconsistency like the example, there's a lot of small holes that if you have at least some criticism, I feel it tarnish the arc in some proportion.

So it's just a parallel with "Oden is meant to boil" - "Kuroizumi (Charcoal) is meant to burn". Also considering she says it straight to Orochi who is burning in front of her at that very moment kind of points that it's a line directed to him rather than all the kuroizumi people that have existed.

    I thought Yamato staying in Wano would be controversial but Hiyori's speech was even worse.
    I think people took it the wrong way thinking that Hiyori was indiscriminately saying that all Kurozumi should die.
    That isn't the case, she was just doing a parallel to Oden and Orochi, and how he end up receiving the same ironic fate. Basically one last fuck off to Orochi... The catchphrase "Oden wouldn't be Oden if it wasn't boiled" doesn't mean that Oden deserved to die that way it was just ironic that it happen, it's the same with Orochi and the meaning of Kurozumi, it doesn't mean that the Kurozumi deserve to be burn, it's just ironic that in this case he deserved that fate for the 20 years of tyranny... It's just poetic that he receive the same fate as his archenemy Oden and the same fate as his family name meaning.(By the way Hiyori isn't acting this scene out, that panel is a flashback ).

    Oda never showed Luffy to care about strength, blood line, or infamy. Luffy has always cared more about the person and their friendship. Yamato literally had a third of a very busy arc to be introduced. Not to mention it would be odd to have a relatively new character join at the tail end of an arc.

    My thoughts on the chapter:
    Yamato not joining the crew feels natural to me. She did not really feel like part of the crew and she did not have any interaction with almost any of our main characters except Luffy. To me she was more of a callback to Ace and a strong character to assist the straw hats in this really tough fight, she played a pretty important role in the events of Onigashima. Also having the devil fruit of the mythic protector of Wano felt like her actual role would be to stay there and amend for her father's actions by protecting the new shogun and its people.
    In regard of Hiyori's declaration of hate, I believe that as a moral of the story it really missed the mark. But if you take in consideration the perspective of the character it's pretty logical. She has a deep hate for the Kurozumi and I do not really remember if she actually ever learned about Orochi's hard past. Her whole family was taken from her by the deeds of Orochi and on top of that he tried with his power to seduce her, basically tormenting her, her whole life. She as a character makes sense to bare that hate for the Kurozumi. And come one the word play with charcoal was pretty cool.
    I think we can at least agree that Oda did a very nice job saying goodbye to our favorite characters from Wano and with the whole little brother relationship he established with Luffy and Momo. A relationship that really fits them.
    Overall, personally I really liked the chapter and even though I agree that it wasn't the most satisfying conclusion to this Arc I also believe that whatever conclusion we got it would still seem imperfect and lacking.

    I really REALLY hope that Oda doesn't rush things too hard or else it might actually worsen One Piece as a whole in retrospect. Everything build up throughout the entire Story left to hang at the end of it, just like it happened here in Wano. Wano took 4 years, it's conclusion about 10 chapter. One Piece started 25 years ago, to wrap things up in ~2-3 years can basically only feel just as rushed. I think alot of people will be dissapointed that some factions won't get as much screentime or even any at all and important fight of e.g. the revolutinaries or alliences will just happen of screen. Similar problem to Wano again.
    Also yeah Hiyoris line got me fckd up too like girl this is the exact reason Orochi wanted to destroy Wano in the first place.

      I think it happened because he looked all his previous work and despite the fights the events etc. Wano is not Marineford and still is another island where the villain has to be defeated.So then he compared it to every other arc like that and he understood that he really jumped the shark and it has been too much of an arc.Perhaps he felt like the goodbyes would cost him 2 more manga comics so he just thought yeah , let's get this over with already.
      But i'm hopeful.We're seeing Kaido again , definitely , he's a dragon , no way lava destroyed him and Big Mom thanks to having the most versatile fruit in the story definitely pulled off a trick to escape being burnt alive.Apart from that , Luffy beat Kaido like a Pokemon beating another battle by evolving in the process.Meaning despite the immense power Luffy got lucky and on top of that , he has not total control over Gear 5 or his awakening.Still both the Hito Hito fruit model Nika and the Uo Uo fruit model Seiryu are fruits powerful enough to easily lift someone to Yonko commander level at least.
      We still have a ton of things to see and the future looks promising and prosperous.

    I honestly thought that Wano will have a mini arc or a post-wano arc just like post-alabasta or post-enies lobby to just slowly end the arc and explain what will happen next or end some characters arc, but I'm surprised by the last several chapters that Oda didn't explain much about what happened to other characters like marco, big mama, kaido and what the heck is Shanks doing hanging around wano?? Is he just trying to stop marine from going to wano just like Admiral Ryokugu???
    I think that Oda rush the ending of wano since it's a 3-part story setup (150+ chapters) and feels he needed to end the arc because how long it is and didn't want it to extend it more, and maybe explain in the next arcs about what happened to marco, big mama, kaido and shanks.
    *but the real wtf is still why Yamato didn't join, it's like a wasted potential. A real bruh moment*

      you know, 3 part story doesn't make sense. it would make sense if it was 4 part though. But last part being the biggest one is nowhere in any act structure. it is usually the middle one where all the drama happens. and last short parts are for conclusion.

    The ending was probably a take to reflect on how Japan is still prejudiced against foreigners. How many countries over the past few centuries have become open yet they still keep outsiders in specific, controlled spaces. People they never bothered to truly understand.
    Which set up against all the changes in the wake of the strawhats it makes sense to throw something out to counter the preceding ideals that have taken shape. To reinforce what everyone else has learned thus far.

    The only way Oda can solve this issue with Hiyori in my mind is actually showing us later that everyone of the kozukis and red scabbard who stayed in wano for 20 year's had the time to build up their rage against the kurozumi and become more radical than momo or kinemon. And there will be a conflict between the 2 siblings. Momo wants peace but Hiyori has other things in mind. Ther was no time during the raid to address this because they all had the same goal. But now where everything has settled in, the true motivs come out and there could be a civil war(Avengers) type situation amongst the Kozuki and Yamato has to solve this problem, proving that she/he grew as a person and is ready to join the Strawhats.

      This was my thinking as well. I know what alot of people want the story to convey based on the themes of the story but let's be realistic. Hyori's father and mother were both killed, she had to watch her people suffer in poverty, starvation, slavery, violence, and defective smile fruits. She then had to go undercover as a "call girl"and probably could rarely express her hatred for Orochi . Meanwhile she's forced to always play her father's favorite song for one of the people responsible for his death and the man she hates most. Most people would feel vengeful themselves after all of that for 20 years.

      There is no issue with Hiyori. The scanlators mistranslated the scene by pluralizing the Kurozumi name. Hiyori was ONLY talking about Orochi, making this entire scene much more acceptable. Let's also not forget the scene is a narrated interpretation, and wasn't actually said.
