My grandmother passed and I missed out on an opportunity to learn her recipes. I have not Haitian food since she stopped cooking and passed. I am taking notes while watching you. I made this for thanksgiving dinner. My father invited a guest over to join us. Let me tell you how this man (guest) cursed out loud because of the taste of this mac and cheese! I made this for juneteenth 👌🏽 my 4 YO said she never had baked mac like this before and requested it for her bday dinner tomorrow. All my siblings said they now have a new standard for baked mac and cheese. My vegan sister looked sick she couldn't taste it 😂🤣 Thank you for sharing 🥰

When I completed all of the steps I was so pissed at how watery my mac looked before baking it. Ugh! I just threw it in the oven with aluminum foil and stopped the oven when it was time. I was so upset I left it overnight in the oven! ( I made it around 1am ) the next day my mother asked me for some around 6am. I told her sure, its no good but Ill try again tonight. She tasted it and shared it with my family and to much of my surprise they all LOVED it! I was so confused. I was certain I did this wrong... my Haitian mother told me this was perfect. Do you know how IMPOSSIBLE it is to hear that??? She told my dad "menaj li pap retoune'l" 😂😂😂 thanks so much for the recipe! I love the taste!!!!
Not sure why yours was watery but next time don't leave cooked food overnight in the oven. Once the food is out of the safe temperature zone, bacteria begins to grow on it. Now you will be at risk of getting a foodbone illness. I am glad your family enjoyed it.

I made this for thanksgiving last year and everyone love it even my non Haitian friends. This my go to recipe for Mac and cheese. You will not be disappointed. I just prefer ground meat in mine instead but follow this recipe and your Mac and cheese will be a hit.
