Well we only have 1 and she is pregnant. The beginning of december we need to dry her off and we will for 3 months, she is due the beginning of march. After the calf is born, if we choose to calf share, we can, and as long as we have someone who stops by and feeds them, and there are lots of people that do that up here, we can have as much or as little freedom as we want. 70 cows? Nope, you are married to the farm.
@@NorthernSeclusionCongratulations and Now the excitement begins! Aussie here I'd wake and travel an hour to be at the farm by 3am Milk 600 girls by 6am! Unknowingly I was pregnant and a very tickly Jersey hoofed me darn hard in the nose I was bruised battered and Unknowingly pregnant almost 18 weeks still went to work the next day! Just make sure you have a guard to prevent kicks! Exciting to see your new moo moo friends ❤❤❤
Hey joe i can tell Melissa's happy. I hope everything Turns out great for the both of you. Joe i tell we are going to get long and cold winter this year. My old bones can feel it. Better get your out door wood stove ready. Take care joe and Melissa. ❤❤.
@@NorthernSeclusion excellent!! My comment wasn’t meant to be negative, more just trying to be funny like when people have their first baby. You get it I’m sure. ☺️
After watching this video, i we t back and scrolled thru previous videos and years. AMAZING to see how far things have come and continue to progress. Great Job Melissa and Joe
Congratulations! You've done a LOT of work to get ready for these cows. It must feel so good to finally have them there, and in their new home. Not to mention to be done with all that driving!
Joe this is Bernie, congrats on getting the steer and cow home. The first step in becoming a dairy farmer. Have you gotten any closer to getting the cream separator ready? Let me know if you need Gary's help. He's back home now.
Awesome Joe you two never cease to amaze me. I have learned so much just watching your videos. Best of luck with the livestock and whatever the next adventure might be.
Awesome glad you and Melissa got the cows home safely. My great aunt had 2 farms with cows she lived to be 100 years old and still had both farms when she passed. It's a lot of work. Blessings to you both.
The female cow just laying down chilling in the trailer. She seemed pretty content and looked like she was ready for a nap. Her face is so cute. She could also be saying “shh the babies asleep”
I grew up on my Grandparents farm. Those are NOT cows they are anchors. Twice a day, every day, tents days, fishing days & everything else. Gotta get home the cows need milked. Sorry I sound so negative but I hate milk cows but I did enjoy raising beef cows.
I am so happy for those cows because they are both underweight. They will have a much better life with you and Melissa. Look at what you have done for them so far!!! You are going to need to get some good barn boots with steel toes.
You'll find out... Cows are like kids... can't leave them alone. Two or three times a day to care for them. It was a life experience to be sure! Don't regret it but, would never do it again! Good luck!
Can't wait for the "who's idea was it to get cows"? video. Just kidding. You'll have fun. I worked on a dairy farm as a teen. Lots of learning took place.
Congratulations Joe and Melissa, glad you got the cows home safely and they are settling in well with the dogs too. They will be really relaxing to care for once everyone get's the routine going. Stay safe and enjoy the newest addition to your farm, it will be awesome. Fred.
Such pretty cows! My husband was raised on a small Dairy Farm in New York state. His parents sold the farm .He moved to Florida we met and married, that was over 57 years ago. No more dairy cows for him.😊
The homestead will be generating enough work that Melissa may need to consider quitting her job. You are running out of hours in a day for all you have to do. Wishing you & Melissa much success in homesteading. It seems to agree with both of you.
Thanks for taking us along this ride Joe and Melissa! Looking forward to whatever is next! I hope the hay lasts through your bone chilling winter...! 😊
so cool congrats you all...your in for a awesome interesting journey. Thank you so much for shareing..Couple beef cows you all be set...cant wait for the next one.........
Like the dairy farmer in New York do, they get up at 3 in the morning go feed the cows and other family members milk them. They have a lot of cows that never go outside. They are all separated within their many buildings.
It took an hour or so the first day each time but today it took a half hour each time we milked. It really is not that much work. What is a lot of work right now is figuring out the way things need to be set up so it is comfortable to do the added tasks. Getting things set up correctly will take a little time.
Joe you are a natural at this farming stuff hope Chunky and Joanie can acclimate well with the cows and they can all get along. Good job on the continued development of the homestead!
I milked 70 cows twice a day most of my child hood! When dad sold em we celebrated! It’s a pain in the ass! They’ll tie you down! Good luck!

@@NorthernSeclusion, no different than having pets. If you enjoy it you make it work. Looks like Melissa needs an ice cream churn
@@CraigGrant-sh3in having milking cows is way different than a normal pet derp
What plans do you have for all the milk? They both look really healthy!

I'm glad you added the introduction of the cows to the dogs. I didn't even think about that
I grew up on dairy farm, we went nowhere. Good luck, you will need it!
Good luck man. Let the learning curve and cow jail begin. They are going to keep you on the farm 24/7!
I will be in duck camp this Thursday through Sunday. We are going back up to Borderview Lodge ice fishing in February.

Joe I think you just got a whole lot more on your plate, just for milk !
pretty cool, Joanie is such a calm good girl👍
You did a lot of work preparing for the cows good job
They are beautiful. I would be a nervous nelly for the first few months. Im so glad she is so gentle.
Having a 1200 pound cow is intimidating in the milking room. If Mesa wants to go right and I want her to go left..... She goes right. Lol.
Well let’s see what’s the next thing on Melissa’s list…lol.
Joe this is Bernie, congrats on getting the steer and cow home. The first step in becoming a dairy farmer. Have you gotten any closer to getting the cream separator ready? Let me know if you need Gary's help. He's back home now.
Thank you Bernie. I will let you know what Melissa decides to do on getting the cream once we get a little more settled and get our routine down.
OH WOW !!! You bought those cows just a few miles from my place.
I think you going to need some muck boots!🤣
I love the sound of cows munching sweet grass.
👍👍
They will have a good life with you and Melissa taking care of them! 🐂🐂
Congratulations. You did alot of work getting ready for these cows. Thanks for the video.

Chester’s Chicken. 🍗 , Casey’s, Farmland, you made me home sick for a bit. Born n raised in S MN. Now in South America.

Super excited for you Joe and Melissa! Can’t wait to see all the good stuff you’ll do with the cows! Bring on the videos! 👍🏻
Yay🎉 finally get to see the cows. Joe I been enjoying this series of the farm. Fun to watch like watching how huge the turkeys got so fast.
Congratulations! Looking forward to learning with you

Congratulations 🎉👏 The cows look beautiful! 💕😍 I love watching them! 😊❤

Tip for keeping their water clean is to put 2/3 fish in their tank with a cinder block for them to shelter/hide 👍👍
I believe it’s time for some muck boots Joe.
Looks like they're pretty well mannered, didn't even faze her when the dogs barked at her. Looks like they are happy in their new home. 😊
Congratulations on getting cows
Enjoy that first glass of milk farmer Joe.

Well, nice, at least Joni likes the cows. The others will come around.
It would be nice to have a drain in your milking parlor would make it a lot easier to clean up.
Thank you for sharing your moments and memories with us. Congratulations on your new Cows! I look up to you. 🙏✌️😎🇺🇸

We always hauled cows standing up, partitioned off. So glad u got them home good shape
Boy Joe that cream that's on top is good. Makes good butter and ice cream!
The half gallon jars of milk have about a 2 inch cream line. That will make some great butter.
Woohoo! Congratulations!
This should be very interesting to watch and watch its development.
Glad you had a good day.
Does Sketchers make a muck boot?? just kidding.. Best of luck with this new adventure!!!
My dad use to play music for his cows, he thought they would produce more milk.

Very exciting! It's a new chapter on the farm.
Yay, the cows arrived! Wondering what the plan is for all that milk. Joe, you're going to need a bigger glass for your milk with lunch.
Kool to see the cows! The rental service should have rubber mats or cleats on the floor for traction.
Nice looking animals, your place is coming together!
