Cid could see the rift in the sky cuz he quit smoking cigarettes... it was nicotine withdrawals
Just remember when ever Cid is off screen, he's smoking like a chimney, just as sure as Yuffie has as many vape pens as she does materia. And Aerith's last lines to the party in the woods we couldn't hear as Cloud was waking up: "I gotta do my prayer thing soon, but I wanted to do a quick bump by the vending machines first. I still got that bag of coke that Scarlet gave me!" lol
It's implied that Cid had a connection with Ifalna, and he clearly cares about Aerith... So maybe that has something to do with the changes to him in being able to see the rift?
I friggin knew it!! I thought it was odd what cid said at the ending "what was aerith doing anyway"
The developers have stated multiple times that they have most of the story stuff mapped out. So if you put two an two together those aren't really "deleted" points, more that they have simply moved them to be explored in Part 3. The implication of Cid seeing that is simply too big a point to just be disregarded and would pretty much require a whole story rejig if it was fully deleted.
Just my thoughts atleast.
My thoughts exactly. Just the mere existence of this stuff is fascinating. The devs- likely didn't want to say too much too soon.
Cloud might also have a sense that the party is GOING to be able to see the rift soon, and is warning them ahead of time
I saw that reddit thread earlier. My guess is that the devs probably played around with a bunch of outcomes while they were waiting for the final script to come in
For the Cid quote, I think it might have to do with how neither Cid (nor Vincent) were part of the 'first world' in Remake or whatever people want to call it these days. It's like Cid and Vincent are part of another time/world. That's the only thing I can think of logically. But it was either just because it would have spoiled part 3's scenario or it was something they ditched entirely.
When you mean world are you stating optional characters? Because Cid was apart of that while Vincent and Yufu were optional.
I love your channel! Subscribed!
Great choice!
Cid's a pilot, so possibly was immediately concerned with what could have been in the sky and may have said it before looking up even. Only to see nothing.
My crackpot theory: *The Clear Materia is a gateway to other worlds, or otherwise interacts with the multiple worlds of the Lifestream.*
If we assume Aerith's "This sky... I don't like it" line is referring to a Rift, which makes the commonality between her and Cloud in the final cutscene _carrying the Clear Materia when they saw the Rift._
This can also explain Cid potentially seeing the Rift in a cut version. The cut dialogue has Cid call for Cloud to come over, before, while Cloud is presumably getting ready to board the plane, Cid suddenly sees the Rift. What if in this previous version, Cid came into contact with the Clear Materia while near Cloud, and so also spotted the Rift for a moment?
In the final cutscene, we see Cloud's perspective staring directly into the Clear Materia, and how it bends/reflects light. It behaves exactly like normal glass with light, but glass refracting light _is also the main visual motif of splitting worlds in the Remake series._ It is visually representing exactly what it does. Maybe Square figured that would be a better way to include this clue in the final cutscene than the Cid mystery.
It would also be a solid story beat. If the Clear Materia really is just a useless piece of glass, then it'll never be important again. IMO, it would be an ideal and logical subversion for it to end up being a critical plot point in the climax of Part 3.
Maybe Ifalna did the same Jedi mind trick on Cid like Aerith did on Marlene and Nanaki?
O maybe the whole ending is made of scenes from different worlds but put together in a way so that we think it all happens in one?
And one big question I've had from the beginning was how dafuq did they manage to fix the Tiny Bronco in a presumeably short amount of time? That thing had no wings anymore. Are we really looking at the beagle world there?
It's neat we have a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes however because it's not in the final game, I don't want to dwell on it too much. The Cid detail is interesting though. Thanks for sharing, this was new to me.
I know they're deleted lines, but the Cid line of seeing the rift to me implies that in the next game, they plan on having all of them see the rift
I think i figured it out. 3 timelines, each one is Cloud lives only, Aeris lives only, Zack lives only. Holy is actually a giant TIME materia. Three Sephiroths just like the advent children clones. Now .. the whole point of the timelins is each Has different parts of Jenova to make her whole again. So Final Boss will be Jenova Complete
Holy is a materia that preserves the planets destiny, the black materia is a materia that alters the planets destiny.
That's my take on it anyway, both can create "portals" into other worlds, aka the lifestream.
I wonder if Cloud’s line “don’t look up” is not directed at the group, but he’s saying this to someone who Cloud KNOWS can see the rift (who is being evasive about it for whatever reason), my guess is Tifa can see the rift, or Cloud knows Tifa will see the rift soon and is warning her ahead of time.
It sucks because I'm pretty sure Cid and Vincent were cut from the Sephiroth battle because it was already too long, but there were much better parts to cut instead: like the Bahamut Arisen Whisper fight. That only served to bloat an already long battle.
As for the Cid thing, I think there's no chance he would be able to actually see the rift. Like people have pointed out, that rift appears in the Lifestream Scene in the OG. Obviously still a theory, but the rift MUST represent the Lifestream, and I think the only reason Cloud can see it is because his mind is already drifting in the Lifestream, at least partially. Jesse's dad is in a similar situation, and he wasn't just added for no reason. I think he was foreshadowing wheelchair Cloud (and by extension this partially broken Cloud.)
It’s possible we will see Cloud/Aerith/Sephiroth at the altar again in Part3, but from someone else’s perspective. The water burial will no doubt be revisited (not glossed over) so there ought to be a scene leading into that.
I speak Japanese and the Cid line is very interesting. A more literal translation of that line would be something like, “hey/yo, look up, the sky!”
おい - hey 上 - up 見ろよ - look(at it) 空 - sky
Like you suggested, it could be Cid just messing with the Cloud. But idk. I can’t help but to think about how Cid has a connection to the sky/space and we are going to be going there in part 3. So maybe it’s possible he senses something up there. More than the others can.
What I find interesting is the line the used to replace Cid's cut lines. 'So what did Aerith end up doing?' We the viewer see Aerith there. but it's apparent that Cid does not. Maybe I'm thinking too much, but he lines were odd because of just what happen. We even see Cait and Barret get upset by his words. This line of dialogue was placed there is too show you that they don't see Aerith. Even though we do.
What if it did happen and Cloud blanked it out. If it is it would be good if the game back tracked in part 3 and shows us what happened in all the parts where Clouds head was being messed with…
The way the devs have been handling the endings of these games, and their interviews, it just screams that they are clearly not committed in where they are going with certain plot points. It was weird how they suddenly changed Aerith's last line in Remake just a few days before Rebirth's release, apparently to align with Rebirth's plot, indicating that they adjusted something at the last minute.
Same thing with the Zack scene at the end of Integrade, which was not referenced again in Rebirth. And now with the change with the script at the end of Rebirth, which could indicate two MAJORLY DIFFERENT scenario. One where Cloud alone notices the rift in the sky, and another where the whole party notices it. It just feels like the devs are desperately adjusting the story in response to fan sentiment, and explains why so many fans feel like this whole trilogy has felt like a tease. As if the devs are hinting they want to change something, but then pull back because lose their nerve or think they messed up. Very messy.
I have 0 faith in this third game as far as this timeline/lifestream/multiverse thing goes. I feel like they tried to hard to do something crazy and got lost in the sauce...
Don't judge a story until it's over.
@Melterer i try not to, but with us two thirds into the Remake trilogy, it didn't provide many answers to ...anything.
To my knowledge, Aerith's line change is *only in the English localisation* to align with a more literal translation of her original Japanese line. The localisers took a speculative leap to make her line more poetic in English, SE wanted it to be more vague.
The Zack scene is not directly referenced, but clearly foreshadows the events in Rebirth, he can't find Aerith and everyone in Midgar is depressed about something. There's not really a need for him to say aloud that he's already visited the church and it's actually evidence _against_ the idea this is all improv.
I don't see any evidence that the devs are adjusting the story in response to fan sentiment, Rebirth doubled down on the controversial elements of Remake. All of these adjustments point to one thing: Square Enix want the setup of Part 3 to have more mystery surrounding it, which lines up with many public statements that they wanted an ending open to interpretation so they can increase anticipation for Part 3.
That's not to say literally nothing changes and everything has been planned since the reveal, of course that is not true and things do change, but the broad strokes of these scenarios are laid out years in advance, they have to be for the game development process to work.
Omni-Cid confirmed
i wnder if it may be because cid by name only appears in multiple final fantasys same as gilgamesh hence the rift in the sky maybe for cid it may be a sub concious thing ?
Hopefully its because cids not the cid from the og and they havent just deleted his personality
Lol the devs had the characters talk about major plot points and decided to pull back..... of course they did. Gotta keep that gimmicky/subversive storytelling going to generate those online fan-theories... at the cost of the overall narrative... Did the same with the giant whisper harbinger and singularity "Hey guys anybody want to talk about what just happened in Midgar and the giant whisper god we defeated that 'changed our fates,' what does that mean?"..... NOPE!
1st!!! 💯🔥
