They're in Minnesota that day it was -13 . Love the looks on you face when you're in awe of what you're hearing. They have a comedic side to them also. Your chills were caused by the FIVE octaves covered from "Listen to what I..." starting at 8:11, by Tim Foust's bass, then Chris Rupp's baritone, then Rob Lundquist's angelic tenor, finishing with Austin Brown climbing the last two octaves to finish with "...I say!" It's amazing that the Ice Castles in Eden Prairie, MN didn't crumble with those bass notes that Tim conjures from the core of the Earth. Watch his hands when he goes deep. Sorcery, I say!
Great reaction. This song is several years old, the group has undergone a change and added Chance, who also has great range from Bass to Tenor. Did you notice that Tim, the true bass, sang the first lead as a tenor. His range is reportedly 5 octaves + and has on more than one occasion blown out the sub-woofers in their live concerts. These are just their Christmas songs, which are phenomenal yes, but wait until you hear their pop songs, R&B, Country, and Folk songs. Pentatonix is very good, I personally think that Home Free is just more versatile in style and ability with their sound and Adam as beat boxer. (Adam does an amazing drum solo in their live shows that true drummers think is amazing, just right but not too much). Keep falling down the HF rabbit hole. You are becoming a Home Fry!

I was listening to this in my car yesterday, and when Tim hit that extended low note, I literally yelled, “Damn, TIM!!!” I had never heard it so well before.
My butt vibrated! My speakers yelled! It was FINE! they do this just as phenomenal live ad on the studio. Auld Lange Syne is another must, Mary did you know, Silent Night. Thank you, great reaction. I prefer the straight in your face versus flash and bang. My play list for Christmas is only homefree. Colder weather.
I like the female voice in Pentatonix as it brings a different layer. Loved their version of Mary Did You Know but I just love the variety of Home Free. I feel like each individual has such a range that I have not heard in other groups. And the beat boxing is just another level.
P.S No need to feel you have to choose between PTX and Home Free. Just appreciate them both for their talent and how they approach the songs they do. They're both wonderfully gifted in their own way. It's not actually a cover of Dire Straits...exactly. It is a cover of the five part harmony arrangement from the Finnish A Capella group Club For Five. Tim asked Tuukka their bass for the arrangement and he sent it to them. Tuukka later highly praised it and said Home Free made it their own through the "echo" sequences.
Listen to HOME FREE MY CHURCH after the holidays. It's a country song, but if you don't love it I'll really be surprised. HF's approach is really simple. Everything they do is in service of the song. That is why the lead alternates between the four members. The beatboxer (Adam Rupp - founding member) prefers not to sing lead vocals. You will hear his beautiful tenor solo in HF HOW GREAT THOU ART.
I enjoyed the reaction. They filmed this at an ice castle in the Minneapolis area. The ice castle is built in different areas of the Twin Cities most years as a tourist attraction.

Home Free really took off with their Sing Off performances which is what made me a fan. I’m also a Dimash fan too, but you must watch “Unforgettable Day” at GAKKU. He wrote this himself and literally sings off the charts for his hometown fans. Loving Angelina too especially her version of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. You should check out Amira Willighagen’s first audition on Hollands Git Talent when she was just nine. Be sure to get the English subtitles because the judges comments are priceless.
I'm a Grandma and I want to tell you that I really,really like you. Your enjoyment is so contagious, I enjoy watching you more than the video's. You are obviously a superb human being, you just have to be. I get irritated with some reactors because they talk about the song and they have no idea what they're watching. I've watched every single reaction to Disturbed~ Sound of Silence. You saw the storyline that had completely escaped me. I didn't think that video could be any better, but you opened my eyes to what was actually happening. Your reactions are genius in my eyes.
These guys are something else. I like PTX, the same goes for VoicePlay they are really great but there is this difference between acknowledging great music and really love and seek it out on a regular basis and for me personally the second is definitely Home Free. It's not just how great they sound, I like their diversity, their down to earth, goofy personalities, the way they went out of their way to keep in touch with their fans even in this crazy times. You had to listen to some of their funny songs/videos - they can literally be like 5-year olds on a sugar rush, being completely hilarious and still sound amazing. Full of Cheer - an original written by Tim is a Christmas song and is a great example for their funny side.
Home Free, Pentatonix and VoicePlay are all great. I agree with my fellow Home Fries, they all have their own take on music. In my mind I see Home Free as Country-ish, Pentatonix more of a Pop sound, and VoicePlay as goofy musical theater. If I could only listen to one, it would be Home Free, them there are my boys.
If you havent already seen it, look up Home Free live concert Drum Solo. In a live concert the entire group walk off stage and leave the beatboxer on stage to do a drum solo. It's amazing.

I mentioned this on a previous video, but you really should check out their collaboration with Kenny Rogers. "Children, go where I send thee." Not a lot of frills, just great harmonies and a collaboration that Kenny himself sought out.

Ptx is good too I think what some of love about homefree is their personalities and homey feeling you get from them. Ptx seems more like Broadway ish shiwtoon ish but still wonderfully talented.
Two of my favorite Home Free Christmas songs are "Children Go Where I Send Thee" featuring the late great Kenny Rogers and "Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem" featuring the Oak Ridge Boys and Jeffery East. Although if you want to have a good chuckle, check out their "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" cover and "Full Of Cheer" written by Tim Faust (Home Frees' Bass singer). Aaaaand you have to check out their cover of "Auld Lang Syne" for New Years, it will blow your mind.
25 days of PTX quickly became 25 days of Home Free. Wish it wasn’t so hard to get PTX approved because their Christmas songs are AMAZING. Love Home Free, too. Have since the Sing Off, but I’m sad about PTX.

New subscriber and love your reactions. This and Pentatonix "My favorite things" are my 2 favorite Christmas tunes....as well as "Children go where I send thee" ft. Kenny Rodgers and HF "Mary did you know"..The beat is an actual vocal..and the bass is covered by Chris Rupp (Co-Founder of HF with his brother Adam Rupp) while Tim Foust (the bass) sings lead. In newer videos, Adam Chance covered bass when Tim sings lead. This was arranged by Adam Rupp, the beat boxer. You don't have to like one over the other...they both are fantastic and compliment each other with different genres and styles. You may want to look for "ADam Rupp Drum Solo" and look for the older one where he is wearing Red Flannel....then look for newer ones to see how he has improved and added to his "sound" collection. He is more of a vocal percussionist, as you mentioned, he mimics what an actual drummer would do and several drummers have reacted and said the same thing. They ALL can do basic beat boxing as well...check out 9 to 5 live with beatbox breakdown for a taste of what you get during their concerts.
I first found Home Free on the show the Sing Off, and i truly enjoy Pentatonix too. But, Home Free are so relatable and great group of men, I love all their music!!!! They are fun, caring ,supportive of women and quite fantastic!! Great reaction too!!
They just released their cover of "What Christmas Means To Me" Rob does an amazing job as the lead and it is a very upbeat and funny example of their humor. They all nailed it!

@larryshair 2nd time watching your reaction and wanted to share that PTX was the first a cappela group that I ever heard. Really liked them but as they grew they went in a direction that was not my forte but I still appreciate their God given talent. Home Free overall character and wonderful, memorizing ear candy draw me to them. 💖
Adam Rupp did this arrangement and did it brilliantly. I've read that he doesn't often do the full arrangements because they're so intricate that a lot of the time the guys can't cover everything. I'm certainly glad they accomplished this one though. It's a masterpiece of complexity. I never get tired of it. It's a toss up between if Tim's dragon breath will melt the ice castle or cause it to collapse from the deep vibrations of his tone. And Austin with the funky guitar sounds and clean vocals. Rob and Chris keep holding everything else down!
Before Tim produced that massive bass note he did a run down at least 2 octaves. Thanks for reacting. I am doubling down on Mary Did you Know. You don't have to choose between Home Free and Pentatonix. they are both great.
I am a female....so I think that entitles me to say that my main complaint with PTX is the woman. She's a fine singer....but it changes the temp and feel of the harmonies. I have sung with many choirs, but I have always preferred an all-male chorus to a choir featuring females.
Just a note, at the end of the video the guys will sometimes give pertinent information regarding the video. Even if you don't show that part, you might find it interesting to go back and listen to what they have to say. A lot of times they will give the location and in this one, they made special note of the fact that Adam Rupp did the arrangement. So glad you are enjoying their music :o)
That feeling that they have some kind of support instruments - seeing the UA-cam clip of Adam Rupp doing his 10 min drum solo (plus other sound effects) puts paid to that belief, it stunned me lol

One of my favorite HF videos. Absolutely amazing! As several have mentioned, this was arranged by Adam Rupp, the beatboxer. I've read that they don't do a lot of Adam's arrangements becaure they tend to be very complicated. Re your comments about the ice coming down....someone commented on another reaction that they thought the reason the camera backs off from Tim so quickly when he hits that massive low is because the cameraman was probably afraid the ice castle was going to collapse! I got to hear them perform this live about 2 weeks ago. Same arrangement. No ice castle but still absolutely amazing! Again, I recommend "Mary Did You Know". It was released earlier this month.
Home Free has a way to sing every song, with a slightly country twist, and that's what sets them apart from any other acapella group, and I love it. Who ever sings the lead, it would be the perfect choice for that song. They have on point harmonies and vocals, and Adam is out off this world at his percussion. Try their songs, "Cold hard cash", "Warmest winter", "Mary did you know" and must see "Full off cheer".

FANTASTIC... ISN'T IT! All made with human voices! Adam Rupp is a 2 time world champion beat boxer. There is an entire episode where Adam does nothing But a drum special. Of course it takes the entire group! Tim's bass is spectacular. The bass is Tim Foust, only before he went gray and cut his hair during quarantine! Chris Rupp left the group and was replaced by Adam Chance. This was never one of my favorite Christmas Songs until HOME FREE covered it. NOW, It is my favorite. Thank you for your reaction! I absolutely love your excitability! IT IS VERY CONTAGIOUS!!!
At first, I was a little hesitant due to the country feel of the group, but I am SO glad that I stuck with them. I am SO hooked. The biggest issue with being a UA-cam reactor is having to resist the urge to binge-listen to all their songs. I have to pace myself carefully and add these to my play list as I experience them with you all. To say the least, I think saying I'm a Home Fry, at this stage, is a massive understatement! I absolutely love these guys!

As music enthusiasts we are blessed to have groups like PTX, Home Free, & Voiceplay to enjoy! They all have different amazing qualities! I don't feel the need to rank one above the other! I don’t compare movie sequels. If the next movie in the series is good, I got good entertainment for my money. I don’t compare acapella groups for the same reason. If they’re good, they’re good, and I’ll continue to listen. No matter who it is.

No need to rank the two, each song stands on its own, they just happen to be both a capella. I was introduced to PTX first and then I discovered Home Free and I never looked back. I agree with Marcia. Appreciate each group for their outstanding talent and creativity. One thing to consider, as you’re analyzing their unique arrangements and tones, is that Home Free is an all male group while Pentatonix has Kristen AND Mitch that lend to a completely different sound structure with higher registers. I am in love with both groups! Each is unique and amazing. In our world of pop culture and manufactured “music”, these groups offer a reminder of what true talent and genuine beautiful voices sound like. Both groups are pure ear candy!

Your chills were caused by the FIVE octaves covered from "Listen to what I..." starting at 8:11, by Tim Foust's bass, then Chris Rupp's baritone, then Rob Lundquist's angelic tenor, finishing with Austin Brown climbing the last two octaves to finish with "...I say!"
It's amazing that the Ice Castles in Eden Prairie, MN didn't crumble with those bass notes that Tim conjures from the core of the Earth. Watch his hands when he goes deep. Sorcery, I say!

Great reaction. This song is several years old, the group has undergone a change and added Chance, who also has great range from Bass to Tenor. Did you notice that Tim, the true bass, sang the first lead as a tenor. His range is reportedly 5 octaves + and has on more than one occasion blown out the sub-woofers in their live concerts. These are just their Christmas songs, which are phenomenal yes, but wait until you hear their pop songs, R&B, Country, and Folk songs. Pentatonix is very good, I personally think that Home Free is just more versatile in style and ability with their sound and Adam as beat boxer. (Adam does an amazing drum solo in their live shows that true drummers think is amazing, just right but not too much). Keep falling down the HF rabbit hole. You are becoming a Home Fry!
I really hope you can rrea t to their song Everybody Walking This Land. It's an amazing song with a message that we all need to hear. Love them and Tim is one of the best bass singers IMO. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole, lol.
I was listening to this in my car yesterday, and when Tim hit that extended low note, I literally yelled, “Damn, TIM!!!” I had never heard it so well before.
My butt vibrated! My speakers yelled! It was FINE! they do this just as phenomenal live ad on the studio. Auld Lange Syne is another must, Mary did you know, Silent Night. Thank you, great reaction. I prefer the straight in your face versus flash and bang. My play list for Christmas is only homefree. Colder weather.

I like the female voice in Pentatonix as it brings a different layer. Loved their version of Mary Did You Know but I just love the variety of Home Free. I feel like each individual has such a range that I have not heard in other groups. And the beat boxing is just another level.
P.S No need to feel you have to choose between PTX and Home Free. Just appreciate them both for their talent and how they approach the songs they do. They're both wonderfully gifted in their own way. Yes! Very different vocal philosophy. Both outstanding in their trade.
It's not actually a cover of Dire Straits...exactly. It is a cover of the five part harmony arrangement from the Finnish A Capella group Club For Five. Tim asked Tuukka their bass for the arrangement and he sent it to them. Tuukka later highly praised it and said Home Free made it their own through the "echo" sequences.

Listen to HOME FREE MY CHURCH after the holidays. It's a country song, but if you don't love it I'll really be surprised. HF's approach is really simple. Everything they do is in service of the song. That is why the lead alternates between the four members. The beatboxer (Adam Rupp - founding member) prefers not to sing lead vocals. You will hear his beautiful tenor solo in HF HOW GREAT THOU ART.

This was arranged by the beat boxer Adam Rupp. No instruments what so ever. The odd sound at the end was Austin making a muted horn sound.
I enjoyed the reaction. They filmed this at an ice castle in the Minneapolis area. The ice castle is built in different areas of the Twin Cities most years as a tourist attraction.
That was a pretty incredible location to film. Amazing.
No need to compare…just enjoy both. They both won their seasons on the Sing Off. They’re both tremendous groups. They are different which is fun. They filmed this at an ice castle in Minnesota. They talk about it at the end. Adam the beatboxer arranged this and he is amazing. Adam Rupp Drum Solo (2015) will knock your socks off. He’s swallowed a drum kit for sure. Home Free goes more country but they sing all genres. I’m not even a country fan but I love all their music and they have a silly side. Three of the boys are from the south. There was one change since 2013, Chris Rupp (usually wearing a ball cap or cowboy hat) is the beatboxer’s brother and founder of Home Free. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo and was replaced by Chance (baritone/bass). Chance is tremendous too. For non Christmas music try Helplessly Hoping, In the Blood, I Can’t Outrun You, One Man Band. Good reaction and I subscribed.

Home Free really took off with their Sing Off performances which is what made me a fan. I’m also a Dimash fan too, but you must watch “Unforgettable Day” at GAKKU. He wrote this himself and literally sings off the charts for his hometown fans. Loving Angelina too especially her version of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. You should check out Amira Willighagen’s first audition on Hollands Git Talent when she was just nine. Be sure to get the English subtitles because the judges comments are priceless.

You are obviously a superb human being, you just have to be. I get irritated with some reactors because they talk about the song and they have no idea what they're watching. Welcome to my favorite song from my favorite acapella group! Everything about this song is top shelf. Absolutely phenomenal.
These guys are something else. I like PTX, the same goes for VoicePlay they are really great but there is this difference between acknowledging great music and really love and seek it out on a regular basis and for me personally the second is definitely Home Free. It's not just how great they sound, I like their diversity, their down to earth, goofy personalities, the way they went out of their way to keep in touch with their fans even in this crazy times. You had to listen to some of their funny songs/videos - they can literally be like 5-year olds on a sugar rush, being completely hilarious and still sound amazing. Full of Cheer - an original written by Tim is a Christmas song and is a great example for their funny side.

Home Free, Pentatonix and VoicePlay are all great. I agree with my fellow Home Fries, they all have their own take on music. In my mind I see Home Free as Country-ish, Pentatonix more of a Pop sound, and VoicePlay as goofy musical theater.
If I could only listen to one, it would be Home Free, them there are my boys.
If you havent already seen it, look up Home Free live concert Drum Solo. In a live concert the entire group walk off stage and leave the beatboxer on stage to do a drum solo. It's amazing.

Ptx is good too I think what some of love about homefree is their personalities and homey feeling you get from them. Ptx seems more like Broadway ish shiwtoon ish but still wonderfully talented.

Two of my favorite Home Free Christmas songs are "Children Go Where I Send Thee" featuring the late great Kenny Rogers and "Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem" featuring the Oak Ridge Boys and Jeffery East. Although if you want to have a good chuckle, check out their "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" cover and "Full Of Cheer" written by Tim Faust (Home Frees' Bass singer). Aaaaand you have to check out their cover of "Auld Lang Syne" for New Years, it will blow your mind.
25 days of PTX quickly became 25 days of Home Free. Wish it wasn’t so hard to get PTX approved because their Christmas songs are AMAZING. Love Home Free, too. Have since the Sing Off, but I’m sad about PTX.

Voiceplay, if you don't know are another Acapella group...They are more theatrical than PTX and Home Free, but equally as amazing....Voiceplay make up the trifecta of Acapella groups that are extremely popular right now.....
Keep an ear out for their bass, Geoff Castalucci......He also does solo work which is phenomenal.....
New subscriber and love your reactions. This and Pentatonix "My favorite things" are my 2 favorite Christmas tunes....as well as "Children go where I send thee" ft. Kenny Rodgers and HF "Mary did you know"..The beat is an actual vocal..and the bass is covered by Chris Rupp (Co-Founder of HF with his brother Adam Rupp) while Tim Foust (the bass) sings lead. In newer videos, Adam Chance covered bass when Tim sings lead. This was arranged by Adam Rupp, the beat boxer. You don't have to like one over the other...they both are fantastic and compliment each other with different genres and styles. You may want to look for "ADam Rupp Drum Solo" and look for the older one where he is wearing Red Flannel....then look for newer ones to see how he has improved and added to his "sound" collection. He is more of a vocal percussionist, as you mentioned, he mimics what an actual drummer would do and several drummers have reacted and said the same thing. They ALL can do basic beat boxing as well...check out 9 to 5 live with beatbox breakdown for a taste of what you get during their concerts.

@larryshair 2nd time watching your reaction and wanted to share that PTX was the first a cappela group that I ever heard. Really liked them but as they grew they went in a direction that was not my forte but I still appreciate their God given talent. Home Free overall character and wonderful, memorizing ear candy draw me to them. 💖
Adam Rupp did this arrangement and did it brilliantly. I've read that he doesn't often do the full arrangements because they're so intricate that a lot of the time the guys can't cover everything. I'm certainly glad they accomplished this one though. It's a masterpiece of complexity. I never get tired of it. It's a toss up between if Tim's dragon breath will melt the ice castle or cause it to collapse from the deep vibrations of his tone. And Austin with the funky guitar sounds and clean vocals. Rob and Chris keep holding everything else down!

Before Tim produced that massive bass note he did a run down at least 2 octaves. Thanks for reacting. I am doubling down on Mary Did you Know. You don't have to choose between Home Free and Pentatonix. they are both great.
I am a female....so I think that entitles me to say that my main complaint with PTX is the woman. She's a fine singer....but it changes the temp and feel of the harmonies. I have sung with many choirs, but I have always preferred an all-male chorus to a choir featuring females.
Now, you must do "SNOW GLOBE" and hear Tim, the bass, go to high tenor with an original song that he co-wrote!!!
Just a note, at the end of the video the guys will sometimes give pertinent information regarding the video. Even if you don't show that part, you might find it interesting to go back and listen to what they have to say. A lot of times they will give the location and in this one, they made special note of the fact that Adam Rupp did the arrangement. So glad you are enjoying their music :o)

One of my favorite HF videos. Absolutely amazing! As several have mentioned, this was arranged by Adam Rupp, the beatboxer. I've read that they don't do a lot of Adam's arrangements becaure they tend to be very complicated. Re your comments about the ice coming down....someone commented on another reaction that they thought the reason the camera backs off from Tim so quickly when he hits that massive low is because the cameraman was probably afraid the ice castle was going to collapse! I got to hear them perform this live about 2 weeks ago. Same arrangement. No ice castle but still absolutely amazing! Again, I recommend "Mary Did You Know". It was released earlier this month.

Home Free has a way to sing every song, with a slightly country twist, and that's what sets them apart from any other acapella group, and I love it.
Who ever sings the lead, it would be the perfect choice for that song.
They have on point harmonies and vocals, and Adam is out off this world at his percussion.
Try their songs, "Cold hard cash", "Warmest winter", "Mary did you know" and must see "Full off cheer".
It is 100% vocal. I feel the 2 groups are sooooo different I just can't compare them to each other, I love them both for what they are.❣❤🤗 excellent reaction 👌

It's all vocal, Larry, and it isn't only Adam (percussionist) who can make strange but beautiful "sounds"! I never want Home Free's songs to end! For me, it's like taking candy from a baby when their songs stop! AND, I laughed when you mentioned Tim's bass in the ice castle! Every time I watch this, I think the ice castle is going to completely shatter! NOW, it's time to watch the new "Mary, Did You Know"? I've watched it at least 100 times since it was released & I could watch it 1000 more. It is SIMPLY amazing with the main focus on the message of the song! Then you can wrap all these wonderful presents back up & open them again on Christmas Day! But first, you also need to watch their "goofball" Christmas songs to see that they can act silly & human but their productions & vocal talents never suffer one bit! At first, I was a little hesitant due to the country feel of the group, but I am SO glad that I stuck with them. I am SO hooked. The biggest issue with being a UA-cam reactor is having to resist the urge to binge-listen to all their songs. I have to pace myself carefully and add these to my play list as I experience them with you all. To say the least, I think saying I'm a Home Fry, at this stage, is a massive understatement! I absolutely love these guys!

Both Pentatonix and Home Free are amazing groups... and very different groups. I'm not a big fan of the Country sound, so I prefer Pentatonix. BUT, I love this song, and this is my favorite version of it. Excellent!
I don’t compare movie sequels. If the next movie in the series is good, I got good entertainment for my money. I don’t compare acapella groups for the same reason. If they’re good, they’re good, and I’ll continue to listen. No matter who it is.
I've never been a fan of country music either, but I LOVE Home Free! They cannot do a bad song. They're actually my favorite out of the 3 main groups.
If you have not done a reaction to Man of Constant Sorrow, you really need to do that one. If you are amazed by the beat boxer, Adam Rupp, you will be totally blown away by what he does in that one. And, of course, what everyone else in the group does as well.
They are a vocal band and can fill in the instruments sounds very well.

What you are hearing is Adam Rupps percussion, he is Fabulous and the Best at what he does !!! He also arranged this masterpiece !!!! I reall dont see the need to compare Home Free and PTX. No need to rank the two, each song stands on its own, they just happen to be both a capella. I was introduced to PTX first and then I discovered Home Free and I never looked back. But that is just my personal choice., I just feel the song more with Home Free.

I agree with Marcia. Appreciate each group for their outstanding talent and creativity. One thing to consider, as you’re analyzing their unique arrangements and tones, is that Home Free is an all male group while Pentatonix has Kristen AND Mitch that lend to a completely different sound structure with higher registers. I am in love with both groups! Each is unique and amazing. In our world of pop culture and manufactured “music”, these groups offer a reminder of what true talent and genuine beautiful voices sound like. Both groups are pure ear candy!
