    Could u tell me why feel is the mixed verb?

    • @EasyEnglishClass
      @EasyEnglishClass  6 років тому +2

      Some Verbs can be especially confusing:
      "The massage feels great." = The massage has a pleasing feeling. - Non-Continuous Verb.
      "I don't feel well today." = I am a little sick. - Sometimes used as Non-Continuous Verb.
      "I am not feeling well today." = I am a little sick. - Sometimes used a Continuous Verb.
      *NOTICE: The second meaning of "feel" is very flexible and there is no real difference in meaning between "I don't feel well today" and "I am not feeling well today."
      Hope that helped :)

    • @lakna1428
      @lakna1428 6 років тому

      Thanks you! But, " feel" is non action verb when we show sense. So, why can we use with " ing"?

    • @EasyEnglishClass
      @EasyEnglishClass  6 років тому +1

      These are the basic grammar rules... however, the reality is that people use +ing whenever they want to communicate an idea of progression even in a feeling - it gives it a little more weight. (forever: "I'm loving it")

    • @lakna1428
      @lakna1428 6 років тому

      Thanks you! But, is it formal?

    Excellent my sir,but if you please ,as you English Grammar is developing over the time, let me share ideas with your excellency ,in the general secondary education in Egypt we had that example * I ........ my classmates for many years now 1- have known....2- have been knowing .... and it was have known in the answer model as the verb know is astative one as your excellency has shown above ,but my sir, I tend here to use the present perfect continuous as knowing others and forming opinions about them isn't astate thing , it's acontinuous matter and isn't fixed as we are subjected to change our impression about others around the clock according to the different situations we share with us and this clear in our daily life , so i think it's aprogressive process , also , i think know here means communicate not the direct meaning of the word , moreover , I can't neglect the existence of the word now that confirm the continuity of the action .... and if we went away of this example to this another one * we have been knowing about the universe ,alot can object but I think sir that using the progressive form is the needed here to serve the full meaning as our knowledge about the universe changed over the time and we discover the new every minute , to sum up sir , as you know before not along time ago , dictionaries classified verbs to either dynamic or stative ,after awhile they added mixed ones and gave up some examples to verbs like think, have look even be that was one day abig mistake to be used in progressive and my very question why not know

    • @EasyEnglishClass
      @EasyEnglishClass  4 роки тому +1

      Hey there!
      The verb to know is stative because while your knowledge may change and 'progress', the fact that you know still remains unchanged.

      Hello, I hope this explanation helps,... Let me give an example with a dynamic verb - He jumps. This sentence implies that he jumps at this moment (but take note that there are some special usages of it). Another example (with a stative verb) - He understands the lesson. This is a different one, although it used the word 'understands' and not understanding, it doesnt mean that he only understands the lesson right at this moment, it could last for a long time (try to think of it in real life). Basically, what I was trying to say is that stative verbs are usually used when the expression last for a long time, so that leads us to the conclusion that we don't have to change the word 'understands' to understanding anymore. I really really hope that i helped you.
