  • Dear Joseph Kobia,
I hope this message finds you well.
I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the hard work and dedication you've put into your 3-hectare farmland, where you are cultivating coffee, tomatoes, and pawpaw.
Your commitment to farming in Mbuta, Imenti North, is truly commendable.
As you are aware, our region faces significant challenges.
Despite the fertile soil and favorable climate, the limited rainfall, lack of government support in connecting river water for irrigation, and insufficient electricity infrastructure pose major obstacles.
These issues have a profound impact on both small-scale and large-scale farming operations, affecting productivity and profitability.
The potential of the rivers surrounding our area, including the Kathita, Mutonga, and Thanantu Rivers, remains untapped due to the government's reluctance to provide the necessary infrastructure for water connection.
Like you, many farmers in our community are forced to rely heavily on seasonal rains, making farming extremely challenging during dry periods.
Moreover, the poor state of our roads further complicates matters, especially during the rainy seasons.
Transporting farm produce becomes costly and difficult, leading to losses as products rot before reaching the market.
The high cost of farm inputs, coupled with low output prices, exacerbates the financial strain on farmers, making it difficult to achieve a fair return on investment.
I understand that these challenges can be discouraging.
However, it is essential to continue advocating for the necessary support and infrastructure improvements that will benefit all farmers in our region.
By working together and raising our collective voice, we can push for the changes needed to enhance our farming practices and improve our livelihoods.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any insights or ideas on how we can address these challenges collectively.
Your experience and perspective are invaluable as we strive to create a more sustainable and prosperous farming community.
    Sincerely,
    Peter Maina Mwangi
