tried the skunk lure i spray painted today. Water temp 58 deg. killed em on it. painted a white bomber shallow "A" like a skunk. Great tip.Love the channel.
I painted a couple of the crankbaits that I carved out of the sapwood of cedar black with blue stripes I gave em to a couple friends and now they want more I guess I'll have to try one now
Yea nail polish is great I like to use the gel nail polish plus I have special lightbulbs to harden faster my wife uses it for her nails they sell silver flake as well so I add that as well on to my underspins crank what ever I feel like old Gregg 13 fishes great color
Arkie makes black crankbaits and not just in all black. Some crankbaits have a combination of black and chartreuse, purple, orange, pink, purple, etc., but they may have different parts of the crankbait painted in those colors. There are two sizes one is a smaller crappie (220) crankbait that runs 2 - 4 feet. The other is a traditional size (350) that runs 8 - 11 feet. I caught my second largest bass (3lb 9 oz.) on the crappie crankbait but it was in the sexy shad color.
I was just typing in to you to not forget about us custom crankbait painters and while I was typing you brought it up. I haven't been asked to paint black ones yet. But maybe now someone will ask for it.
Great tip! Makes sense, a black and blue jig works in muddy water. About 10 years ago a buddy got an airbrush set and asked if I wanted any baits repainted. So I took him about 75 various cranks and told him to paint them black. He couldn’t believe I wanted them all just painted black, so I said he could add an accent color here and there if he wanted. He fished some of them that Spring and was raving how good black cranks had been working for him on the muddy river.
Funny you mentioned black with a white stripe. I have buddies that give me a hard time about having so many but it's hard to ignore when they have been my top producer for years.
I have that exact black 6th Sense Crush, but always forget to tie it on. Just ordered a black lipless last night as well. Also good color for night fishing.
Hey Matt I fish a lake that use to have normal water visibility 2-4 feet. But over the years it is know muddy year round 6 inches. Do you know what would cause that?
Awesome tip Matt, my buddy lives in Oklahoma and fishes muddy water all the time and he turned me on to black… what an awesome color for that muddy water.
Always enjoy your videos my question is wouldn't they nail polish make it heavier and run different and both sharpie and polish have a negative scent for bass Thanks
It does add a little weight but i dont notice it running any different. as for the scent. I cant say its worked negatively for me. I use a lot of both sharpie and nail polish and do just fine.
Great tip. Going to have to do some custom painting. Don't fish muddy water a whole lot but it would be good to have a couple black crankbaits on hand.
Man- I had one secret, one trick up my sleeve- black crankbaits, and you gave it up. LOL- I actually got started fishing black cranks because of Epic Eric and his Junebug crankbait. He kept bragging on that thing and showing it off until I finally broke down and made one for myself- out of nail polish- and it worked really well. I took an old Lucky Craft RC 1.5 in a white color and painted it black with purple splatters- man it works really good. We have a lot of muddy to heavily stained water here in spring and fall- constant storms, and this color really helps. Black shad is another color that does good for me- as well as really deep, rich reds like chili craw or tiger craw. I need to buy some black cranks though- I got on a kick making them myself and just had fun with it but 6th sense has some legit black cranks , a whole series called Black Magic or something like that- that everyone swears by.
I started adding some color to different lures a few years ago. My grandkids questioned me with raised eyebrows when I bought a bottle of black nail polish. “What’s the nail polish for Pawpa?”
Great video! I’m trying to find a “do all” worm so I don’t have to carry so many different styles on my boat like ribbontail, senko, straight tail, curly tail, etc. If you were to choose between any of these worms to fish for most situations, what worm style would you choose?
@@MattStefanFishing thank u! I’ve been so confused on the types of conditions I would fish a straight tail like a trick worm rather than a stick bait, and vise versa.
Preaching to the choir on this one Matt. Black is the first thing I grab when I’m in the tomato soup color water. I carry black , white, and red nail polish as well as those paint pen that you showed us some time back. I make my own rubber shirt jigs so I can have black & red and black & brown jigs, which are hard to find and something different than the usual black & blue. I’ll sometimes add a strand or two of chartreuse. Check out Nishine Lures Chippewa Slow Float crankbait in Black Shad.
If the red color is the first color to disappear and turn almost black ? ,... if yes this red change to black ? for my own experience is it why i fish a lot with red lure in dirty or muddy water ;-) Thank's 😄
That black marker sure comes in handy! I always have one on me. My water is finally starting to clear up here. My lakes are generally pretty muddy from Spring to winter. Will definitely give it a shot
Great advice...I keep my pack of different colored sharpies with my tackle all the time. You never know what color you will need. I use red alot for marking up different bait and lures.
@@MattStefanFishing Done! Had some spray primer, black paint from painting my iron railing. I am thinking of a particular fish, broke me off. I bet he's never seen one of these before.
hey Matt! that is so ironic! I was just at a local Tackle store (Hammonds), on Black Friday and found a bin of assorted crank baits for flat two dollars each !!!! That exact 6 sense crank I found two of them. Personally, I’ve always used black cranks strictly for night fishing. Now if I come across muddy water, I will definitely add that to my arsenal. Thanks!
Matt - Thanks again. I fish the James River on Table Rock all the time and when we get a lot of rain it turns to chocolate milk. Spro makes a black Rock Crawler with 2 red stripes and tail glitter that I love to fish in the mud. It rocks on the Rock. Actually I throw it when we have good color too.
Ironically I was going through some old tackle this weekend and I actually have that skunk DB3 you mentioned. Sadly it hasn’t been used since the early 90’s. You can bet it’ll get used now when that situation arises. thanks as always for the info. Best fishing channel on YT.
I've got a question for you Matt we've been arguing this in my Bass club. It has to do with muddy water in a cold water situation like now early winter through January February. We have a lake here in my region that for whatever reason seems to do the complete opposite of what most of our lakes around here do and that is it gets dirty. And about half of us myself included have always went by the mantra that the dirtier the water the shallower the bass are going to be and I believe that to be true even through the winter months but a handful of guys are a Bass club absolutely disagree and they say that those fish are going to be deep because it's winter time water is cold and they do catch a few out in deep water. But in your opinion and what you've learned over the years does that hold true even in the cold water situation to the bass still tend to move shallower even when the water is cold or will they just go out and suspend shallower over deeper water? Kind of a loaded question I'm curious to hear your perspective on it
Fantastic information. Never use a black color. Never thought of it.
Give it a try!
Awesome good to know 🤘🤘🤘🤘 the 6th sense crank is probably Black Magic
it works!
Thanks Matt, great info 👍
Anytime!
Good in clear water too
Yes it is
Thanks Matt, I’ve used orange and done well
Another good muddy water color
Great tip. Thanks Matt!
No problem!
I had custom cranks built to match the Berkley power worm in blue fleck color about 4 years ago. Works. It WAS a secret 🤣
sorry

Does this also work well for East Texas lakes they don’t always seem muddy but visibility is often less than a foot.
Thx

my guess is the weeds are sprayed and no longer available to filter the water. or theres a lot of nutrient runoff coming in from somewhere
I guess I’m making another donation to tackle gods. I also really like the bandit mistake color for dirty water.
