Scott your Dad has been a life long positive influence in my Bass fishing. I started following him before you came along. His way of talking and explaining are for me the best. Here of late I have been following you and you are just like your Dad. I can tell you like him really are wonderful to learn from. I just like listening to you as I can tell you really want to help others to grow in this great sport. So I thank you and never change .

My favorite fisherman let me down!!! I’m actually kidding I grew up fishing the clear mountain lakes of north Arkansas (Bull Shoals, Table Rock, Beaver, Crooked Creek, etc.) so I was a little spoiled. The damn muddy water of south Mississippi where I fish now is tough...I hate the muddy water!!!

Tip Video Ideas: How to fish behind a power fisherman in a tournament, how to read water, identification of high percentage areas in all conditions, reading depth finders and using features like down and side imaging, when to choose a lure based on sight (color and action) or sound (vibration/rattles) is it all based on water clarity?

Finally a good video on stained and muddy water. My lake is a runoff for local fields so this happens a lot. What adjustments would you make as the spawn thins out and the heat turns up? You could do a whole series on different water and temperatures combine with time of year.

I used a Buzzbait here in PA when we had a week of rain and the water was REALLY muddy for the weekend when the weather finally cleared up. The buzzbait was absolutely my best choice. I also threw a Whopper Plopper and that was catching them left and right as well. I didn't have much luck on a spinner bait for some reason. But the Whopper Plopper and my Megastrikle Cavitron Buzzbaits were catching them just about every cast.

A lot of good tips. You mentioned to keep an eye on the water temp. To me the water temp is very critical early season. A good week or two of consistent 45 - 50 degrees is good pre spawn water temp for largemouth but you never mention what the water temp was when you made this video. I was very curious about the water temp, mostly because there was no leaves on the trees. But it's all good, I have a pretty good idea what the water temp may have been but some younger anglers watching, may not know what temps to look for. I think they would rather hear it from you vs hearing it from me or anyone else. I enjoy watching your videos, keep up the great work.

The video randomly popped up in my recommendations. Wasn't expecting it to be taking place on the lake near where I live. Lol
I've fished for various fish on that lake. Mostly fished below the dam my whole life though.. Above sailboat bridge, I flipped upside down over the railing of our gigging boat when my dad accidentally drove straight into a dead submerged log. Smashed my thumb against the railing when I tried to catch the limb sticking out of the water, but luckily caught the boat rail with my other hand and avoided falling in.
Another time, me and my dad pulled an all nighter on the boat fishing for catfish above sailboat bridge again. I dozed off. Then I heard a "ding" and opened my eyes to see my fishing rod flying off the boat in midair, before it dived into the lake. My dad quickly threw on a treble hook and caught the line. Got the rod back, but no fish. Lol
Then when we were camping in Bernice when I was a teen, some people were trying to parasail. When they tried to take off from the bank, the guy lifted his legs way too early, and the boat just dragged him several yards through shallow water filled with jagged rocks as he yelled in pain. I knew something like that was going to happen before they took off. Lol

Remember bass can see 5x greater than us under water so if you can see your bait 2 ft down a bass can see it from 10 ft away and that’s actually considered more clear water than muddy

Scott great muddy water tips I appreciate it, how about your lure picks for fishing in and around stumps, fall downs, and underwater trees, I have a hard time fishing a great river in ill for bass I always seem to be making a donation in fishing tackle out there so tops on staying snag free thanks

Bass have fairly limited sight in terms of colors, they can see most colors to a degree but for them some colors are a lot less ... well brighter? Maybe vivid is a better word, Red, and Green are the primary colors folks believe bass can see well, everything else just drops sharply. I believe it's more to do with bright colors reflecting more light off them making them stick out more (by contrast) vs everything else around it causing a semi halo effect probably similar to street lights at night maybe? but to a lesser degree.
We can say with a good degree of certainty bass can see Red, and Green as they are able to accurately find items of this color at a high rate 70%-80% of the time with every other color being sub 50% accuracy or lower. Red in particular has it's own issues tho with water, as it's a more difficult color to see in general (with low light conditions) even we have trouble with red and in muddy water light can be limited causing the color to appear darker and probably impacting their ability to see it well.
What I find interesting is the color green, no real issues with it in muddy water it tends to be more visible in low light conditions and bass can see this well. Almost makes me wonder if this is why green pumpkin type colors are so popular since bass can see it well, and it's nearly as visible to them in all types of water than red (mostly very clear water where red is more visible) but still interesting none the less.
