I like Layer up Terrible Teddy with Legacy of Petra, it lasts longer and smells very uplifting, and I name it "Terrible book reader" or " Rebel in Library"
Damn. You can make raw offal sound enticing. Must try this Petra thing. Hammam Bouquet came out in 1872? Blimey. That's two years after Dickens died. I love it. I've got a 500ml bottle of it I bought over a decade ago. Third of it gone so far. Thanks for a triumphant video once more.
You are correct, they have discontinued it as I was informed on my recent trip to Singapore. I found it quite similar to Killian’s angel share but still very unique in its own right.
A video or a blog post regarding reformulations would be very interesting. I have been annoyed about reformulations myself but in the case of Guerlain perfumes for example I had to admit to myself that I could not possibly know if the reformulation was not closer to the original version than what I had come to adore and miss. Reformulations gone well are an amazing theme I would think. The houses of Chanel and Guerlain are definitely capable of those. Molinard might be another good candidate. Robert Piguet? Floris? Food for thought. I will go and test Hammam Bouquet for sure.
I *love* your reviews, not only for the sake of perfumery, but your reviews are full of knowledge, and it's just a joy listening to you, and I can only say that about you and one other reviewer whom I shall not mention :) but I am debating over Constantinople and Petra, my fear of Petra is, the liquorice note! I know I know, it's a bit like saying I'm buying an Oud fragrance but I don't like Oud :D I do love Hemmingeay so I'm hoping in the same vein I'll like Petra, and I don't think I've come across a Penhaligon that I've _hated_ but obviously like a lot more than others, and trimmed my collection from theirs from 15 to 5!
@@Persolaise Ooooh! You may hate me, but I do have to say, I do love ATH's reviews. I do have to say though, you're review of Petra is spot on, and I think it's gorgeous!
Well, you were sadly right. They discontinued The Legacy of Petra ! Thanks for this review, definitely makes me want to put my nostrils on Hammam Bouquet !
After about 12 months instead of being discontinued it has finally arrived in Australian stores, managed to get a bottle and have to say it's a really nice Myrrh which given what Tom Ford has just released is an achievement in itself ;) .
Such a shame I missed this video when it came out - I bought Petra myself having reviewed it on Reddit and find it very charming indeed. Certainly their best release since Babylon for me. I almost wish they didn't actually go with the 'trade routes' theme for some of these, as I'd just like to enjoy them without the context! The tea note is superb in this one though, and everything is very well balanced. It almost veers towards being too sweet, but just avoids it. I'm thankful it's not another Sports Car Club.
I have a decant of the old version of Hammam Bouquet (probably from the 2000s), and I was very disappointed. I should really try the current formulation. Thank you for the review!
These sound great! Petra especially, as immortelle and licorice are some of my favorite notes!......do you know if it smells anything like Comme des Garçons Black? It's nice to hear some positive feedback on Penhaligons actually, I very much lost interest in the brand because of all those tacky releases of the past few years....maybe somebody did wake up in the Puig fortress......

Brilliant names :-D
Thanks for watching.

Thank YOU for watching. I’d say Petra is well worth checking out.

Oh dear -- I'm so sad to be right.

Maybe we should do it as a round-table discussion, Heinke.
I can only agree. It would be a great format for the theme. - and it had to be me of all people, proposing it 🤦😂

Now I’m curious to know who the other reviewer is.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write.

I’m very, very sad that I turned out to be right. I thought it was a wonderful piece of work.

Oh gosh -- I'm glad you've finally been able to try it.
Petra ? What did you think?

Yes, it really works, doesn’t it?
Thanks for watching.
Tried it today, I did enjoy it, a very nicely done amber, loving the licorice note. Did smell like something familiar though. 👍
Yes, I know what you mean. Thanks for watching.
I should try it and then buy it ASAP, before they discontinue 😉
Yes!

In that case, I’d be fascinated to find out what you make of the current version.
Need to try Petra as it sounds wonderful! Especially if it has a nod to the wonderful kokorico .
It’s well worth checking out.
Thanks for watching.
Brilliant reviews as always. On a related note, would love to know your thoughts about the recently released Highgrove Bouquet by the same brand?
Thanks for watching. I’ll see if I can do a review.

From memory, no, it's not really like Black.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write.
What dont people complain about these days? I consider it a celebration 😆
Thanks for watching.
I don’t have a problem with naming perfumes with exotic destinations.. argh the woke is really starting to get up my nostrils 😅
It’s a complex situation, and I hope that both sides of the argument take the time to listen to each other.
Thanks for watching.
I still miss Penhaligon's Elixir
I believe quite a few people do.
Legacy of Petra smells like old yellowish library book, I found it's short-lived - so it's good for librarians and book lovers.
Thanks very much for watching.
😂😂😂
Too niche for „modern audiences“. Already on it‘s way out. Also a lack of exposure here on YT.
A real shame.
Thanks for writing.
