- People always talk about how Splatoon 2 is soooooo much better than Splatoon 3, but the truth is that its becoming less and less playable each month

What saddens me is that this could be splat3 in a few years
I already have to queue for up to 5 minutes to find an x rank game in Splatoon 3 😭. At least this time the devs have had some foresight to put measures in place to not derank people from s+ if they are within the top 1000 which should help a bit

It will surely be. The solution, play it as much as you can and enjoy it to the fullest. I really repent not enjoying Splatoon 2 as much as I could when I was able, and now the certainity that I will never be able to do it again torments me every day. So just enjoy Splatoon 3 as much as you can while you are on time ❤

I still play Splatoon 2 once in a while and here’s what I notice:
- Ranked in just inaccessible
- Turf War matchmaking is… weird
- Every player is either a smurf, a person who refused to buy Splatoon 3 (or can’t buy it), a completely new player who thought they should buy 2 before 3, or someone who is level 55 and uses default gear and a Roller, only playing Turf War and not knowing about any other stuff like the Story Mode, the shops and other stuff like Salmon Run 😭 (I’ve encountered those people so many times I can’t tell you)
- Salmon Run is surprisingly active?
- Everyone still only uses Missiles and Sting Ray and such… even in Turf War
So yeah, the game is dead.

I played Splatoon 2 yesterday and the matchmaking for the first game takes around 3/4 minutes and after that games it takes 1 minute to get another match. That was my experience atleast.

salmon run is always dead for me, if I want to play it i have to do it at specific times of the day so I get put in with people in different timezones
Splatoon 1 Ranked was more active than that back in like December all the way to the shutdown lol. I was able to get Ranked matches consistently, even in C- (Since I had just got the game and a Wii U that month to experience its final days so I was starting out fresh) I got full C Rank lobbies. Meanwhile in Splatoon 2 getting in Ranked is luck of the draw, ironic how the first game was more alive than Splatoon 2 (I wonder if it still is, would be really funny if it was still more active POST-SHUTDOWN, thanks to Pretendo of course).
You gotta admit Splatoon 2 was fun while it lasted.
It had its moments but the spammy multiplayer environment was so annoying 😭😭. Hero mode is still peak though and octo expansion too

Splatoon 1 is more populated than Splatoon 2 at this point, and it doesn't even have official server support anymore, there's more people with modded Wii Us than there is Splatoon 2 players

@@FreshFalcon a lot of the parts that are better in 3 are so much better its hard to go back. at least with 1 it feels so drastically different that its easier to cope, but 2 just feels like a slower 3.

It seemed kinda ambiguous in the notes for me whether all posts would stop working or just anything that relied on Twitter, meaning you'd have to use Facebook instead. Because in the initial notes I remember they specified Twitter but said nothing about Facebook in regards to Splatoon 2, while mentioning both platforms losing support in regards to Splatoon 3 to be replaced with its own server thing.

my friend and i have been tempted to make a splatoon 2 discord, so people can find other splatoon 2 players and play together. i'm a huge fan of splatoon 2, its my favorite game from the splatoon series, so its super sad to see it so dead

You got yourselves a plus one for the servers right here. I personally hate what they have done with splat3, with how unbalanced it is, making it a game of who can spam their special best, rather than a game of skill. The only reason that I don‘t play Splat2 anymore is because I can’t que X at all. I even changed my region and tried different times, even in the beginning of a month, where everything resets, but no one is playing.
I think that if people knew that they could actually que a match, they would start playing again, as I still see a lot of ppl attending custom splatfests and other stuff in splat2.
I and many others would love to see this game come back, especially as many quit because splat2 wasn’t on the table anymore.
So please make a discord and some advertising and see how it works out.
Please make this server! I'm already in a server with plenty of people who have Splatoon 2, but just migrated to 3! I invited them to a Splatoon 2 private lobby to celebrate Splatoon 2's 7th Anniversary yesterday, but no one was available. I tried to que up Splat Zones multiple times yesterday, but I got a single match... It's worthy to note that I am X rank in all modes. Apparently, a lot of people are still active in Turf War, the most basic mode of all things, but it still takes a while to que up a match.
Even though thus may look exaggerated, this is killing me inside. Shortly after summer started, I found my Nintendo Switch afyer two years of not remembering where I left it. First thing I did after it charged, I opened Splatoon 2 and I played every single level of the normal walkthrough and of the Octo Expansion. I also beat every single boss, Commander Tartar and Inner Agent 3. While doing it, I felt an extremely big amount of nostalgia. Now, I play Splatoon 2 in my Nintendo Switch almost every day, and even though the R button for throwing bombs is broken and the up and down joystick moves on iself, I try to enjoy most of it. Every time I play it, I remember how a younger me, a 10 years old kid, would drop his schoolbag to the floor once he was home and he would start playing it too. I really loved the game: it was, by far, my most favourite game. I try to remember how I felt the first time I beat every level and boss. I remember how hyping and enjoyable Splatfests were and their special game scenarios got me crazy with their new mechanics. I remember how Calamari Inkantation and Fly Octo Fly made me vibe and sing some invented gibberish like if I was on a discotheque. I remember how I would always complete the final stage of Octo Expansion because of how much I loved it, it was my favourite part of the game. I remember how excrutiating and hard was to beat Inner Agent 3 (that thing was terribly hard to beat for first time, it really made me lose my mind). I remember that kid who wanted all that lore, excitement, suspense, love, characters and scenarios to be real and not just a fantasy in a videogame. I also remember how an even younger me, maybe 7 years old, played Splatoon 1 in his Nintendo Wii. All I can remember from it is a small kid who enjoyed the soundtrack of the game and just playing it ignoring the lore, all he wanted was playing and dancing. I look for my Nintendo Wii every day, hoping it still works amd that I find it before Nintendo completely unables playing even the normal walkthrough. Back to Splatoon 2, every time I play it, I do feel happy, comforted and nostalgic, but there is another side of me who wants to be a kid again, who wants to be able to play Splatoon the whole day without anyone to say anything to him or any responsibilities to bear, who wants to have another oportunity to play the whole day like there was no tomorrow, who wants to feel again for first time how it was to play each new level, beating each new boss, explore how the lore advanced, and see Commander Tartar growling on the floor defeated, who wants to play every single Splatfest there was like if it was the last Splatfest, who wants to play Turf Wars, Golden Fish touraments or do Mr Grizz work shifts... There is a side of me who just wants to be a kid again and play Splatoon 2 like it was the best thing to do (it would've actually been). I've recently heard there will even be a Splatoon 4 in a Nintendo Switch 2, when I didn't even play Splatoon 3. I will most likely never play any of them because of economic situation. Anyways, if I ever reached to play Splatoon 3 or even more luckily Splatoon 4, yes, I would enjoy it because Splatoon franchise is actually very good and enjoyable to play, but I would still want to make myself younger and play it like if I was a kid. No responsibilities, no studying, no social pressure and a practically infinite amount of free time, and the unawareness of how the world actually works and that time will pass and you will someday stop being a kid, would've made the gameplay expirience thousands of times better. Not only knowing I will most likely never see the real end of the lore, but also knowing that Splatoon 2, the one that was my one most favourite videogame ever, the one that literally marked my childhood, is now dying and falling into oblivion, making the possibility of doing the most affordable thing, buying a one month subscription to Nintendo Switch Online for at least playing a Turf War or doing a Mr Grizz work shift one more time, vanish and leave me eith the illusion, makes me feel really sad in the bottom of my soul, and is a really difficult situation to face. If you read until here, you might feel the same I do, and you can tell it is really hard to accept. Anyways, thank you for reading until here. Pray so that we can someday get rid of our responsibilities and nowadays society and we can feel and play like kids again. Big thanks everyone ❤️
Such a relatable comment. I used to get home from school, drop everything, kick off my shoes, and immediately boot up the Wii U to play Splatoon for hours on end. It was by far my favorite game of all time. What I remember the most is just an indescribable feeling of joy with how stupid fun and crazy the gameplay was. Even now I still yearn for that feeling.
I felt pressured to be excited for Splatoon 2 when the trailers came out, but honestly, I just wasn't impressed with it. I played it when it came out, but it wasn't quite the same. Here you go, move on from the game you already liked, pay a monthly fee, and in return you get an over saturated plastic-looking rebrand and a tacky sequel that was likely rushed for the release of the Nintendo Switch. Don't get me wrong, I still loved and appreciated Splatoon 2, but I think it was partly Stockholm syndrome. If I went back to the Wii U painstakingly, and I did at multiple points, I would have to have fun dealing with 10 minute long wait times to get into matches. Which just wasn't encouraging.
I also hated switch online.. once you bought splatoon, it was yours. All you do is pop the disc in and play. Having to pay a monthly fee to play a game that I was essentially forced to migrate to, I didn't understand the weight of money at the time but even then I knew how unreasonable and stupid that was.
When we were kids, we really just got to do whatever we wanted, if that meant sitting on the couch all day watching cartoons and playing Splatoon.
This is so relatable.
On a different note tho, once you find your wiiu you can use pretendo servers to still play a lot of online game, including Splatoon, on the wiiu.
It also works without modding the console, if you don’t want to do that.
Just google pretendo and you should find yourself a way to engulf yourself in pure nostalgia and happiness once again.
@@catsinwonderland7473 I liked Splatoon 2 better because of its lore and all the new characters, game modes and scenarios they added, and I didn't really care about the monthly fee because I was a kid and I didn't understand anything about money, but indeed, it is painful to know that we will never be kids anymore, we have responsibilities to carry and we can't play all day without anyone telling us anything. Splatoon 4 is about to release in a Nintendo Switch, and I didn't even play Splatoon 3 and I surely never will because of economic problems, and knowing I will miss the biggest part of the lore I loved to discover every day as a kid is just heartbreaking for me. Since I found my Nintendo Switch, the only thing I want is to go back to when I was 10 years old and play Splatoon 3 at that time. I would've also asked my parents to buy for me the Nintendo Switch 2 for me to play Splatoon 4 aswell, but right now, it may be impossible for me to even play it now. Even though it may sound childish, I really hope someday in the future, I just get one or two free weeks, I get rid of all responsibilities, I somehow manage to get Splatoon 3 and 4 with the Nintendo Switch Online fee already paid, and I just play the whole day and night for those two weeks, I discover the lore with an incredible amount of excitement, I feel the characters like if I was them, I play every single new game mode, and I vibed to the music, for one last time, like if I was a kid again. It will most likely never happen, but it's not completely impossible, and I trust God will some day make me feel like a kid again, in any possible way. Anyways, I'm glad I'm not the only one who misses good old times ❤️

I got splatoon 2 a week after release and i never got out of B+
It's still easy to get a match in Splatoon 2 turf war. It takes about a minute. Around the same time frame as Splatoon 3. Yes, I still regularly play Splatoon 2.
I've always liked splat 3 over 2 (despite the maps) but i'm still pretty sad that splat 2 is already being abandoned
as fun as splatoon 3 was and a good first game for me from the series, i just keep looking back at everything ive ever seen and loved about splatoon 2 and its just kind of depressing to see the game be left to rot like that
i loved watching all the splatfests and themed events with actual gear that they used to do in 2, maps are still kind of more interesting than 3 ( this year has been good enough for 3 but eehhh ), my favourite weapon classes come from 2, dualies and brella, and idk what else, just the lively feeling splatoon 2 had compared to 3.
i still want to play the story ( have not spoiled myself from it, still want to play octo expansion ( sorta spoiled myself ) so i will probably buy it someday just to do that.
like seriously splatoon 3 is 2 years old already and we still havent gotten much variety with gear, the catalogue keeps getting recycled and being grindy as hell, the entire city feels dead, so much space not being used, 2 YEARS and still no new hairstyles or pants 😭 like, seriously??
I’m going to be quite honest, I don’t play splatoon 3 as much as splatoon 2. Splatoon 2 is just much more fun than splatoon 3 because leveling up actually has a purpose, unlike splatoon 3 where you can just buy weapons at any level. Plus, splatoon 2 makes you actually buy weapons instead of getting a couple Sheldon licenses which are easier to obtain.
I can find turf wars just fine but ranked matches are just a distant dream to find

I open up Splatoon 2 to play sometimes, but every time I queue up for x rank, no one is playing! I guess I’m just never playing solo ranked online again.
See, when I've gone back to Splat 2 (quite a few times) is because I wanna play some of the maps/map modes still trapped in the game like The Reef, Snapper Canal, even goddamn Starfish Mainstage, Skipper Pavillion or some Splat 1 ones I prefer over the Splat 3 map selection.
And dont even get me started on maps they made worse like Manta Maria or Sturgeon Shipyard or literally every Splat 1 stage that they brought back in 3.
Its very frustrating because Splat 3 feels soooooo much better to play than 2, and there's not shit as annoying as Armor, Stingray and 2's missiles or shooter dominance.
But so much of the good stuff of 2 is trapped in that game which is barely played anymore.
And I get why, Splat 3 is so much better in gameplay so much more balanced and fun (mechanically, on paper) but man do I miss playing various maps and weapons of Splatoon 2 that either didnt come back in 3 or came back but way worse.
Splat 2 is the reason I fell in love with the franchise and its rough to see the state it's in, I just have hopium that its good map modes and maybe even some kits are brought back into 3 or a future 4th game. Maybe I'd rather take 4 if I had to choose because Splat 3's map selection is so atrocious and thats not gonna be fixed
I hate spending money on games that will stop updating at some point (I want devs to focus on one splatoon game)

I still play s2 less than a week after getting s3 at launch and whilst the waits are occasionally longer than back in the day I still find games regularly. I live in the uk btw.
2 is the best experience imo and S2’s maps are a major reason for me going back.3’s maps are insufferable and 3 could be better in every other way but once the maps are bad it’s literally so unplayable I can’t even bring myself to matchmake and instead leave my switch on all day lying to myself that I’ll give s3 another chance until I remember I dislike all but maybe 2 maps.

I quit playing Splatoon 2 just before #3 came out and essentially ended my S2 career at Level 89 with every piece of gear collected and upgraded to the maximum. I went back a little bit later and was pleasantly surprised how fun it still was and almost thought that I should fill out the first level cap and get the full abilities on the few pieces of gear left, but then I realized that there’s no point since the game is so old and I’ve long moved on to Splatoon 3 where I can get a similar experience. Expect the game to get shut down in another year or two. 😢 That’s the trouble with multiplayer games. When all is said and done, you only have the memories of the good times you experienced with no way for others to know just how good it was.
Well, here’s hoping Splatoon 4 isn’t cluttered with Battle Passes, gacha machines, uninspired amounts of returning gear that lost its newness when it was added to its original game, ridiculous fish scale grinds in Salmon Run for gear that was free before, inferior maps, and other kinds of bloat that make it clear the devs have run out of ideas and are just trying to artificially inflate the player count. 🙏

Splatoon franchise is one of my favorite games, and the 2nd Splatoon game came out on my birthday like 7 years ago (July 21st, 2017), and Splatoon 2 was my first Nintendo Switch game!

Hi. I still play Splatoon 2 a lot, even though 3 has come out (I played 2 before 3 came out). I have to say, it is quite a sad problem with how inactive the game is. It is possible to find lobbies, but takes a super long time, and often you'll have to revisit the same lobbies, if they're still up. I've noticed that at least for me, I'll find players a recognize, regardless of the time. I think that's due to the limited amount of players currently. Personally, Salmon Run is worse with lobbies, but finding Turf and Ranked games is very sad.
I can still find matches pretty easily but anything above S rank is dead in ranked or clam blitz from my personal experience. Since only time I have issues finding people is around EU times... Which is the same issue I had with S1 before servers got pulled.
Splat 2 is much better, in my opinion.
I just played Splatoon 2 like a month ago or something like that, my experiences so far was... something alright
Turf Wars: its somewhat active for me, though many people are either using spoofs, dumb dumb, some can't afford Splat 3, or just wanna play it in general.
Ranked Modes: Its super dead, like at one point I played it with my sister and we somehow ended up on the same team, it happened like 3 times and then after that, it became dead for Tower Control. I haven't tried playing other modes other than Splat Zones but couldn't match with other people
League Battles: Does anyone remember playing it, my sister and I tried to do League but its just completely dead. Hell, even if we tried to match with rando's on League it wasn't enough.
Salmon Run: I just tried to play Salmon Run and its been somewhat active, I ended up having to play solo, literally all by myself.... Which I'm surprised that ended up happening, despite being in Pro +3 I somehow lasted until Wave 3
This is just wishful thinking but I want like all of us to somehow jump back to Splatoon 2 just to make it alive like it used to before, cuz Splatoon 2 in general was really fun, there wasn't a lot of people using the same 5 weapons(I'm exaggerating), cuz there was a lot of weapons in different classes being used in every match back in Splat 2. Oh well at least I had a fun time playing Splat 2, even if it was dead
i have been playing splatoon 2 since i got my switch last december, it was fun, but it started to get more and more repetitive and it wasnt the game loop, it was the deadly wait times in lobbies, haveing to rejoin turf 5 times before getting a proper game and lets not even talk about ranked

There is absolutely NO way Splatoon 2 is better than Splatoon 3. Sure, Octo Expansion was the best single player in the series but what else does it have? Jet Squelcher with a STINGRAY? I’d much rather live in cooler meta than stingray hell.

Unpopular opinion: splatoon 2 was better than 3 bet not as good as 1
I’m what you would call the most casual of splatoon players. I played splatoon 2 for hours and hours with my friends. It is one of my most played games on the switch. Even after those two years of nonstop play, I only ever got to B rank. The game was so fun though, and I’ll always remember it.
Splatoon 3 just didn’t feel the same to me. Without the same group of friends I just stopped playing after 2 months and came back for the dlc. I feel bad about it, but It can be tough to keep up with an active community even if you once called yourself a super fan. I now only really care about story and lore anymore. I hope I will be able to participate in sploon 3’s Grand Festival though.
i would play it again if i had my acc back but for some reason it didn‘t transfer on my new switch and now i don‘t have any motivation to make a new acc on rank x again 💀
It's so weird because the game is less than ten years old, to me it has no reason to die. Kind of the problem with online games I guess
Why was hecking Splatoon 1 more active than Splatoon 2 lol? Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if it's STILL more active and it literally got shut down officially lol.
Nostalgia factor + not competing on the same console + some people just genuinely miss the first game
I have been recently sometimes visiting splatoon 2, Albeit I prefer turf war over ranked battles mostly but sometimes it takes longer then I remember to find player, and also I seem to find newer players mostly.
Personally, I want to play more Splatoon 2, but I just can't yet because of the hecking catalogs in Splatoon 3 forcing me to spend my Splatoon time on that game instead lol (and also Splatoon 1 took away its share in its final few months of official online, when I got both the game and a Wii U off Ebay just to experience it. No time for Splatoon 2 at all between that game and grinding 3). Once Splatoon 3 is "finished" and I don't have to worry about FOMO anymore haha, I'd like to return to Splatoon 2, the issue is...will anyone actually be online for it to be playable?

Um, this does not have to do with splaton 2 but, miiverse and wiiu chat are not working for me, I can't Enter in those programs, is it because i'm using the hackless method to connect to pretendo?

Bro I can’t even enter a turf war there’s no lobbies, I have a new switch so all my items and levels from splatoon 2 are gone so I tried to play turf wars because I was only level 1 and I could not find a game
Yeah its a bit easier when you're a higher level but starting from level 1 queuing is super hard from what I've heard
Splatoon 2 maps were pretty good, I feel like thats the only thing I miss. Though even then, my favourite map is Splatoon 3s Robo ROM-en. In Splatoon 2, the visuals are significantly worse in almost every aspect (UI, character models, lighting, weapon icons, everything just looks off) the movement also feels a lot worse, while also not having squid rolls which make midline / frontline mobile weapons feel so much better and less clunky in Splatoon 3. Over all the gameplay of Splatoon 3 is faster, more intense and overall more enjoyable for me.
Turf War and Salmon run are populated at least. Benefits me since i am not a competitive player whats so ever

lots of people will be playing once they announce the servers will go down, but for now, yeah its dead.
Player count isn't really a matter of quality, otherwise people would be playing the Call of Duty games from a decade ago and not be buying the new ones. Or even Pokemon wouldn't be selling anything anymore with their newer games. And checking player numbers solely based on people in the HIGHEST rank of the game is pretty dumb. Especially when plenty of people don't even play ranked to begin with, let alone the highest rank in the game.
Plus, while Splatoon 2 was great, it wasn't the best thing ever by far. It's just better than Splatoon 3. This series is a great idea that still after a decade hasn't been fleshed out because every release has either been a prototype concept or rushed out half-baked.
And as bad as Splatoon 3 is, the one thing it did better than the other two games was just quality of life changes. Whenever I go back to play older games of any series, it's to play it with friends. So in Splatoon 1 and 2 where you are more likely to be on the opposite team as your friend rather than on the same team as them, it isn't fun to do that. It's crazy that it took 3 games to finally have Nintendo realize "People want to play with their friends".
