I saw Neil Hamburger open for Tenacious D in Chicago. He was doing the thing where he'd drag the end out and not introduce the D. Someone threw a quarter from across the venue and smashed the glass he was holding. Then he wrapped up. One in a million shot. I will remember that till the day I die.
That's so nuts, I saw him open for Tenacious D in Brighton, UK and he was telling bad jokes about the late Princess Diana. He got booed so bad and he had to be taken off stage after everyone started lobbing coins at him
I saw him open for The D in Portland Oregon. It was fantastic theater, there's something enlightening about how he reveals the audience to themselves. No, the Pink Floyd joke didn't land well there either. He's so kind and brave to entertain the few that don't dress like slobs in his audiences. ❤
Neil Hamburger was the most memorable opening act I ever saw in 2009, before Faith No More in Melbourne, Australia. After getting the crowd to hate him for ages: Neil: 'You're here to see Faith No More?' [Crowd cheers, he turns to side-stage] 'Here they are!' [Crowd cheers, louder] [Pauses] Neil: 'More jokes!'
Haha that's a great story. Yeah Mike Patton LOVES having Neil Hamburger open up for this bands so he can weed out the audience if they're shitty or not
Everyone here should watch Entertainment (2015) if you haven't. A weird and fucked up movie but a great one, starring Gregg Turkington playing Neil Hamburger.
This was the first Nardwuar interview i've seen where he didn't bring any gifts or surprise him by knowing some completely obscure references that the interviewee knew. I guess he kinda got stumped by the great Neil Hamburger. I was hoping he would have asked about his days with secret chiefs 3 but nonetheless an entertaining interview.
@@Coloradiohead Not really the same thing. You could argue those clowns are characters, they are more of a persona of name and image than anything else. They arent playing completely fictional characters in person.

Five bags of popcorn is the highest you can go. Soda is not a rating. It is, however, a pleasure and privilege you can enjoy when experiencing a cinematic offering from Golden Hollywood!
I saw Neil Hamburger at All Tomorrows Parties in Minehead UK. I think Mike Patton curated the festival. I have never seen in my entire life in the UK a man pull out as many pints of lager our of their coat as this man did ... I counted 7. I was amazed and baffled and that is coming from a man living in a country where people regularly drink like they don't want to live anymore.
My roommate, a record collector, showed me a bunch of found comedy records including Hamburger's first 45rpm records...it was very unusual. We all know that Greg is a performance artist, right?
someone that actually matched nardys energy. Ppl be capping when saying someone matches nardys energy (small exception tyler), but this guy actually did and no one talks about it smh.
I give this 4 and a half bags of popcorn, and a large sprite, to wash it down in case it gets a bit too salty, because my local movie theater has been known to do that, which is a real drag
I met him after a show once and he talked to me about random 70s underground rock music for 20 minutes and held up the meet and greet line. He's really nice and very knowledgeable about music. A friend of my also met him in a bar and talked about the Bee Gees with him all night.
Wow I missed the opportunity to see mr turkington when he did Neil hamburger in my home town I woukd have been blown away.....I did see David Libra Hart tho.
I saw him perform Middle East Upstairs maybe 2008. After the show I introduced myself, then he replied “Hey, man, I’m Gregg!” I had no idea it was act at all, and had been listening to his records since ‘96. He loved that I was fooled for 12 years lmao
You can tell how much Nard respects Neil because he plays the interview so straight.
he aways plays the interviews the same way
