2001: A Space Odyssey had the most incredible spacecraft interiors. They attempted to ground them in a reality that no one had seen yet. Compared to many other sci-fi sets, they really held up. They are also fanciful in a way with the expansive floor and ceiling lighting which Christopher Nolan emulated in The Dark Knight. I also notice that the principal painted rooms in other sets like The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut are always so smooth and perfect. No smudges or fingerprints to speak of on the light switches. Kubrick had great painters in England and the crews kept these sets immaculate.
His architecture all seemed futuristic, even the period Georgian architecture seemed futuristic. But 2001 Space Odyssey to me looked the best. I really thought that would be the future when I saw the film. Thank you. 😚
Wonderful tribute!
