Are the toes in fudo dachi supposed to be facing your opponent, his look like their facing 45 degrees inward.

This is the correct sochin dachi where the edge of your foot point forward as opposed to fudo dachi. Look up "Lucio Maurino sochin" and has a great explanation how to arrive at the correct sochin dachi from Kiba dachi.

Yes for sochin dachi, different from fudo dachi. Some style do the kata in fudo, other in sochin
