  • I test the Birdkiss Metal Smart Bird feeder, which claims to be squirrel proof, but is it? The feeder is now available for $169.00 as of the release of this video.

I prefer the green metal one hanging behind you during the introduction. When we purchased our first one it was labeled as "squirrel-proof". When we bought 2 more several years later, they were labeled "squirrel-resistant". The 2nd label is more accurate. The do slow squirrels down and limit how much they take.

Admittedly, I'm not much of a techie, but it would be great if you could charge either from the solar power panel OR a battery pack. Or maybe be able to charge the feeder inside and bring outside, since the amount of seed storage is on the low side anyway. The metal is very nice (I love the orange, too). Thanks for the review!

Thanks! You can definitely bring them inside to charge them. The only thing is if you don’t get all the seed out it’s easy to get seeds everywhere inside your house 🤣

Looks nice, I like the humming bird feeder, suet, and jelly dish for orioles and catbirds. Love that it’s metal., thanks for the video. I couldn’t find a link to the feeder in you description?

I really wish they'd make these duel feeders for hummingbirds as well. I have two hummingbirds that visit every summer, it would be nice to view them up close without having to pay twice for two separate feeders. I've seen a few with small little cup attachments for hummingbirds, but they are SO small that you'd have to fill it like 5 times a day. They drink quite a bit, multiple times a day and if you have more than one hummingbird, the nectar will go by fast. I also don't want to disturb the birds too much trying to refill them all the time.

You might like the Netvue Hummee extension! I unbox it in this video. It attaches to the Netvue feeder and has a larger reservoir. ua-cam.com/video/OAm_xRIxOnQ/v-deo.htmlsi=jMxnIR8YeECcXVtV

How does it work for bears, and keeping the seed from getting wet? Looks like the roof/lid isn't very watertight. How good does it do in the wintertime with the camera in cold tempatures?

Maybe wrap the cord in foil to keep it from being chewed.

Derek, I have had this model of Birdkiss smart bird feeder since before Christmas. I have the green roof version.
I received it as part of the Amazon Vine program (in return for a review). I believe the Kickstarter was pulled last year, then the product was released, but then pulled. In any event, I also have the original Birdkiss feeder, and while I love both models, the all metal S1 is an improvement.
I have found the grid that goes over the feed tray frustrates some of the larger-beaked avian visitors, like the many Northern Cardinals in our yard, so I removed it. I have had no issue with squirrels since I also have a conical baffle on the support pole (and I have dozens of resident squirrels in and around our yard).
The suet ball has been a big hit with several types of woodpeckers, nuthatches and starlings (the latter are the bane of my bird feeder existence). I’ll be putting out the hummingbird feeder in the coming weeks.
Keep up the excellent, enjoyable work.
