I was part of the ASyd (Anon-Sydney) Chapter of Chanology about 12 years ago, and to begin with it was full of hope and affirmation. After a year or so of my involvement, it had devolved into shouting in-group memes and screaming them at a building. It had become a victim of it's own initial success as cliques formed and infighting began within its own internal structure. We thought we were internet super-heroes, but most of us were bored kids wanting to belong to something bigger than ourselves. The goal was pure and well intentioned, but the CoS saw us street kids for what we were, and waited us out until we got bored. To this day, I wish that I'd been brave enough to take further steps against the 'Church', but I had a life to build, and couldn't dedicate more of myself to the cause. This is one of my life's bigger regrets.
MelbAnon here! You're absolutely right about how it fell apart. It took a surprisingly long time to collapse, given the history of the movement. I think we were still at it almost a year and a half later, but the numbers weren't there anymore. The infighting shredded it, and growing up took care of the rest. But damn if it wasn't a fun battle while it lasted. I just wish we had been able to acheive more.
I was wondering this for a while and I’m glad I surfed the comments coming back to this tale a couple years later. This is very interesting and explains why not many came up after it. Thanks bro!
I always thought South Park did the Scientology episode AFTER the anon protests. Didn’t realize South Park was actually the catalyst for the whole thing
After Isaac Hayes passed, I believe it was his sons that actually came forward and stated* that the church actually sent out that statement about him leaving the show and forced him to stop doing it. They said that Isaac loved Trey and Matt and knew what they were all about so it was irrational for him to react like that.
Julio Ruiz If he allowed a representative to leave the show for him. Then he allowed it to happen. That’s ridiculous. Can someone quit your your job for you. Of course not. Out of pure curiosity I looked at the autopsy photos of Lisa McPherson just because I thought it would just be something weird to look at that wouldn't be that bad. What I have seen is nothing short of nightmare fuel. I have seen many horrible things but this tops them all by FAR.
I was a freshman in college when Project Chantology went down. My roommate's friends were /b/tards back then and asked me to go down to the Scientology protest in our city. I was told to cover my face, because their goons were filming everyone in attendance. Good times.
It is remebering this that makes me against laws trying to force Antifa types to not wear masks at protests... Those people are douchebags, but protesting anonymously is important in a democracy.
Wow...I did a report on the Lisa McPherson case in 10th grade (1999). I DID include the pictures. Needless to say, my teacher told my parents, my parents took me to a psychiatrists, it was a mess. But yes, i got a big talkin' to about doing school reports on touchy subjects. Joke was on them. The psychiatrists I mentioned: She told me that I should be a journalist, and that I should always push the envelope if I think something should be brought to people's attention. Now it makes sence. Psychiatrists hate scientologists right back. Lol.

The whole thing with Isaac Hayes leaving South Park was debunked by his son. Hayes didn't leave the show on his own fruition, it was initiated FOR him from a representative of Scientologist without his say so. Also, at that point, Hayes' health was deteriorating, he had a stroke that preventing him from talking, ultimately getting worse.
If he allowed a representative to leave the show for him. Then he allowed it to happen. That’s ridiculous. Can someone quit your your job for you. Of course not. @@InvAltDM Technically a cult is literally just a synonym for a religion. It means "a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object." It originally had no stigma. Now it's often used to refer to small groups of people practice religious beliefs that are regarded as strange or sinister. Which is really just subjective. But technically the major religions aren't small groups, so doesn't really apply to them.
it is a religion, the word cult is for small groups, which is debatable, but nonetheless its a religion based on one mans claim to figuring it all out, in this way it is similar to mormonism or raëlism although the latter two are much less dangerous. i suppose all major religions were small cults at one point.

Scientology does have a long history of black listing and destroying members that act out against them. Definitely reasonable to assume he was forced by the Higher Ups.
I read an article about Isaac Hayes and South Park where his grandson was interviewed. In it he stated that he believes that the Church of Scientology wrote that letter as Hayes was incapacitated with a stroke. He said that his grandfather was a lot of things but he wasn't a hypocrite. Absolutely true....I live in Seminole, Florida and my daughter attends school in Clearwater. Every morning on the way to school, we pass "Thomas" built buses that carry Scientologists from shitty apartments off Drew St & Keene Rd, and they bus these people from there to downtown Clearwater. You'd see empty buses heading for these apartments from downtown and when they head towards downtown, they are packed with wierdos dressed with black vests and long-sleeved white shirts. I see this shit every day and I'm always like, "WTF are they doing with their lives?!" I see the same thing in the evening in reverse. The buses are packed heading from downtown and the buses are empty heading towards downtown. I cannot believe people still fall for this nonsense "religion."
I live here too. I regularly ride a bicycle to the Fort Harrison Hotel, where, like you said, bus loads of Scientologists get dropped off, all wearing the same black and white hotel valet uniforms. Except for security who always wear suit/tie and have an earpiece. Clearwater is a very strange place. The police department is literally right next to the Scientology building, too, and a lot of locals think the PD is corrupted by Scientology money. I wouldn't be surprised.

I was around when all this stuff was going on and while I kept track of what was happening I never had any intention of showing up to anything in real life, I was just mildly interested in what was happening and curious about the outcome. A few months later when I'd kinda lost interest I saw an ad in the paper when I was looking for jobs asking to hire someone to "play bagpipes badly for 4hrs for a protest" and they were offering $80 to do it. My dad happened to have bagpipes, I had no idea how to play bagpipes at all but I could make them emit a terrible sound which was kinda what the ad was calling for so I called the number and was told where and when to show up. I didn't put together in my head it was the Scientology protest, I honestly didn't care what it was for I was just interested in the $80. When I got there and saw the Guy Fawkes masks it all clicked, and I had second thoughts about participating but decided I wanted the $80 more than I didn't want to participate in the protest. A guy ended up walking out of the Church building while we were out front and he started taking pictures of my face as one of the few people who wasn't wearing any type of mask - I just ignored him which seemed to make him angry. He got closer to me and took more pictures and said "If you don't stop playing those bagpipes I'll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life" or something along those lines. That really pissed me off, that this man would try and threaten and intimidate me like that while taking my picture. I told him I don't respond well to threats and that he would do best to go back in the church and leave me the fuck alone before I lost my temper. He laughed and went back inside. I was angry enough that I played bagpipes there another 5 times over the next 5 months of protests for free, protests I never had any intention of attending, that I almost walked away from despite being offered money to participate. After that interaction with that man I read more and more about Scientology and it just clicked in my head how they operated and how incredibly fucked up the way they tried to control people was. I started to understand how these people got trapped in a religion that I initially thought they must all be dumbasses for joining. I started to see that if they had got me at the right time of my life, and got me to invest enough money in it that I could be a Scientologist myself. Instead of feeling like their members should be ridiculed like I had in the past, I instead felt sorry for them. I reserved my hatred for those in power at the church, and those who did shady things on behalf of the church (ridiculous lawsuits and legal threats, dealing with "suppressive persons" via threats and intimidation etc) rather than the vast majority of members who basically have no idea that stuff even goes on.
StreakyBaconMan there is one "mistake" in your thought... Yes, you can "feel sorry" for The members. But many of them have been involved in criminal incidents... Also ask yourself, How can someone, who was a sci Member for his whole life, WHO never visited a public School, or university, Show never worked outside of The organization, WHO earned like 5-10 Dollars a week for over 50 Hours of labour... How can someone like this get out of The organization and be able To find a House To Rent and WHO buys a car...? Something doesnt make Sense To me.
@@meinname5788 I specifically said that I reserved my hatred towards those in power and those that did shady things on behalf of the church. Most members don't believe that anything shady goes on, and they don't personally do anything wrong - they just have the mistaken belief that those who run the church are honest and don't lie to them about these things. Those are he people I feel sorry for.
A pretty important part that you missed about their tax exempt status is that it WAS removed back in the 60s by the IRS, but the church sent thousands of legal threats to the IRS, even having members move to other states just to sue them from there, because the IRS legally had to respond. Eventually, the IRS reinstated their tax exempt status, and all the suits were dropped in the 90s

But the internet was only interested in them as it was entertaining to them.

Southpark spent a decade clowning Christianity and Islam but Isaac Hayes claimed religious intolerance when the satire applied to him. That tells you all you need to know about religion right there.
Isaac Hayes is just a hypocrite. Don't lump every religious person in that group with him. I'm a Christian and I am a fan of South Park. I don't care for a few episodes, but I respect the creators and don't bitch about them.
The church of scientology strongarms its members into presenting themselves in particular ways through active blackmail and other threats. It's easy to call him a hypocrite or other things while not knowing the circumstances behind the statement.
"We love you chef" Perhaps the only words uttered by a South Park character in which Trey was clearly being genuine. "He got his brains scrambled by that fruity little club"
I'll be honest, when the first protests were starting I was refreshing UA-cam every half-hour to watch new videos. It was crazy, it felt like history was being made at the time, and I was a witness to it.
One thing about Scientology that isn't mentioned in this video is that their cultivation of celebrities was a deliberate strategy on their part; and not just a byproduct of their southern California presence. They went so far as to "groom" young actors seen as having potential; giving them access to the "special levels" of attention lavished upon stars like Cruise at their special "Celebrity Centers"; hoping that as they rose in the business, their access and influence would be the Church's as well. That's how people like Remini wound up with their "brand" early, as well as Hayes and his surrounding entourage (even though Hayes' best days were long behind him by the 1990s). It made the Church a fixture in the dynamic show business landscape, both onstage and off; which has kept it alive through the multitude of scandals it has suffered over the years, and made it nearly impossible to eradicate completely, even by Anonymous' determined efforts.
Leah Rose - as much as you or I would love for a president of any persuasion to stamp out Scientology, it still falls under the category of "religion" so it can't be regulated in any way, shape or form.
I love how Isaac Hayes was all good with mockery when it was directed _AT OTHERS,_ but once it was _HIS_ "religion," oh no, suddenly it's bigotry and intolerance! Hypocrite, much?
considering his own son has stated that other people (also part of CoSI) basically wrote it for him... and that he is own record as stating he wasn't really offended as they did the same to everyone...well you get the picture

My stepdad is one of these Afrocentric dudes. I don't get what's so great about claiming other people's crazies, black folk got enough crazies of our own.
I interviewed a former Scientologist who's now a critic of Scientology on my channel earlier this year and asked him about the effect Anonymous had on Scientology. He was very clear that the campaign by Anonymous was a game changer for Scientology and that they had a big impact on Scientology.
The only thing I remember from the Project Chanology movement were a picture of a huge crowd, a man wearing a Futurama Bender outfit holding a sign "Kill all humans," and another man holding a sign which simply read "Is this thing on?"
One time back in 2018 when my dad and our roommate and I were walking down Hollywood Boulevard, a guy in a suit stopped us and offered us movie tickets. The entire situation really split the Chan boards. Many loving and participating, but just as many others hating it and seeing it as bringing unwanted attention to the site, or just a waste of time. During that time anyone wearing a Guy Fawkes mask was going to get ridiculed(EFG) on the Chan boards. I fell into the latter category at the time.
Thanks bro!

After Isaac Hayes passed, I believe it was his sons that actually came forward and stated* that the church actually sent out that statement about him leaving the show and forced him to stop doing it.
I wouldn't be surprised.
crazy to find someone in the comments who lives here!
i hope one day all these people are able to walk away from what they got themselves into and live a normal life without scientology running, and ruining, them completely.
A pretty important part that you missed about their tax exempt status is that it WAS removed back in the 60s by the IRS, but the church sent thousands of legal threats to the IRS, even having members move to other states just to sue them from there, because the IRS legally had to respond.
"Turn that poop into wine" L Ron Hoyabembe
I love how Isaac Hayes was all good with mockery when it was directed _AT OTHERS,_ but once it was _HIS_ "religion," oh no, suddenly it's bigotry and intolerance!
Hypocrite, much?
considering his own son has stated that other people (also part of CoSI) basically wrote it for him... and that he is own record as stating he wasn't really offended as they did the same to everyone...well you get the picture
Larry Wolf he didn’t want to leave the show. The cult forced him to
No church or religion should be tax exempt. Where's anon and 4chan when you need them 😟
Never pick a fight with the internet.
This is the kind of Nostalgia trip only the internet could provide to a Millennial who saw some of the most ridiculous things happen with the internet throughout the decades;
Anonymous, Scientology... a battle equal parts cringe and humor fought upon the internet and IRL.
I definitely remember that episode of South Park. I never knew Scientology battled 4Chan.
Hasn't 4Chan fought basically everyone at this point?
Gotta love the shade thrown at the MetokurVsSargon autism fest mid video
Glad someone else caught that lol. Us bloodsports fans are a rare breed.
Lmao I noticed that as well. I'll always be a Jim fan girl though.
Sweety Squad represent
I just want Jim and Carl to be friends again. Preferably with me. We could be roommates.
Can someone explain the joke there? I've watched videos from both of them, but I don't get it.
The biggest thing is also: the vast majority of scienetology members (especially those that stay in the church for longer than a year) all joined decades ago and they arent getting enough new members to be sustainable
I never heard Isaac Hayes complain about South Park cracking on Jews and Christians.
*sans theme plays*
me: oh boi
THANK YOU! Ive been hunting down this song for ages!
Y’all ever realize how much Whang looks like the Fawkes mask?
L Ron Hubbard was a black man, his real name was L Ron Hoyabembe
Yea about as black as woah vicky 🙄
My stepdad is one of these Afrocentric dudes. I don't get what's so great about claiming other people's crazies, black folk got enough crazies of our own.
and ate nothing but pizza balls his entire life
My favorite talk show.
@PIZZA TURN THAT POOP INTO WINE
I interviewed a former Scientologist who's now a critic of Scientology on my channel earlier this year and asked him about the effect Anonymous had on Scientology.
He was very clear that the campaign by Anonymous was a game changer for Scientology and that they had a big impact on Scientology.
To this day, Eric Andre is the greatest scientologist
TURN THAT POOP INTO WINE
2muchwhit1
TURN THAT POOP INTO WINE! TURN THAT POOP INTO WINE!
TURN THAT POOP INTO WINE!
The only thing I remember from the Project Chanology movement were a picture of a huge crowd, a man wearing a Futurama Bender outfit holding a sign "Kill all humans," and another man holding a sign which simply read "Is this thing on?"
vjm3
Chanology was dumber than Scientology
"most of those sites are still there to this day"
Well, here comes that low feeling again
Pour one out for YTMND
I was there for the Anonymous protests. I am not tech savvy enough to carry out a ddos attack, but was there for IRL protests. I miss those days.
One time back in 2018 when my dad and our roommate and I were walking down Hollywood Boulevard, a guy in a suit stopped us and offered us movie tickets. As soon as we saw the synopsis we knew it was nonsense. The guy insisted but we said no thanks and walked away. I looked up in front of me to the side and there it was. The Scientology building itself.
What's the music that's used during wise beard man's speech? It makes me super emotional, and I'd love to hear the whole thing!
I live in a town that has the primary scientology base. Which functions as a movie studio and country club as well as a concentration camp. Look up Gold base.
Oh, no. Scientology got tom cruise. Poor tom cruise
👌
Swooced right in with that comment.
I was one of the anti-Scientology protesters back in the day.
I miss the old internet of 2006 :/
It really is amazing how much online culture has changed. Now everyone has chosen a tribe and is constantly manufacturing drama to go at each other's throats.
@@SeekerLancer that's always been the internet. 2006 internet is cringe and just people being edgy or saying hard r n word to be funny. 2018 internet was ight. I think 2016 was the most lit
2018 was so bad that Anonymous ceased to exist LUL
Back when Anonymous was relevant R.I.P
12:45 This is how we should approach the BLM movement. It's an amazing movement, but there are ways we can get back without participating in illegal and immoral behavior.
The SIMPSON'S MOVEMENTARIANS
THE LEADER IS GOOD
THE LEADER IS GREAT
WE SURRENDER OUR WILL AS OF THIS DATE
second time watching this and I am tearing up with bearded guy... 4chan had the perfect advisor grace the leagon and i hope they are all very proud of themselves for listening to him
and those crowds outside the cos gives me hope for humanity, which I need to cut through my suicidal depression.
anonymous, you were heroes that day!
Him: Then they did what you should never do:
Me: WHAT IS IT
UA-cam: hey let me just *AD*

The entire situation really split the Chan boards. Many loving and participating, but just as many others hating it and seeing it as bringing unwanted attention to the site, or just a waste of time. During that time anyone wearing a Guy Fawkes mask was going to get ridiculed(EFG) on the Chan boards. I fell into the latter category at the time.
And that “anonymous” video released really pissed off a lot of channers. Mostly because one guy was claiming to speak for something no one person could EVER speak for. Claiming to speak on behalf of “anonymous” is like claiming to speak on behalf of the entire world.
lol, remember the Tom Green raids??
18:54 I am so proud of this community
Miscavige has been tied to all sorts of bizarre accusations like forcing a woman into marriage, excommunicating Leah Remini, his wife - whatever happened there
War....
War never changes.
Mark is smart. He knew taking the tax exemption from scientology would be a fatal blow
This...
would make a kick ass movie!
When Megalovania starts you know shit's 'bout to go down.
Scientology can take this “L”- Ron Hubbard
Budumtsss 😂
I’ll gtfo
I was in Minneapolis in 2009, and came across a group of people in Guy Fawkes masks handing out pamphlets against Scientology. Thanks to the people who were there, I wasn't even really aware what was going on, but it's something that stuck with me. That kind of thing is what made anonymous great.
