The adds are blocking the last two jet cars......
Your videos are great thank you for posting them
@@13699111 Thank you! I appreciate it.
Oh TY
thanks for filming this, awesome to see it from the stands! chuck is a hell of a driver and we have a great crew. i have the shot from behind the car on my page
That DeSoto is wicked. Love the diversity between old school cars and the newer cars. Ending with Jet Dragsters is a bonus!
The jets were a bit slow I've seen my share running 5s @300
It's not a DeSoto it's a Plymouth
5:48 That Firebird backing up must have set some kind of record! lol
I noticed that too. I was thinking: Damn, is he gonna get that thing stopped in time?
Backed up fast, I never had a race car I could see how back up with that much confidence
He backed up faster than he went forward.
😂
A DeSoto, Super Bird and a 1967 Cougar plus a rotary and jet cars! I'm definitely coming here next year!!
Yeah, the last few years this event has been just crazy. Little bit of everything. Love it.
Yes I was there Saturday. It was an awesome show for sure.
Back in the 80's my dad took me to Phoenix Firebird raceway (track changed names) and they had funny cars vs. jet car night. I also got to see a jet powered Porta potty at U.S. 41 in Indiana. Fun times.
That has to be the coolest looking drag car EVER!!!!
I hope if Christine ever crashes she is able to put herself back together! Love that Superbird & that jet powered Trans Am at the end!
Christine was a Plymouth.
@@nastybastardatlive I know, I had the Christine car when I was in high school 1981 before the movie came out & nobody would ride with me after that, only paid $300 for it & a year later a drunk driver T-boned me & totaled it! Love Trans Ams as I have owned quite a few the past 40 years because Smokey & the Bandit was filmed around my hometown {& Dukes of Hazzard} & I grew up on MOPARS as my grandpa was a Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge dealer from 1946 to 1977 so I have had many of them! I just love cars
Awesome car, awesome runs...we traveled across the west and back in the mid 50's in an old DeSoto when I was a wee lad...
Awesome! I was just 11 years old in 1959. I always thought this particular car was beautiful. How could you not love it? Even today, it commands a second look! I mean ... look at that stance!
@@ra5928 I was 12, what a fantastic time to be a kid, we hit the "kid time" jackpot...this DeSoto in the video is the truest "funny car" I've ever seen.
I doupt any part of the car is from a Desoto.
That DeSoto is my new favorite. That look is magnificent.
Now that's what I call a ride. My uncle had one of those with the 413 hemi and my dad's had a 361ci. Uncle Herms Sunday car was a hoot when he put the pedal to the medal.
Exactly what drag racing has always been about, Cool and Fast. ,🔥
Correction... Hard and fast!
Love quarter mile (NHRA too) drag racing. Will never get used to 1/8 mile and no times.
1/8 mile reminds me of monster trucks, a lot of wasted HP
Actually its' 1000'. The reason is that the speeds never increased after 1,000 feet, when these cars attained full power. And lots of engines exploded by keeping the "peddle to the mettle", killing too many. Scott Kallita was probably the final straw in 2008. That's when the rules were changed. One of my favorite drivers.
The reason I stopped watching NHRA was because of the "playoff" system. Haven't watched since.
@@ra5928 I actually made a huge mistake that still bothers me. I was at route 66 in Joliet Illinois and wanted to get Doug's autograph and my dumbass called him by his brothers name. This was after Scott died years earlier. I hadn't been to a race in a while, not that it's an excuse, I just had a major brain fart and didn't realize what I did till after I walked away. I can still remember the look on his face
@@matthewlewis9996 - I'm from the "way back" era of Connie Kallita. I remember when he and Shirley Muldowney were a thing. Connie Kallita really created a future for himself & his family with Kallita Air. Over 20 747's active at one time. Sad that Scott was killed. He was next in line to take over the reigns. I still remember that race to this day.
@@ra5928 my dad raced at US30 back in the day against Bob Gliden and Tom the mongoose McEwen. My dad ran a 64 dodge among a couple other's
Dude what a cool event to have cars of that caliber ! It’s like they are “affordable pro mods” lol
Thanks for watching George, yeah every year this Time Machine Nationals is a good time.
Your quotation marks are quite accurate
That Desoto is amazing! What a cool build...great video. Thanks for posting! 👍
Amazing times by these guys! I remember back to the days when Top Fuel was running low 6's. Amazing what they're doing with these engines now.😉
Early to mid 70s Right.
Tire technology in the 60s was horrible, the engine wasn't bsd
@@m42037 both can be true
I remember everyone holding their hand up saying “five” to the likes of the “Snake” and “Big Daddy” back in the 70’s.
Man that is one SICK DeSoto. Made an crazy fast pass. Well done to the team, driver and owner.
It was a good weekend, and that was an amazing pass.
Man that leaves hard. Wow.
Just a tad quicker than grandpa's DeSoto.
I love all these cars; the Super Bird (never seen one prepped as a drag car before), that Mercury, (I used to own one), and my favorite, the '59 DeSoto, (excellent body and paint work)! And they're all fast!
Don't you just love the variety of Pro Mod? New body styles, old body styles, can't beat it.
So much more fun to watch than Pro Stock.
Oh yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NHRA prostock yeah but IHRA Rostock runs all motor what some of these guys are running with blowers and nitrous
The Desoto is truly a thing of beauty
This 5 sec Desoto looks like the door slammer cars those manics in Australia drag race. I saw them on MAV TV; really fabulous!
Like Wow. These guys all building serious 200 mph cars out of anything and everything. the whole thing was just awesome.
I wouldn't have thought that car could hit 254 being dropped from a plane.... Damn. That Desoto is awesome looking.
Wow…Christine on steroids….it’s a beast…great look…well done sir.
What a rocket of a machine but has a body that only a mother could love. 💕
One of my favorite cars from the CWG.
That is actually a BRILLIANT body style. Note that it uses the 'natural' DeSoto rear fender wings to create the spill plates that one would normally see only on a funny car, where they create THOUSANDS of pounds of downforce! That body is the closest match yet to an AA/FC; and that downforce will probably make it a LOT safer on the big end.
Haha that’s true
Fins work as spill plates and wedge nose provides big downforce
Agreed! The designer on that beast did an epic job~
Can you imagine the "G" forces if you were driving that red beast? Wow that baby is fast!
Never seen an old school ride used as a drag car, pretty awesome
After watching a few Plaid videos, it's nice to see some fast cars.
😂💪
That’s worth a ‘Thumbs up,’. - Christine, Re-born. I love it!
That DeSoto looks just like the cars I used to draw when I was a kid, I'm in my 60;s now.
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was actually that rusty . . very creative.
Wonderful vid, cant sleep, got up , put you tube on, this in my recc, ha ha, result, I love that DeSoto, stunning., regards, UK
That's just an old version of a funny car back in the day.damn good run for sure. Sweet old Superbird and old couger, and sweet nova
Send him to the store for the ice to keep the beer cold.
Hi all if the Bad Dog makes you smile that’s great…thank you
Hi Chuck, thank you so much for building that car and bringing it out as much as you do. Everyone in the stands were just blown away when you did that first 5 second run that day, I know my son's eyes were wide open and jaw dropped, he couldn't believe it. He is a big fan of yours now and hasn't really stopped talking about it since then. ha ha, thanks again and can't wait to see you out there again. Tom
I am glad that they are still racing there. I have not been up there since the late eighties. We would stand right at the starting line & watch the jet cars take off & feel the heat & pressure from their take off.
Looked like a fun event Tom. Thanks!
Take that to your next local cruise in!
That thing is pure badassery. The Superbird is cool too.
*6:07** Green Plymouth burns rubber going 200 mph, very impressive.*
That’s One Bad 59’DeSoto Dragster
Sorry folks. Christine was a 1958 Plymouth Fury.
That Desoto is so freekin cool looking and fast as hell. Best looking car there. I used to help build Exhibition Cars. 10 liter Arais and 8.3 liter. 300 inch wheelbase and 120 inch funny cars. We were collapsing our fuel cell from too much power. I remember one day we bought 3 custom made crankshaft's it was $9000. Ran them once and then we got banned. $9000 down the drain. You can't sell them because no one wants them now lol.
That old DeSoto is no joke. He was smoking up the track. The Superbird wasn't on his game. I've seen it run MUCH faster than it did. Super great filming by Tom!!
Thanks Rick. Do you remember the fastest pass the Superbird did? I've only seen it do 1/8th mile passes before this race I filmed.
@@tomeighty Yes, the Superbird ran 5.67 before. He keeps it floored way beyond the finish line, even when the parachutes are deployed.
@@tomeighty i think that saturday it went 6.56
Now these are some fast cars
That's ment to look like a 58 Plymouth Fury, not a Desoto. But either way it's still a super badass car. Love the rusted effect on the body. Arnie would be proud lol
yea the side looks like the desoto, but the front grille looks nothing like it, it looks more like a fury
Chuck Weck has a firm grasp on his tune up.
Bring on the dry season in Northern Territory Australia drad racing season cheers from down under🇦🇺
Sure would like to see them give it a clean-up and paint job to such an attractive car.
To the DeSoto? The fresh built body with new paint... You'd like to see it painted again? Hahaha, what?
Wooha Christine has
been working out all these years.. nice
GORGEOUS color on that Cougar
Absolutely fantastic stuff. Thanks. I needed to see that badly. 😆😎👍👌✊✌✋👊
Thanks for watching buddy, glad you liked it 👍
I saw that body style almost 10yrs ago running in Australia by the Kapiris Bros. There's videos here on UA-cam. Thing was awesome even back then.
Thanks for sharing.. wish I could have made it for this one.. looked epic.
Chicago Wise Guys getting it done !
That Desoto body is killah 👊
Amazing machine, I love Drag Racings cars.
Thank you for posting this video .
Best country ever.
I have got to go to one of those vintage drags!
Jets are far more entertaining than Top Fuel is nowadays these guys deserve their own NHRA class the time has come
That is one Wicked DeSoto !
Thanks Tom for an awesome video
Thanks Phillip! I've always had fun at this Time Machine Nationals event. They have a little bit of everything there. And some super fast cars.
Gotta be interesting getting slowed down in time from 250 at gld. Thanks as always for the footage!
Reminds me of the good old days there early Funnies from 60s and 70s
Supercharged 1959 DeSoto, Rat - Rod! 5:78 @ 254 mph
That green superbird has been around forever, it was built back in the 90's and the first guy barely got it to work right, first issue was the big wing sucking the parachute back into it. Chip King is the (king!) of wing car pro mod with his daytona
Rip chuck weck I remember watching the 5.7 pass in person always looked forward to seeing that dog rip down the track
That's awesome. Sinister.
Would love to see a Chrysler Saratoga Pro Mod similar to the DeSoto
This is it. It's a '59 Saratoga, painted to look like a DeSoto.
Mopar heaven......indeed.
What an amazing line up of some really cool cars
SPECFRIGGINGTACULAR DESOTO!!!
Pretty sure the motor wasn’t stock. Don’t buy one thinking these cars are that fast without putting on a four barrel carburetor and thicker spark plug wires!
🤣🤣
THAT IS 1COOL CAR AND I LOVE THE GIANT BLOWER STICKING OUT OF THE HOOD!!!
3:56 That cougar looks menacing !
Fabulous.
tomeighty. Thanks for posting. Nice to see Cars with serious Horsepower getting it on.
I may have drooled a little
Thing that green Bird was Originally the Texas Big Bird ProM. I seen it at the Mopar Canadian Nationals year and years ago. Real crowd pleaser
There's more Desoto in my Mitsubishi Pajero than there is in that thing. Even so, it's fecking mental!!!
Those are some wicked pass 😊
Yeah, see a lot of gripes about it not actually being a DeSoto,to a degree, yeah, but so what. At least it's not another shoebox Chev,or Camaro. It's so good to see something different,a big up to that team now running the ex European Plymouth Superbird - more Mopars ! But,personally I'd rather see a DeSoto looking more like the real thing too,but it's still cool,we have a similar one running down here in New Zealand, and seeing them live, yeah,it gives you a better perspective. Big ups to these teams racing in this video, all the different makes of cars, better racing, and much more enjoyable than those NHRA teams with all their Camaros (just a personal comment folks), a good upload.
Love that Superbird
Jet cars are so cool to see in person!’
I still remember the Day John force was the 1st to break 300mph @ Gainsville raceway . I regret losing the newspaper I saved.
Great footage! Thanks!!
Right on cool man cool
I will take two of each please! Too bad i have to wake up to my realty. Thanks for my fix and dreams during these times.
'59 Plymouth front makes this a weird Mopar like the '59 UK/Canada DeSotos with the '59 Plymouth Batwing rear! 🚗
I was thinking the same thing~ Still badass all day
@@micahwhite7484 Hell yeah ! Makes Christine look like a little girl. 💥
The Cougar looks awesome
That Desoto would not only stomp on a generic Plaid, it sounds a heck of a lot better. It is a bit fugley though.
That blower sticking out the hood makes anything look pretty, you forget all about it when it cracks open that throttle! 💪
Christine, WOW👍
I would love to see this guy on street outlaws he scared the pants off all of them
Great Vid Mate.Cheers from Aus.✌🦘🍻🇭🇲
DeSoto, huh?
Looks like fiberglass to me, man.
