My son as a newborn napped best in a louder environment. He still can nap through anything. I think it was good for him to get used to not having black out curtains as well. We’re traveling a lot this summer and it’s very nice to have such an adaptable baby. With that being said every baby is so different and there are so many options, products, and resources to use to help better their sleep. I’m sure y’all will listen to your intuition and be amazing parents! 😊

co-sleeping has made our parenting journey sooo much easier! the sound machine has helped now that he's 1 + more interested and excited about what's going on! letting him nap everywhere + in loud places has made him the best sleeper!

Same!!! Baby sleeps so much better next to me, rather than having to get up idk how many times during the night to feed, hopefully baby falls asleep soon, put her in bassinet, then have her wake up quickly if not instantly & then repeat the whole process all through the night 🥲
"Sweet Sleep" is a great book that talks about what steps to take to ensure safety while co-sleeping with baby. 🙂

@angelavanoosten1 there's something called the safe sleep 7. It's guidelines for safe cosleeping including no blankets or pillows anywhere near baby or at all. Also tells you what position to lay in so you cannot roll over

We use a sound machine at night. During day naps we don’t and our daughter sleeps fine without it. She’s not the greatest sleeper but that’s just because that’s who she is, she goes off in the car, sling or pram without white noise fine at naptime. Congratulations you guys, so excited for this new stage in your life ❤

I know everyone uses white noise but if you’re trying to not be dependent on it, he’s probably going to need it eventually every time he sleeps so if you can, a little fan instead on the ground for some slight noise will really help and then using the white noise only if you really need to get through sleep regressions! That’s my experience with my baby bc I tried the same thing and lasted 2 months until I gave in and now it’s hard to transition him off. Not the absolute biggest deal in the world though if he gets hooked on it but thought I’d share! Such a cute nursery too and so happy for you guys!

Definitely recommend the adult diapers. At least for the first few days. You’ll eventually feel good with a regular overnight pad but at first, the adult diapers were my BFFs after my three deliveries. You can also get period panties, for when you switch to pads, if there’s any leakage those will keep the leak from passing to your clothes.

Hey Kian! So excited for this new chapter in y'alls life 💜 my husband & I just had our 1st baby May 8th. We had a home water birth, it was quite the experience!! For me the hardest part was the beginning just getting used to the contractions & finding a way to cope & work through them - at one point I did think "what if i can't do this, what if I need an epidural, how can i for hours & hours".. so if you ever feel that way, know it's completely normal!
With the support of my husband i was able to push through & it ended up being a wonderful experience!! A few things I think that are worth mentioning - what really helped me get in a flow with my mental state was when my husband put on UA-cam one of Bridget Teylor's (Built to Birth) birth affirmation video. That along with certain positions while swaying. For my first baby I was shocked I only labored for only 4 1/2 hours!! When the time came to where my body was wanting me to push, there wasn't anymore pain, not til transition 😅 by then we thankfully had made it to the tub. If you feel the ring of fire, I recommend you breathing in & out really quickly through those contractions, that will help give your body time to stretch (if i did not breath that way, my body would keep involuntarily pushing baby out which would make it burn sooo bad!!🫠)
Another big thing I'd like to mention, if you are planning on exclusively breastfeeding, it can be hard... I encourage you to push through & wait at least 2 weeks, trust me it will get better. If you get sore / cracked / any damage with your nipple(s), (a big thing that caused it for me was not positioning baby correctly for a good latch - I was told to hold baby like a sash, belly to belly & ever since that is my go to position for a great latch!) but you can look into nipple shields!! Not sure if they have them there in Hawaii, they are normally found at Walmart & Target for a reasonable price. They give your nipple(s) time to heal while still making baby work for the milk as they normally would when normally feeding. They were a game changer, only had to use them a few days on one side & didn't have to use them again. Also, for sore nipples, lansinoh nipple cream is a go to! Works great even if you need to jump in the shower. 🌸
For sleep, i recommend the book "Sweet Sleep", a book well worth reading to help with that part!
I hope this may help in any way possible for what is ahead, praying for an easy & quick labor & delivery for you. 🤗🌺

Sound machines are worth it. You can easily get a portable one for on the go but when they’re little they sleep everywhere anyways. The first few months you don’t need to have a strict sleep routine except for night times (dark, sound machine, sleep slack)
Just make sure the sound machine isn’t too loud!

Our baby is a pretty light sleeper, so the sound machine has been a life saver. It masks noises so she doesn’t get startled so easily. It really helped calm her down when she was a newborn as well, when she got colicky. She can sleep with or without it, but we usually use it for naps and then at night we start out with it and then fade it out after we’ve gotten into bed, so she sleeps most of the night without it.

Hi Kian! You can wash your baby blanket by hand using baby shampoo and cold water. Hot water will make it shrink. Lay it flat to air dry it. They say it's safest not to put blankets or pillows in the crib with the baby but to have the baby in a sleeper laying on his/her back. Your baby blanket would be nice to take to church with you and wrap the baby in it while you're holding him/her. You can also use it while carrying the baby around in a carrier. I wanted to add that you'll probably need enough pads for 6 or 7 periods because most women bleed after having a baby for about 6 weeks. I hope this helps.

In my experience newborns sleep anywhere but now that my baby is older I like to use the sound machine to signify “ok now it’s time to sleep” and also to help muffle any sudden noises that might wake him up! He can definitely sleep without it though 👍🏻 our baby monitor has a setting that makes womb sounds so that’s what we’ve always used!

As a professional nanny who has worked with many kids/families/preferences, I find that they are unnecessary, I found benefits to the child getting used to sleeping through the sounds of the household. I little unrelated thing I would recommend is clip on battery operated fans for stroller and car seat in warmer months.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the sound machine for my baby - I heard you can wean them off it after the first year, and that might be what I do if I even use it at all. My adult siblings literally cannot sleep if they don’t have a fan with them, which has made a lot of occasions incredibly annoying and inconvenient so I’m really on the fence about if I even want to start my baby out with a sound machine… But like I said, I’ve heard you can wean them off of it so idk. 🤷‍♀️ But my point is yeah some people really do become dependent on it which really sucks, I love that my husband and I can fall asleep anywhere with no noise at all.

I totally did this too. Eventually my baby just became so aware of things around him. The sound machine helps him get a good long rest. Without it he would hear random sounds and his naps would be cut short. I’m all for soothers, sound machines, black out curtains - anything that helps both of you get rest at home, which is where you are the majority of the time.

Oh no..1000% use a sound machine. It's a life saver when you dont want to worry about walking around the house too loud, dropping something, or dog barking and totally blowing naptime. They make portable ones, and the top rated portable one on Amazon (around $20) is really good and I use it as our main one. Another option we like is a box fan. I always felt safer having slightly moving air in baby's room especially when infant stage because they say that overheating and stagnant air can lead to/ be a contributing factor to sudden unexplained infant death. I don't worry about them becoming dependent on the white noise because it's available everywhere, even youtube videos for car naps. Praying for baby to come in perfect timing and safe and healthy ❤️

Yes, only use the sound machine when baby is cranky or irritable. Otherwise he won’t sleep in a quiet spot and you want it to be quiet for his brain to be able to rest. It’s a great tool for when they’re cranky or extra cranky to sooth. Mom of twin boys. 💙💙

Co sleeping had been a lifesaver! Since having her in bed with us at night, she has slept through the night since 6weeks. And we only use the white noise machine at night and had no issues with her sleeping for naps without it. Also don’t try to be too quiet when baby is sleeping, they’ll get used to the noise and be able to sleep through anything. Adaptable/non picky babies are definitely a good thing 😆 and I think you can train them to be that way for the most part.

Hey! So what we do is use the sound machine but also don't be quiet! Some days we have it on some days we don't! We also run the vacuum during nap time and don't make guests talk quiet while she's napping! They'll get used to napping in any environment! I'd say the worst thing to consistently do is always rock the baby to sleep so they can learn to self sooth. (Also, self soothing isn't the cry it out method)😊

I personally love the sound machine for my little guy. I completely get that it can be hard to have them sleep anywhere, but in my experience it has actually been more helpful. I have the hatch sound machine for going to bed and the I have the Frida baby portable sound machine for when we are out. I have found that having them used to the sound machine will help them sleep wherever you are because when they hear that sound they associate it with sleeping, so they fall asleep faster. I will also say that my son is a very easy child and he doesn’t really have much trouble sleeping even without it, so maybe my experience is just very specific. But I’ll find out soon enough since I’m currently pregnant with my second🤷‍♀️🥰 whatever y’all choose will be the right choice❤️

I grew up sleeping at family parties, with the vacuum going, family members laughing and talking at full volume - you name it- and it made life easier for my parents. Don’t be afraid to let your baby sleep in a noise environment, otherwise you’d have to be quiet around them whenever they nap and that’s not always possible. The hatch machine is also great for preventing any sudden noises from scaring the baby while they’re sleeping. I use it for my son but usually only at night since the house is quieter. I also let light in when he naps during the day and I think it’s helped him develop a sense of Day and night. My son can sleep through anything and it’s definitely ideal 😂❤
Also, I love how your hair looks with the claw clip!

  • @Lindseyhannah1995
    @Lindseyhannah1995 Рік тому

We use the sound machine at night only. The reason I like it is because (the way it was explained to me) it not only blocks outside noise, but it also mimicks what the baby is hearing in the womb right now, which is moms heartbeat and blood rushing etc, so it’s soothing the first few months. In order to wean our baby off, we only stop using it on naps, but each bed time we turn the volume down a notch or two for a couple days, then do it again each time they get used to the new volume level until it’s off. In other words, it is a lifesaver but doesn’t have to be addictive for the baby if you use it in moderation. We also nap on the go a lot and don’t use blackout curtains either and she’s always been fine.

Another helpful hint: baby sleep best on their belly so during the day put them on their belly while you’re there to watch them and monitor them and then at night while you’re sleeping you can put them on their back. We always put the babies on the belly and they sleep so much better because it pushes the gas out and they’re comforted more in that position. It’s really the worst ‘new rule’ for sleeping baby on their back.

Agreed!! That the was the #1 thing I learned as a FTM, belly sleeping is the best for them and they sleep much longer this way! Kian, if you are ever struggling one night and nothing works, try putting the baby on his belly! My babe has slept on her belly since she was born and has had great neck and head control because of it
