Got the Double vinyl album when it came out. My record shop guy kept joking "Are you sure you're ready?... All these years I'm still not.. This is so many light years ahead of its time. it's impossible to not feel this track over and over and over...
13 years on, still fresh and original, heard this first on Giles Petersons old Radio 1 show and went out and bought the album straight away. When I listen to James Blake and other modern electronic experimental artists- I can hear Spacek in their musical DNA
Still light years ahead of its time even today. lo fi, hi fi, electro, soul, strings, funk, mash up, classic song writing, melody, great vocals, emotion/sentiment, robots, space, the future, humanity, nature, I guess I'm just doing a big list to define what I can't define. This tune really stands up to having everything and I'm a Joni Mitchell fan. Thanks Steve and the boys whom I'm sure he could not have got this tune out without.
I came to this album by the most fortuitous route; a good friend who usually loved this type of music actually gave it to me as he couldn't get on with it. It became one of those albums that held a special place in my life as the soundtrack to many fantastic moments. It sounds as fresh today as it did then, and I'm not sure that anyone else did, or does, the same thing as Spacek. This is the soul of the future. If you haven't heard the Dilla remix of this song, go and do it now!
@raysubsonic Just saw Spacek's red bull interview where he says ''Eve'' came coincidentally from chopping up a sample saying ''believe'' and the lyrics are fictional
Written by Steve for his partner Eve. Don't know if the lyrics are biographical or not, maybe that ain't our biz. It's a beautiful, rapturous tune written by one of the masters of modern soul for the woman he Loves. Nuff' Respect .. And Yes .. It matches Dilla's Remix ..
