200+ pound guy here. I rotated 2 pairs of these the entire year to close to 1000 miles. I am in disbelief in how nice they both still feel, I bought a studded pair for winter here in Canada! They are the best shoe going downhill I have found! Thanks!!
Great review. My first pair of the 001 went for more than 1300 km's and they're still kicking around. On my second pair I had an delamination issue. I contacted norda and they've warrantied it and they're sending me a new pair of shoes. Amazing shoes. But what's even better is they stand behind their products which is so rare these days.
I have 3 pairs of the 001 and they are my favorite shoes for EVERYTHING. I wore them as a casual shoe, and then took them on a 8 mile run through my local hills in rain and mud. Amazing shoe. I also experienced a bit of delimitation in the upper, but nothing that has gotten worse over time. I do have a wider foot and it actually feels nice, I also did bump uo a half size like recommended. I am looking at getting a pair of the 002, or the 003 for kicking around.
Honestly these shoes are so sick and definitely bullet proof. I bought one pair and like them so much I bought another just so I could rotate. The first pair is still going strong with 1,500 KM running the trails of Squamish, BC (Terrain that's no joke). They are definitely expensive but for anyone who blows through shoes fast it actually ends up being way cheaper in the long run...They really check off all the boxes. I haven't even thought about another brand since making the sandwich to Norda.
100%! I just added my new pair into the rotation, but my original pair are >900km now and still so good. If you can get past the cash flow problem, they're a worthy investment for sure!
My favorite brands became my favorite brands mostly because of the way in which their customer services have dealt with issues regarding their products. I have very recently bought a pair of 001's and, for a week, they didn't left my desk because I was trying to justify coughing up 300 bucks for a pair of shoes. After trying them I can honestly say that they feel amazing in all sorts of ways and the fit is something I have never gotten from any other shoe. What's just as important as the quality and feel of the shoes are the reviews - specially about how they deal with their customers. It's very cool to see that they stand behind their promises and that, in your case, they promptly sent you a new pair.
100%! It feels good to give money to brands that are actually doing a good job. From the shoes to the service to their sustainability - Norda are killing the game.
"I hate this shoe... for not being on my feet earlier." Thank you chef. "Because if it had been I would have seen how awful it is..." Sorry chef. "... at being a bad shoe." Thank you chef?
120km into mine and I love them other than the fact the thin tongue and dynema laces seem to beat up the top of my foot.. especially the right one. Tried lacing them a few ways and will keep trying
Weird that it’s only one foot… stick with them though, I think it’s mostly the upper that really starts to loosen up after 150-200km. I’ve run two 100milers in them and they were perfect start to finish!
@@lukewbarrett happens to be the bigger of the two feet I think slightly more volume is why. I’m changing to more forgiving lacing and sticking with them because they’re so grippy, stable and comfy. Still have 10 weeks to decide on em!
25mm in the heal and 21mm in the forefoot is a pretty low to the ground right. My Lone Peak 7 is 25mm and after my 10mi trail run my feet hurt. I’m looking for something a little more but not something crazy like 40mm heal and 35mm forefoot
In this age of max cushion then I guess it’s somewhere in the middle. If you felt too much ground in the Lone Peaks then look for something bigger! Ultra running will always hurt somewhere, just gotta find something that manages the hurt the best. Good luck!
Thanks for the review. Some people mentioned it's a bit on the warm side. I wonder if that's an issue you noticed, as I would be using these in the sweltering heat of Hong Kong, mostly...
I’ve never felt like my feet were unreasonably hot in them at all. They don’t drain particularly well from full water submersions, which might indicate they also don’t breathe too well, just not something I’ve had an issue with.
Thank you Luke, nice review about, also like that the drop is right balance, not a massive chunky shoe. I kind of skeptic about size fitting, considering that here in Mexico there is no way to test how it fits in a Running Shoe Store. Normally I run with Newton which find perfect fit, this Newton compared with Nike, Newton is a little bit wider, and considering that the website for Norda recommends to go for half size up i will be worry to have extra room in the toe room and potential blisters for a sucha an expensie running shoe.
Cheers! I have no experience with newton, but 1/2 size up from Hoka fits me perfect. You could always scope out the returns policy before you purchase in case the size is wrong? Good luck!
@@rafaelmedina604 FWIW, I wear the same size in Newtons as I do in the Norda 001. As an aside, I tried the 002 but they ran a little short compared to the 001's. I love my 001's; with miles, they actually feel better than when brand new. Good luck.
@@joeg4487 thank you so much for the insight, It will be very helpful for me. I am just wait for new colors considering that lemon/white is no longer available and black seems the bored choice
I am also a fanboy - wonderful shoes that whilst expensive, you probably would have blown through one and a half pairs of Hokas in the same distance. So really…in terms of value, they are not at all out of line. Now you’ve got to get your hands on the 002s. I have both, and there is one that I prefer more than the other (whilst I love both). I’d be curious to get your take. Great video as always.
Thanks mate! 100% the value comes in their durability. Hokas weren’t lasting much more than 250km for me recently. Not sure I’ll invest in the 002’s just yet. Got a brand new pair of 001’s to get though! No doubt the 002’s are equally exceptional too though.
For people that have this shoe how well do these shoes do when wet/in rain? Are they water resistant or dry quickly? Are these comfortable enough for all day walking or day hikes? I was looking at these as a travel shoe for walking all day on sidewalks, cobble stone, the occasional day hike, etc, but wasn’t sure if these would work or I should look for a different kind of shoe?
The Dyneema upper is a fairly tight weave, which seems to keep light moisture out quite well. Once completely wet on the inside they don’t dry that well though. I’ve worn the 001’s casually and absolutely loved them for walking and general day-to-day use.
Hey man! Great question. It was consistently wet for GPT so never a great opportunity for things to dry out. I think there probably are better draining shoes than these, but I’d wear them again in the same conditions. Drymax socks have always been the difference in the wet for me.
One thing I sometimes hate about the norda 001 is that they make the experience in other shoes completely disappointing. With the exception of the trabuco max 2 and 3, because of the grip, everything else (including the speedgoats, mafate 4, nnormal tomir, peregrine 13 + xodus + endorphin rift, salomon´s glide max tr, TNF Summit Vectiv Pro, NB´s Trail More V3, etc, etc) seems disappointing. And I love trying trail running shoes. Or rather, I used to love it until I discovered these tanks. I'm already on my second pair and I still haven't worn out the first pair, which must have already passed 600kms for sure. In fact, not only are they the best trail running shoes by far, they are also drop-dead gorgeous. My second pair, which is the original color created for the Norda´s 001 (black and white), is only used to go to work or go out. I am love with these.
This is the best! Sounds like you’ve tried all of the shoes too. Both my 001’s are >1000km now. I’m currently coveting new pair only so I can add them back into the casual rotation too 😂😂.
I’ve tried the kjerag on, but not run in it. Norda definitely more room in the toe box. I ran in Hokas before this and it’s like a refined combination of the Tecton X and speedgoat, with far superior durability.
@@lukewbarrett with Kjerag (42 and Tomir) I went half size down to match the size to my Salomon shoes (42 2/3). And if I remember correctly I also used 42 2/3 with my Speedgoat 2’s (which were too soft for my feet)
@@lukewbarrett and I’ve got 700+km in my Kjerag now and a second pair waiting for the spring. But I need a second pair of shoes in my rotation as I’m tired of Salomon shoes and haven’t really found a Hoka that I like. But the Norda is a expensive shoe to just try out.
I sized up 1/2 a US size for my Nordas (as they recommend) and they fit perfectly. The 001’s are firmer than speedgoats and more room in the toebox. I found them a more secure fit around the ankle than most hokas too. The upper tends to take about 150km to break in and feel supple, but no issues during the break in period. Maybe there’s a shop that stocks Norda near you where you could try them on?
I regularly have 2-3km of road on my trail runs. Still plenty of depth in the lugs left. They actually run quite well on road despite the rather aggressive lug pattern. Hope that helps!
Haha love the shoey! Great review Luke. Do you have wide feet? I’m wondering if the shoe will still work for those with narrow feet. I guess you used to wear Hokas right and they aren’t particularly wide shoes…
I bought 2 pairs of these. First in half size up as recommended, which ended up being too wide. I had to cinch the laces down so tight to get a decent lockdown that I ended up with insertional achilles tendonitis from the back of the shoe pressing too hard and rubbing against my heel during a really long, steep scramble. Then I bought a pair in my regular size. The lockdown was much better but my toes ended up hitting the front of the shoe on downhills, and my slightly wider right foot could feel the edge of the insole digging into the bottom of my mid foot. Really wanted to love them but my feet simply aren't the right shape for them :(
