We are passionate adventurers with a shared love for the open road, the thrill of exploration, and the beauty of the landscape. Living in coastal Virginia, we embrace the freedom of travel, often purposefully seeking to venture off the beaten path. Our journey, aptly named Asphalt Odyssey, is a testament to our wanderlust and our desire to experience the world from the comfort of our trusty vehicles: a Toyota 4Runner and a Can-Am Spyder RT.
Having traveled extensively across the United States, from the corners of our great nation to the heart of Québec Province in Canada, our adventures are defined by a spirit of curiosity. We prioritize the road less traveled, seeking out National Parks, wide open spaces, and hidden gems. As empty nesters, we embrace this new phase of life by turning our attention to the open road and all the possibilities it brings. Our motto, “All roads lead to another road,” perfectly encapsulates this approach to life and travel-one of discovery, challenges, and memories. For us, the journey is just as important as the destination, and we cherish every mile we travel together and the human connections we make along the way.
Through our Asphalt Odyssey videos, we hope to share not only our adventures, but also our philosophy of celebrating the freedom to explore, the joy of being present in the moment, and the beauty of our world. Our journey is about more than just the miles driven; it’s about finding the extraordinary in the everyday, discovering new perspectives with every new road we take and connecting with other adventure-minded travelers.
Thank you for watching. We invite you to continue the conversation through posting comments here as well as communicating via AsphaltOdyssey@gmail.com

Hi John& Miriam so glad to see you back on the Spyder! Wow great weather for a ride, right now it's February 8th and -15C so I will be staying inside awhile yet. I too love to travel but with all the upheaval with your new President I have decided to homestay my vacation this year. I am a total believer in the fact that
"TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO DIE", not that I want it to be over but I believe I have lived this life quite well and to it;s fullest. OOOOOH, I do have small regrets but that's not what life is about, It's about what make you happy and brings a smile on your face. You GOTTA just go for it!!!! Stay Well Stay Safe and Keep Three wheels Down

I hope the passport is renewed on time. It sounds hopeful.
Also, I appreciated the hotel advice.
This was a very thought provoking video, one I needed to hear.
My dad was on hospice until he broke his hip last week. He needed surgery and is at home recovering with in home visits. He will be going to to hospice. I wish he would have taken the trip he wanted when he was diagnosed. It wasn't advised. He has lived a year beyond what they thought but is now too weak to enjoy travel much.
I can't imagine the absence of him but when he is done here I want to go visit the area he speaks about. I will answer your question in an edit. (Needed atm)

So sorry to hear about your dad and sending love❤. It’s so hard to watch a loved one’s health decline. But what a lovely thought for you to honor him by pursuing the travel that was important to him.

@miriambryant1896 He wanted to go up in Maine and into Quebec where he visited his grandmother. I haven't been to the New England States. I've been to Toronto but not Quebec. He says I have to go in the summertime. ☀️ I wish he could have shown me himself but I hope to go and will do my best.

The best tidbit of information I learned in this video is the 2023 legislation that now allows video recording in National Parks. I didn't know that before watching this video. Now, I'm looking forward to putting my lifetime National Park Pass to good use, good stuff John 😁👍

This was a great thought provoking video. I myself have done lots in my 68 years on this earth. I have traveled for work north and south. My wife now travel all around our area here in northern BC we have traveled south to thaw out in the winter. I have very few regrets in my life. If I had to go today to meet my maker it would be all good. I would miss some people, But we have no choice when the time comes. Enjoy your day

Very good info about travel and just life lessons itself. I'm not too much of an adventurer but I'm getting back into stuff as far as hobbies go. Getting back into......
    1. Bass Fishing
    2. Woodworking
    3. Playing my guitar. (PLAYING, not singing. If I sang, I would make eardrums bleed.)
So, I'm doing the things being retired I either didn't have time for or lost interest in over the years, that is my adventure.

When I retired in 2019, I couldn't wait to do all those things that you'd never have the time to do because life was too busy. Then you wake up and ask yourself, well what are those things that you really want to do? Well, it turns out that what you wanted to do in your 20's and 30's doesn't really appeal to you in your 50's and now 60's. So, now what? Well, my late father had a saying late in his life, "Il faut enjoyé!", meaning no matter what you do, enjoy it, enjoy the moment, enjoy the adventure and enjoy the journey for one day you know not, it will end. Adventure for me took on a whole new meaning when I purchased my Spyder in 2022 and now the possibilities of adventure have grown exponentially. New places to see, new way to travel to old places, new people to meet, new friends made. And my passport was due for renewal in March; took care of that in January so, saddle up!😊 Let's go spring, hurry up so I can get my Spyder out of winter hibernation!

I am fond of the poem by Baudelaire “Enivrez-vous.” Meaning immerse yourself in life… “get drunk” on wine, poetry or virtue. Squeeze every ounce out of it! Wishing you an early spring!

Very interesting facts John great video. Yes when staying at any hotel best to keep the hotel key card and not turn it in as correct all your information is on the card. I never use a hotel safe for the same reason as that safe information is held somewhere in the hotel So here is something we discovered last year. My nephews and I went to Wisconsin to a Super Bike Rack. On the way back we stopped at the same hotel and booked a room as it was getting dark. We checked in had two door keys and proceeded to the room. My nephew put the key in the door in the room were secured and went in. There were women's shoes on the floor, food on the table, and a travel bag. All of a sudden a women came out of the bathroom with a towel over her. She was in our room She was screaming and we were like lets get out of here. So as it turns out there were multiple keys to that same room She rented it in the afternoon before we booked the room in the evening. How can there be multiple keys for the same room? That is a concern, and this was at a popular hotel rather new hotel. Again hotel rooms not as safe as everyone thinks. In Fl I had a room that I found a hidden camera in it that was in the vent. Only reason I discovered the camera as I saw a red light in the vent. when I was watching TV at night. I got up and looked and noticed the light went out when I went on the floor to look at it. I opened the panel and sure enough there as a small mini cameras inside. Well I packed up my stuff called the police and they arrested the clerk

I owned a scuba business that required many, many long hours and seven-day weeks, but it involved taking divers all over the world to experience our incredible underwater world. Time and again, I had wealthy customers tell me that I had the greatest job in the world. And I couldn't disagree. Planning now for our trip to the Philippines. The adventure continues!

Thanks for teaching me how to break into a hotel room door LOL. We do not use the safes at all. We do not get room cleaning at all. And then I even doubled double-checked the mirrors and and look for cameras and check the toilet for cameras. And Amelia sometimes likes to get under the bed. So now we search under the bed for bodies and stuff lol. My question is are you guys concerned about your tires at all? Having to go all the way through Canada or do you have new tires? Do you have places in case you have to have service? I'm sure she can get her passport expedited. And don't you guys have the little tiny cards that you can carry too that get you into Canada and Mexico?
