- Isao Okano is retired judoka who competed in -80 kg category. He is Olympic and World champion. He also won All-Japan Judo Championship in openweight to this day he and Shinobu Sekine remain the lightest ever competitors to win this championship. Okano is inspiration to many modern day judoka, his Judo was ahead of his time incorporating physical yet highly skillful throwing techniques and ground game rarely seen in his time.

What a great fighter, in my youth had the privilege to train with him and Sekine. Okano had an incredible fighting spirit.
Broke one of his legs 5 times... And the other one 6 times ! Absolute madlad. One of the greatest judokas to this day.
Yes the only one that compares is Jim bregman
One of the things I am most proud of in my life is having Judo taught by the great Okano Sensei.

柔道の３大ビッグタイトルは、五輪、世界選手権、全日本選手権での優勝だと言われています。そのすべてで優勝した選手は現在まで8人しかいません。そのうち７人は重量クラスの選手ですが、この岡野選手だけが唯一中量クラスの選手として成し遂げています。
縦四方固かけそこなって、逆に縦四方固掛けられたのに、それを腰のバネでまた縦四方固でかえして勝利するなんて凄すぎる。柔道の真髄を魅せてもらました。
Okano books are awesome even Gracie back in the day steal teachniques from them and ofc never gave credits.

Awesome video! We had okano sensei visit our dojo and put on a clinic. His seoi nage is different from the traditional throw. Also one of our judoka was uke for him and he said his throw is really powerful, this was about 3 or 4 years ago.
