- Joe Rogan and John Dudley discuss who would win in a fight to the death, a Silverback Gorilla or a Grizzly Bear.
Taken from Joe Rogan Experience #934 - Комедії
This conversation starts when you're about 8 years old and it's still just as relevant when you're in your 40s
People fail to grasp the significance of this. They foolishly think you outgrow this sort of thing.
You sir are 100% correct I'm 40 my brother is 44 and we still argue about batman vs superman it started with me in tears at 6 lol
These can be fun conversations but when the person gets to passionate it just becomes stupid at that point. Like those heated debates of Goku vs.Superman it’s like guys they have writers at anytime they could write either of them getting owned by a toddler.
It’s conversations like this that taught me polar bears don’t eat vegetables and as soon as he said it I was like “of course. It’s all Ice and fish up there”
Justin Heape
You thought Superman would win that fight, didn’t you? 🤣 Not a chance.
In an alternate universe a silver back is on a podcast with a grizzly and they’re talking about who would win joe rogan or chuck Norris
Depends on the year. 2020, it’s Joe all the way. Pre-2009, Chuck for sure.
Gorilla: "Cause, when you think about it, Rogan is essentially just a big dog."
Grizzly: "Why would you call Joe a dog?"
@@andrewp5732 My $$$ is on Chuck's 60 yrs of training/experience. First 10 seconds, Chuck blows out Joe's knee w/ a kick. Followed by a feint to the other knee, that's the set up for a spinning back kick to the head. This is worse than the Silverback vs Bear.
Joe Rogan, no question. Chuck didn’t pick up grappling until later in his life so either joe is fighting an 80 year old man, or a young man with no ground game.

I'm high, so I'll try this... Grizzly bear kills a gorilla any day of the week unless it's already injured or starving. Grizzlies can rip fucking TREES OPEN.
I'd pay to watch a cage fight between a silverback and a grizzly. I'd put my $$$ on the bear though.
As for the cat... well... pound for pound... I think cats are probably the most powerful animal on the planet... right behind the weasel family.

@@Ninjametal Batman beats Superman

That would be a cool ass fight to watch. Bigfoot vs Grizzly.
I just saw a video where they compared the two; bear wins like 95% of the time.
It’s not just that bears are noteably bigger, stronger and with a more powerful bite. It’s fighting style and muscle type.
We prime apes have a more structured fixed in place muscle system. While bears , cats and most predators have a looser more slideable system. So a good slash to us will cut us open while for a cat or bear the skin will slide and absorb most of a blow leaving a shallow gash.
But the big bear advantage is fighting style. Gorillas got nothing more than a slap punch and biting. Neither would be devastating to a bear. However the bear has a bite and claws that will rip a gorilla open.
Uh the bear is weaker and less bite force
@@justingamroth9396 ok budy
@@oskain from a technical standpoint...hes not wrong. Gorillas can lift up to 1800ibs of dead weight (crazy to think about) and BARELY has a stronger bite force. But of course I dont think that would really factor into the fight seeing as the Gorilla is going against a literal monster lol
I mean are you discounting the mobility and strength and intelligence of a gorilla a little bit? You think a bear wont care about the punch and bite force of a gorilla? Think again, gorillas can box and if they grab you you are getting chokeslamed or slammed upside down to break your neck. Id say gorilla vs grizzly depends on circumstances most of the time.
@@justingamroth9396they rival each other noob, and the silver back literally loses to a leopard, Google it.
This isn’t even a debate, the Bear wins 100% of the time. Gorillas literally get hunted by Leopards, just imagine what a Grizzly would do to it
Leopards will only take young gorillas. They won't mess with full grown adults.
@@JDMorris81they do
Leopards do not hunt Silverback Gorrilas. In this video it was about the Silverback. A young gorilla can be prey for many other predators, just like any young animal.
Crocs mes with full grown gorillas and it's facts look it up it's true you never see one fight a croc on water on ground.
A Silverback gorilla can lift 4000 pounds . And is 10 times stronger than a human .
Grizzly bear lift about 1200 pounds . 3- 6 times stronger than a human.
Joe is forgetting that if the gorilla was on dmt it would reach the 7th dimension and win by shear intelligence

"You'll do nootin"
"Jamie, bring up that clip of the gorilla getting mauled by bears flying biplanes."
Couple comments: 1) brown bears and grizzly bears are the same species. The brown bears are just larger I think because of the diet (more fish and meats near the coasts vs more berries inland)
2) gorillas live in harems of one male to like five females. The reason for the imbalance is because of fighting for mating rights among the males. So gorillas absolutely do fight.
3) I think acceleration/agility is more relevant than top speed in a fight.
4) I’d probably still take the grizzly in 5
Yes they are the same species, idk why everyone thinks they're different. Like what, do ppl think there's like a magical line between the coastal brown bear area and the inland grizzly bear area? And what do the brown bears and grizzlies say "okay we won't breed with each other passed this point between coastal and inland?" 🤣🤣🤣??? It's all location, just the more inland brown bears are called "grizzly" and the more coastal/Alaskan brown are called "brown bears" for whatever reason. All the same bears but the more coastal you go the bigger they usually are. So how close to the coast/ how much bigger does the bear have to be to be considered "brown" and not "grizzly." Then there is the brown bears that are trapped on Kodiak island and are called "Kodiak bears" because they live on Kodiak island. Again it's the same bear but in a very food abundant location, and very isolated from anything that could be a threat, which is the reason they've prolly gotten so much larger than other brown bears. I guess I really don't understand the difference between any of these bears cuz there's really no line to draw that sets them apart. So since the brown bears that live in Alaska close to the coast are called "brown bears" and the brown bears that live inland are called "grizzlies" what are the brown bears that live between these two called, Brizzly bears maybe? And at what point is it a Brizzly and not a brown or grizzly? Is there some magical line in between that doesn't allow them to breed with each other? And yes I agree the bear would beat the gorilla 100% of the time
Grizzly bears are a type of brown bear. There are brown bears that are not grizzlies.
As to point two, gorillas fight each other. But it is more show-fighting than anything else, they don't typically fight to kill.

Bear is a death machine.
I'm going with the Grizzly on this one! Every video I've seen of Silverbacks fighting, their movements are awkward, stiff, and lack a certain dexterity that's needed to take control in a fight. With a grizzly however, the fight looks absolutely terrifying, majestic, and technical all the same. If I didn't know otherwise, I would have thought that bears have taken Martial Arts training at some point in their life. They employ techniques from Judo, BJJ, and Olympic Wrestling in order to grapple, pin, and control their opponent. Not to mention their bite and claws. A gorilla seems to want to hit you one time and then storm off. A grizzly seems to enjoy a good fight, and won't leave until it has successfully enforced its will upon you. And then there's the size. Sorry Donkey Kong, but Banjo is murdering you.
How many times have you watched kungfu panda?
Now you know why khabib wrestled with a bear and not a gorilla
Yes gorillas cant throw a punch to save their life
And I do mean that literally in this case
Bears storm in for the legs
Swipe at the belly
And gnaw at the nape of the becks with the type of aggression that is beeded to win fights
But a small bla bear and a chimpanzee is much more of an interesting fight

Ah, the bear vs. gorilla problem. An age-old dilemma within the bro science community.
What about a crocodile with a jetpack vs a shark with a rocket booster ?
It’s more like a lion vs a bear
@@TheRealChrisBeard A lion will get shredded in no time, bears are way heavier and stronger its like fighting a child for them
True, but a lion I feel like it would be more agile, besides having sharper claws. If the lion gets a good opening at the neck is game over. Even more if it's a tiger since they are basically the biggest and strongest felines in the world.
@@unfortunately010 Gorilla is more interesting though as an opponent to a bear, in my opinion, because the bear clearly has size and strength on his side, but the gorilla can grab and is much more intelligent.
Whereas with a Lion or Tiger, at the end of the day it's claws vs. claws and bite vs. bite; with the cat being a little more agile, but the bear being way stronger, heavier, and more resilient. I'm pretty sure one or two well-aimed paw strikes from a bear would crack a lion's head like a walnut.
Which one would you prefer a Slap from Grizzly Bear or a Gorilla? 🤣 (I'll take a Gorilla slap all day)😅
Gorilla is super strong but the bear is just a unstoppable force. Gorillas have strenght, grip and a slightly stronger bite. But the bear is more than twice as heavy, has even more strenght and those claws just make a huge difference. Even though gorillas can bite harder they would barely get trough the thick bear coat. It's like biting into lion manes.
Yall are getting the fights wrong. Obviously the bear will win in a punching contest, but gorillas are way more agile and has dexterety. A silver back will dodge the first punch, jump above the bear, land on it’s back and do a massive chokehold while grappling the bear. Havent you seen the 2005 king kong?
@@TheBoblefunI was reading through your comment and about to mention king Kong lol those are movies and in real life they stand no chance against the top predator. A bear is unstoppable and will have it on the ground before it knows what's happening
As much as I'm a fan of silverbacks, the bear hands down is the superior in terms of battle. Without the claws it's a debate but they are a huge advantage to the bear.

The problem with this discussion is that they haven’t even mentioned the fact that gorillas will bleed profusely from a bear claw. I don’t think people understand that the gorilla wouldn’t really last more than a minute with a grizzly, unless it ran around a lot. Grizzly shreds the silverback in under 2 minutes.
i think the gorilla would have the edge in striking, not necessarily more power but more coordination, but the gorilla is fucked if he hasnt worked on his takedown defence well enough then the bear can take him to the ground and dominate.
bear is way better at jujitsu and are known in the animal kingdom for their awesome hip tosses and ability to dominate in side control and bypass guards on the ground. id give it to the bear in round 3 by submision or TKO.
but who knows, if steve mazzagatti is referee then anything could happen.
Bear in the first round by shredded face lol
If you ever seen the true strength of a girzzly in person, no way a gorilla could even hurt a grizzly. The skull if a gizzly is so thick most calliber bullets cannot even crack it let alone pierce it. Grizzlies can kill 12-1300 pound moose with one blow sometimes, and they are no docile animal themselves. Seriously having seen both. A silver back makes a man look like a infant, but a grizzly bear has super hero level strength. You seriously cannot measure that level of insane strong. It is clear if you watch a grizzly bear up close, those claws can take down full trees with a hit....
The Journey grizzly bears can bring down trees just by scratching their backs on em
The bear is a 1000 pound killing machine. A silverback is a 500 pound herbivore.
the best part of this is that it's true.
Big grizzlies are bigger, heavier, faster, stronger AND have experience and some skill at killing other animals, when required. Their claws are better weapons too. Gorillas generally do not kill to survive, their strength and aggression is used to establish or maintain social hierarchy. Grizzlies also keep coming, even after sustaining serious wounds like gunshot too, there's documentation of that.

Here’s the thing. The Grizzly is a predator, and the gorilla is a herbivore. Experience here matters greatly, even at equal weights a full grown experienced carnivore that kills for a living is going to beat a herbivore. The predator is designed to attack, kill and eat meat. Sorry, I love gorillas, but they lose to predators of equal size. Gorillas fighting for mating rites or territory is just two huge beast that are trying to dominate the other, not a life or death fight. Grizzlies are like the old Mike Tyson, they want to beat your ass, kill you and eat your babies, except Grizzlies really do this.

Polar bear destroys a grizzly
@@Taharqo.saved.the.Hebrew
A study from 2015 looked at interactions between grizzly and polar bears. Historically, grizzly and polar bear territories haven’t overlapped. However, with changing climates extending grizzly ranges north, the two species are increasingly encountering one another. Especially along Alaska’s north coast, events like beached whales create environments where the two bears will compete for very large meals.
Here’s a sample directly from the study.
Our results indicate that grizzly bears are socially dominant during interspecific competition with polar bears for marine mammal carcasses during "autumn." Journal of Mammalogy, 24 November 2015
Put more bluntly, when polar bears and grizzly bears are both competing for food, its the polar bears that are more likely to walk away from conflict and leave the prize for grizzly bears.
The bottom line: in a fight between a polar bear and grizzly bear, the grizzly bear reigns supreme.
@@viper2148 not more simply put in reality though because we haven't seen them duke it out before. It would be a dead silverback
This guy has no clue. Joe is right. This is no contest. As awesome and strong as a gorilla is, a grizzly bear is 10 times as strong. The bear is five times the size and will literally destroy a silverback gorilla.
If you’ve seen footage of 2 grizzlies fighting, you know a gorilla wouldn’t stand a chance. The hide and fur of a grizzly is too thick for a gorilla to effectively bite, and the grizzly’s weight advantage, 2-3 times the weight of a gorilla, would negate the gorilla’s strength. Plus the advantage of the grizzly’s claws…the fight would be one-sided
A grizzly is not 2-3x the size of a large gorilla.
Griz are def heavier on average, but big gorillas are well over 400lbs and can lift over 4000lbs. Gorillas also have more bite force and accelerate faster.
Add on that grizzly claws are nowhere near as sharp as people are saying and I think it'd be more competetive than people realize.

@@EzekielDBarrett Bruh Grizzlies can get up to 1150lbs which is almost 3x the size of the average silverback. And we aren’t even talking about Kodiak bears who could get up to 1500lbs. Also a gorilla has never been shown to display that amount of strength, it’s all just theoretical. They’re definitely strong but Gorillas have never even shown to lift half of that number. Not to mention, Gorillas arms aren’t their main offense in a fight, and it’s not like they know how to punch. Their main offense is their bite which is slightly stronger than a bear’s but they could handle that since they take bites similar to those regularly from other adult grizzlies for mating or territory. Also brown bears have the strongest forelimbs of any predator, which is why they have humps on their backs. If you’ve seen some bear fighting videos, you’ll see just how well-versed with wrestling they are, that it’s kinda scary. They just pin the other bears of similar size(slightly smaller) like it’s noting. And they’re surprisingly fast. Grizzlies/Brown Bears have literally decapitated fully grown Moose. There is no way on God's green earth a Silverback Gorilla walks away the winner in a fight between the two. Silverback - 400~450lbs, Brown bear - +1500lbs. So many people on here keep saying dumb stuff like "the gorilla might have a strength advantage." They aren't stronger than a brown bear. They look strong because there's less fur and so the muscles are more defined. But it's not like a bear is weak! They're some of the strongest land creatures in existence and they have PLENTY of muscle. There is no contest.
The gorilla's skin is its weakness. Relative to other animals that big, its skin gets ripped pretty easily. They get preyed on by leopards ffs.
Exactly these people in these comments are kinda dumb
I just did a little research. It has been documented that a Silverback gorilla can not even win a fight with a leopard (most of the time) so a Grizzly would undoubtedly own a gorilla.
damn really? i thought a leopard was weak
@@NavoTheTrueGod Leopards are pretty strong. They can carry antelopes that weigh 90lbs up a tree casually. But their bite force is a lot lower than a Silverback Gorilla’s. Though most of their kills against Gorillas are via ambush, it’s still impressive. So a Grizzly or Kodiak Bear would make light work of a Silverback.
@@NavoTheTrueGod Leopards are monsters, they kill gorillas even at a huge weight disadvantage.
Large male Leopards get lone juvenile and senior gorillas occasionally. And the adult gorillas are shy and peaceful so we think they don’t retaliate. Also a leopard is more densely muscled and more endurance than a large bear. A silver back male gorilla has incredible endurance cuz of its upright lungs and it has killer force strength if for whatever reason he is enraged and actually wants to fight a bear (which is a forager more than a killer) the gorilla could make light work of even a polar bear
@@voiceofreason2674 This is absolutely wrong. Leopards have been known to kill adult Gorillas aswell, including Silverbacks. This is well documented. And a Leopard isn't even close to being as strong as a Grizzly so it's pointless to bring up the dense muscles crap. And they absolutely do not have better endurance. Big cats in general have weak staminas which is why their successful hunt rates are so low. Grizzlies have run miles on land and in water to catch prey. And Silverbacks rely on intimidation than anything, nor to they have the instinct to kill. They're are also poor fighters compared to Grizzlies and they only flail their arms at opponents. Grizzlies are so much bigger, faster, far more durable with claws that would shred a Gorilla with ease. Grizzly wins 10/10. King Kong has spoiled yall on how Gorillas behave.

Not only that but Grizzlies have been know to kill animals as massive as a Moose. While Gorillas have been know to be killed by Leopards. Grizzly take this fight no issues.
Grizzlies have also been known to be killed by wolverines something that has no right being able to kill one, yet it happens. Maybe it’s Rock Paper Scissors and gorilla beats wolverine beats bear which beats gorilla.
I’m just pointing out that power isn’t everything and wolverines show it
It doesn’t matter, even if a gorilla is only 200 lbs it can lift ten times its own weight which is 2000 lbs
Still watching this years later, I truly believe the gorilla would win, if the strongest human fighter punched a grizzly in its face, like the nose, the bear would feel some pain and would then attack the person, if they didn’t already, but then imagine as many times stronger a gorilla is, pummeling the bear in the same way, the bears facial structure simply isn’t made to fight animals like that, gorillas throw down with other gorillas all the time, their hands are trained and they’re ready to fight all the time, bears tend to wrestle, and bite, they don’t kill animals that are too big when they’re eating, so they’re conditioned to eating smaller animals
You are factually incorrect in the sense that a bear has one of the strongest jaws and skulls in existence. Their bone structure is extremely dense on top of its massive size. You are talking a skull that a 7.62mm round will just bounce off of in most cases. Yeah I feel sure if a gorilla got a solid face punch in it would hurt like hell, but pain is hardly going to factor into something like this. I would be really curious to see if a gorilla could wretch the neck of a bear enough to break it. That's a far weaker point than the skull in this case
Oh nooo...if you're above 10 that's kinda concerning that you still haven't found help yet. Fundamentally flawed logic and just plain braindead thought process.
Understand that a fully grown grizzly can hold the "strongest puncher" like you said down with one hand on his chest not that it'd need the weight of entire hand to do that, it simply has that much strength. If it puts its weight on you and decides to cut your guts open you're not escaping that.
I know they're just mucking around. But this is a perfect example on how to have a conversation about something where you both have different opinions without it turning into an argument
There is no different opinion here unfortunately tho. A grizzly will literally always fucking murder a silverback. It’s more of a mismatch than a feather weight vs a super heavy weight. There are no tools the gorilla has that can injure a grizzly bear. This is a funny conversation but let’s not pretend like there are other answers here.

It might have taken a long time, but you should be grateful that the bear felt bad enough to come back and sort out the mess it had made, that's very unusual behaviour for a bear.
Her is my theory, I think a gorilla world have an advantage over the bear due to its ability to grab, but 1 swing of a bear with its huge 3 inch claws would immobilize a gorilla, or make it think twice on approaching the best the 2nd time to get gutting by another swing. A bear is used to force on force combat and uses its teeth and claws during those altercations, but the gorilla wouldn't know what to do after getting clawed.

I've been thinking about this. I just watched a Gorilla rag doll a Lion. The Loin didn't have the core strength to hold the Gorilla. Gorilla has tremendous strength and it uses his running core momentum to strike up with palm down fists. The Grizzly Bear might just rip the head off the Gorilla. It has that kind of power. The Bear weights 3-4x what a Gorilla weighs.
No you didn't. Gorillas and lions live in different places, and also if 'you saw the gorilla rag doll the lion in the zoo !', then that's definitely a lie because different animals are not kept in the same enclosure. Lions and gorillas are kept in completely different enclosures, because if they were kept on the same enclosure, then the lion would have probably killed all of the gorillas and would have ate them. I do not want to hear you. Gorillas get clapped by leopards so what makes you think a lion can't kill a gorilla.
Yeah, no. To be honest, this fight is so not fair. It has more weaponry + their weaponry is more advanced, it has the weight advantage + a lion is tankier so it can take in and absorb some of the deadliest attacks and has a much thicker hide + a lion's whack is harder than that of a gorilla's. On top of that, it is faster and more agile, and it has a deadlier mentality. Gorillas aren't built to fight felines the same way they are built to fight each other. To be honest, it's common sense. People mistake modern-day gorillas for King Kong, and sadly, that isn't true well, for me it isn't sad, (I'm actually happy a lion would win against a gorilla because personally, I find gorillas ugly, and I just hate apes and primates so it's a win-win for me really ). A real Gorilla eats bamboo, grass, fruits, and insects. A lion EATS meat (prey) AFTER HUNTING & KILLING IT DAILY. Do you even understand the mental difference and the huge chasm that exist between these 2 animals? Also, any attempt by the gorilla to grab the lion would be met with a fierce and deadly blow. Also, I did the research and Nat Geo Wild actually said they made a mistake in measuring the bite force of a lion, and rather than measuring the bite force of a fully grown lion, they measured the bite force of a juvenile lion which is 650 PSI. They then measured the actual bite force of a FULLY-GROWN lion and Nat Geo Wild said that lions can produce a powerful bite force of up to 1000PSI. So you should have done your research before coming up with conclusions with no logical explanations behind them. It is common sense that lions can tank up and take more brutal injuries and hits because they often get bullied by hyenas, get into brutal battles and fights, and HUNT, (something a gorilla can't do) and lions hunt often LARGE PREY, and they live in a much harsher environment thus they have adapted to overcome severe injuries and environmental changes.
