Thank you for clearing this up! Unfortunately, newborns have died in the past because parents fed them honey due to this tabarruq. Honey is an anaerobic environment that can sometimes contain botulism spores, which adult immune systems can handle but infant ones can't. :(
*_Dates contain essential nutrients our body requires._*

Assalaamu alaikum, try to say jazakAllahu Khayran, as JazakAllah can simply mean 'may Allah recompense you', which could mean that you are unintentionally asking Allah to punish the Ustadh. Try to specify 'Khayran' to make sure you're only asking Allah to reward the Ustadh inshaa'Allah. BarakAllahu Feek
Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
I know many people in the Subcontinent who do this with honey, i.e. they take a little bit of honey and put it on the gum of the child. No saliva is involved, nor do they do this with the intention of tabarruq. Yes, some may even soften the tip of a date and give it to the child to suckle on it for a little bit, but as I said, they don't do this with the intention of tabarruq from the saliva (the parents just do it themselves, if elders are alive, they see it as a form of respects that they do this). So they don't do this because of the saliva per se, but they say that this is good for the child, as both these things contain sugar and they say it helps the child after its birth.
How does the Ustadh classify this?
JazakAllahu Khairan.
