- Gerry is a tall man. 6' 4" to be exact. He needed a van that would handle his height and the fact that he has a spinal cord injury. The van turned out to be a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Gerry takes us through the features of the van that enable him to get around.
Before you buy one of these, look at the Winnebago Roam or any Ram Promaster Handicap van with the Braun Under the Floor Lift. The Lift is under the vehicle so it does not block the door for people NOT in a wheelchair.
Good to see some real sized people in videos about retro fitted wheelchair accessible vans. I am not that tall myself, well for a woman I am, but my husband is 6'3 and I have 2 sons, one the last time he was measured was 6'4 at 18 and another who is around 6'2 and 13 years old. We have a conective
oops, connective tissue disorder similar/same to Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility type. I have a few other things wrong with me too, which means I need an electric wheel chair, to get around. My boys have the same condition but they are younger and male so the condition isn't so
severe in them. One uses a wheelchair at times too, but mostly they walk. They both need enough room to be able to sit in comfort and when traveling they need to be able to recline/lay flat, due to pain, fatigue and blood pressure issues. So we need a fairly large van, for that reason. We also
need to travel all over the country to see different specialist Dr's. The condition we have is rare and because it involves a persons whole body, every specialisation of Dr can be involved in our care. Again because it is a rare disease you have to go to teaching hospitals where the volume seen is
so high that the Dr's are more likely to have knowledge or experience with others with the same disease. That seems to be the only way to get appropriate care. My husband and I would also like to have a very basic motorhome like setup for when we do have to travel. I noticed that you had something
similar to that in the back of your van. Do you have any other videos of the setup you have there and how you go about using it all.If so I would be interested to see those. Cheers

I'm looking at possibly converting a sprinter van for my wheelchair. The video did not show if the floor had been lowered at all in the front of the van. Has that been done? I would greatly appreciate your response.

Sorry I'm back again I would like to say ive seen a conversation like this and it cost 19 thousand pounds terrible amount of money so getting this vehicle for 18 thousand pounds is a sort of a deal and there is hardly no miles on it these sprinter vans can easily do 300000 miles and ive seen 2 with 400000 miles on them but they weren't disabled vehicles, just ordinary delivery Van's,,still that's a helluva miles s

I need a vecchio like this ive got muscular dystrophy and can walk short distance I can drive the best I have a Lexus rx witch is fantastic but my problem is getting to the vehicle so this Mercedes would be the answer the only problem is the price of this vehicle is mega money, money that I don't have,,,,I really don't know what to do, I'm stuck in my house until someone comes and helps me to my jeep and has to help me back in ,,,I don't want to be a prisoner in my house, at the moment it seems like a prison because I would love to go out on a lovely sunny day but usually I can't because I don't have the help I need
