Hey nice trick with the masking band! I just cleaned 20 meters of track with sandpaper and knowing this before would have saved me some time maybe.. I will try it next time. I just made a video on how I did it. Greets

Every day is a school day! I avoid using sandpaper as I find it way too abrasive and it takes the plating off.

@@FAWRailsandSlots ok but if the track is really dark and you wanna get it shiny again, you will take of the plating anyway, or not ? I mean there is also material coming of your track during cleaning right ?

@@slotcarvirus3141 No, the Scotchpad polishes the surface rather than scratching and abrading it.

Nice results! But to save energy, I would get abrasive wheels/ discs with the same compound as the Scotchbrite pads and put them on a drill or Dremel, depending on preference and what I can find. I polish my model car paint jobs with a Dremel/ polishing pad, and polishing paste, and save hours of work and not aggravate my bad shoulder. You can get the same results in a fraction of the time and not be exhausted.

5 cent: even faster and better and doesnt leave deep scratch on the metal and doesnt remove the coating is just using pen eraser. It is really fast, doesnt need masking. See you.

@@FAWRailsandSlots if it rubbs against the plastic track ( more abrassive) will do... But otherwise last ok...its not expensive..just need vaccum cleaning afterwards.
