Her 2013 clay season was simply phenomenal! Not a single loss, 5 tournaments won (including a GS and 2 big tournaments). Respect! That may be a record in the WTA? I can't think of any player who achieved that before or after her.
For 2013 Serena Williams was the the Queen of Clay. She won five titles on clay (Charleston Open, Madrid, Rome, French Open and Bastaad). That was most spectacular display of match toughness especially when you consider how she fared on the surface back in 2012. The other six titles were on hardcourts (Brisbane, Miami, Rogers Cup, US Open, China Open, WTA Finals). Her momentum was gained once she reached World Number 1 again and it was on. She went on GOD MODE once she entered the clay court season. None of it was easy far from it but she pressed on nonetheless. And this season came after she won 7 titles back in 2012.
Unfortunately she never managed to defend FO title (Iga Świątek did after 16 years since Justine Henin did it) which is a big asterisk to her GOAT status. A GOAT player should have numerous slam title defences in all slams, Steffi successfully defended her slam title at least twice in every slam.
@@SmithyPL Steffi didn’t face as much competition as Serena. Neither has Iga. Look at the depth of competitors Serena faced. And let’s be clear, Serena successfully defended every other GS title hasn’t she? Will Iga win all 4 at any point in her career? Highly unlikely. Graf has nobody to challenge her consistently until Seles came along. I mean who wins a GS title in less than 30 minutes unless there’s really nobody to challenge you??!!
@@SmithyPL But those pushers could easily beat Graf. Graf had the weakest era of all time. She rolled over everyone with ease. Serena faced more than just those pushers. She faced:Venus, Clijsters, Hingis, Capriati, Henin, Azarenka, Davenport, and so many more. Then she played ladies who were 5-10 years younger than her and still won.
@@jobuck879 it’s funny how these trolls mention the weak players she beat, but won’t dare to mention the top players that should have have handled her and she beat them with ease. There were time when she played against Venus when Venus was healthy and Serena was scary good. Her comebacks against amazing players like Azarenka and Li Na..facing mauresmo, dementieva, cljisters and sooooo many others. Serena is the ultimate champion!
I agree. Even though she lost some key matches 2012/2013 was her best years. She was such a complete player. The only person to give her hell was Vika.
And yet she lost to Makarova (26 36 at AO 12), Razzano (FO 12), Stephens (AO 13), Lisicki (Wim 13) in slams. Won only 4 of 8 slams. In her two best years. 😂
You are definitely a true Serena Williams fan. Thank you so much for these videos! After the French Open in 2012, Serena was on fire! Keep up the awesome content!
I think Serena did a great job to get the number one: she won Rome, Madrid...and the French Open 😂❤❤❤. Serena was unbeatable in those years, 23 slams and...discussion is over. She is the Queen
Incredible year. Off the back of her INHALATION in the Olympics, this was one of her many primes. Her serve unmatched in the woman's game this year. Ground strokes effortlessly powerful on all surfaces. Powerful energy. Was lucky enough to see her play Kerber in the Wimbledon final in 2016. She is even more phenomenal in person. Love this channel!!!!
It's literally a world wind of emotions with this season. 2013 was the most comprehensive moments and just sheer dominance. The way Serena was able to execute on CLAY (which has not always been a favorable court for her) was the most impactful. Winning two clay court titles into a MAJOR and win the major. She dominated in American hardcourt seasons leading to the US Open title which by that point was her NINETH title going into Asian swing courts before winning the WTA Tour Final and maintaining world number 1 and year-end no. 1 is the season we will be savoring for year and years MORE TO COME.🏆1️⃣1️⃣🎾
oh and also the girl who she beat in the first round of the french open although i don't know if she let her shake first, she just quickly got in there. it was very odd seeing Serena walk straight to the umps side of the court after each match almost like intentionally putting herself in arms reach of the umpire to just ram home who is boss. i don't like it. When I shake hands i go to the middle of the net and if i won a professional match i'd always let the opponent shake first. but it was a phenomenal effort to win all those matches and titles
The real interesting moment is Serena and Maria racing to shake the umps hand at the same time at 6:35 .Serena beat her to it and Maria just gave up. So awkward. 😬😂😂😂😂
@@jwill6312 omg didn't see that one. Started at the clay season. That was awkward ASF. I can't believe Serena did that. Sharapova was obviously the one to raise her hand to shake first and Serena, being the competitor she is, thought oh no I'm winning this battle too. I just wish someone would say wtf girl, you've just won the match, don't be in such a rush to shake the umps hand. Show a bit of respect but no one was game
I can’t stand people who beat Serena then don’t win the whole tournament 🙄 lol. Stephen’s & Lisicki both upset her in the majors then don’t win it all. Typical

@@DeclanSkinner Correct, idk what I was thinking as that 2014 USO win completed her hat trick and started her Serena Slam 2.0. Alas, if only she has won 2015 USO.
