Had Olessia not erred on bars during the team competition, I truly believe that she would have made it to the all-around final and won the Gold medal. She was definitely a one-year/ one-hit wonder, but Olessia is one of my favorites of all time (next to Lyssenko, Laschenova, and Strazheva).
Her top potential scores: Vault- 10, bars- 9.95, beam- 10, floor- 9.95. Even that just ties Boginskaya's final total. While it is possible she could have won she would have had to have an absolutely perfect competition on everything, and her beam dismount is inconsistent, so it is probably unlikely she wins. Medals maybe. She got a 10 on compulsory floor and I believe her beautiful floor work should be worth a 10 in optionals too, but it seems the judges felt there wasnt enough difficulty for a 10. Her bars was good but definitely not going to be a 10 I dont think.
@@sandylenzo5525 You said her floor difficulty was not enough for a10 , however, she had more difficulty than Boginskaya on floor who was the world champion.
Artistry and grace. Where have you both gone? You've left gymnastics and I know you're hiding somewhere. Perhaps once day you will return to women's gymnastics. This 1989 Soviet team is by far the best ever. These girls were phenomenal.
@akimbohr I know that Silivas and Bontas had harder routines but each of these routines satisfies the code and this routine had no visible deductions while Silivas and Bontas had deductions. Im just glad that judges back then knew the difficulty of a routine..but really if they were going for clean gymnastics Dudnik should have gotten a 10 for being perfect in all the moves she presented.
This routine scored a 9.95, not enough for the medal. Silivas and Bontas had more difficult routine but Olesia got a perfect 10 in the compulsories (that is why she qualified in the EF over Laschenova). Does anyone have that video ?
She will always be one of my favorite gymnasts of all time. What a phenomenal talent - such an excellent dancer. Is it true what I read that she now lives in Egypt?
@adventuregirl76 I believe you were right when you posted this, but you have to agree that it has gotten better. I've definitely noticed the routines with less artistry getting lower scores.
@gymnasticsloverxoxo i think these tumbling passes are fitting perfectly in this routine, it is not always good to have a lot of difficulty, Aleftina priahkina and Tatiana groshkova both had to much Difficulty (thanks to elvrira saadi), because of that. they were not able to preform routines for a long piriod without falling or going out of bounds. I have a trainer now and the first thing i learned was that. beside of that a wonderfull routine! (srry if my inglish is bad)
@chrislindsey14 but the current system puts emphasis on certain moves to complete over innovation...so you get a lot of routines that barely make the cut...while this routine was difficult for the time and she wasn't rewarded for it. It is getting better but it will never have gymnast try some great things and in certain combinations if they can't get bonus. I believe that someone is doing A score vids on here of old routines to todays code and its crazy to see what would pass today.
I wonder why she picked there to live of all places? Not to knock Egypt, but it isn't exactly a growing gymnastics country nor is it a very modern country. You would have thought if she left RUssia, she would have gone to the US or another modern country. I wish someone knew her story and why she left...I think she has a facebook accunt...maybe someone will ask her.
I heard she wanted to do a double arabian front as her mount, but was injured here? Surprising that she would "water down" to a full-twisting double pike.
@LCAmarkymark Yes you are right. I just hate how gymnastics was VERY subjective in the past. It seemed like the cool routines got the high scores, not the good routines..
I thought we talk gymnastics, not ballet or music presentation.. Dudnik's beautiful execution scored a perfect 10 in the compulsories but this exercise, in comparison with Bontas,Boginskaya,Silivas, was not worth a 10. Of the same opinion were also at least 5 of the 6 judges, who gave it a 9.95.
horrible lol...quite far from it...I don't a gymnast today could preform Milo's routine in 1992 or this one from Dudnik...I believe Dudnik wasn't scored fairly here in 1989 but in 1992 Milo earned her metal.
beautiful, great choreography combined with athletic ability. The Soviets were absolutely unmatched.

This is one of the most beautiful FX I've ever watched. Very graceful and elegant in moves and just so amazing.
Ah, the days when choreography meant more than a split jump or two, some spins and throwing oneself face first on the floor.
Artistry and grace. Where have you both gone? You've left gymnastics and I know you're hiding somewhere. Perhaps once day you will return to women's gymnastics.

Yes. There is a pristine, fluid, elegant quality about her. She truly was unique. I looove all the gymnats you mentioned too.
I love her dance capability.
This is one of the best floor exercises I ve ever seen. Dance is absolutely amazing and the perfection on the acrobatic series is wonderful.
Yes she actually lives in egypt which is modern and she used to coach me
Sorry! I forget to add the great Omelianchik as one of my top five favorites.
Amazing!! One of the best Soviet gymnasts. Anna Pavlova reminds me so much of her. Same lines and artistry ❤️❤️
Amazing!!
People were commenting about her 10 on beam in the team but I reckon this was worth a ten compared with Bogi and Silivas.
Tbh the entire Soviet FX rotation deserved 10's except maybe Baitova. Laschenova and Strazheva were underscored imo.
@@shushunovafan4301. Absolutely agree!
What is the music..I just want to listen to you over and over
I can't believe this was 20 years ago... man has time flown by. Excellent performance by Dudnik.
Now 30 years ago! ...And I can't believe that!

I just want to know where they found the .05 deduction at? I didn't see it compared to the other gymnast that day.
This is what I call "giving my all" to something 😍
This routine scored a 9.95, not enough for the medal. Silivas and Bontas had more difficult routine but Olesia got a perfect 10 in the compulsories (that is why she qualified in the EF over Laschenova). Does anyone have that video ?
Her compulsory routine is right here on youtube
Absolutely gorgeous.

She lived and worked in Egypt for a while, coaching gymnastics. She is now in California.

What's the name of music ?
George Gershwin, I think „Rhapsody in Blue“
@adventuregirl76 ..well said.
@TheGymMaster01 thats really sad...the risk of such difficulty
what happened to her before the 1992 olympics
I heard she wanted to do a double arabian front as her mount, but was injured here? Surprising that she would "water down" to a full-twisting double pike.
i feel like her choreo is the most awkward choreo i've ever seen, but it fits her well and it looks good on her somehow. nice.
Awkward? In what sense? It flows beautifully!
@LCAmarkymark Yes you are right. I just hate how gymnastics was VERY subjective in the past. It seemed like the cool routines got the high scores, not the good routines..
Chris Lindsey Really??? the soviets/romanian had more difficulty and better choreography than other countries.
I thought we talk gymnastics, not ballet or music presentation..

maybe she loves the culture? some people choose to move to a place because of the culture or things other than the level of development.
