De otro mundo!!! Que maravilla de rutina. Que placer! La gimnasia definitivamente llego a su apogeo en los 80 como mezcla de deporte y arte. A partir de ahi el arte se fue perdiendo y hoy por hoy es solo acrobacia.
Irina Baraksanova, Elena Mukina, Elvira Saadi ... such immense beauty and grace. And just look at female gymnasts today by contrast! Where is their artistry? To me they are not gymnasts, they are nothing more than power acrobats. How very sad.

She truly wasn't given the chance to shine. The Soviet coaches pulled her and Mostepanova from the all-around competition in favor of Omelianchik and Shushunova, claiming that Mostepanova and Baraksanova were injured because the coaches thought Baraksanova and Mostepanova did not have a chance at winning a medal.
Ironically, as Kati fell off beam, had Irina just hit her routines as in optionals and beat Mostepanova by at least .05 (and she had beaten her by .1 in optionals), she would have won the AA 🙏🏼

Of course it isn't fair, but that's how it went and there's nothing we can do about it. In the end, in my honest opinion, while both Irina and Olga were exquisite gymnasts, they weren't even nearly as good as Shushunova and Omelianchik.
Well, you shouldn't be too mad at them...they certainly didn't to it just to be mean...back in the day, both gymnasts and coaches were pressured to bring home GOLD, if they failed to do so, they'd be in trouble, so they did what they have to do and switched these girls in order to have the best bet. Plus, I have never seen a coach making a mistake in this situation. In the end, even today, Russians have this attitude, remember Komova's words - silver is like no medal at all?
Floor is supposed to represent the personality of a gymnast. If a gymnast isn't comfortable grinning like the Cheshire Cat then you don't choreograph a floor making them do this. The stupid grins on the faces of some of todays gymnasts are ridiculous & fake. They seem to think a fake grin will detract from the fact they can't dance & haven't bothered to put any effort into the choreography.

Miserable..... this routine would’ve lost its entire artistic essence if she smiled the whole time lol. Gymnastics would be way better if it still looked more like this anyways

I definitely don't expect gymnasts to put on fake smiles, but these girls are all miserable. They stopped enjoying what they did long ago.
