  • With automation being the topic on the manufacturing industry's mind, it can feel incredibly overwhelming and intimidating as a small- to medium-sized shop when looking at the options available. Should I buy a robotic arm? What about machine tending? It can be difficult to know where to even begin to look at the options.
Fortunately, we have automation expert Wade Anderson from @OkumaAmericaCorp's Automation Center of Excellence joining Ian Sandusky from Lakewood Machine & Tool to help offer some practical insight to companies looking to tackle this very topical issue. Whether you're a shop familiar with the options available or a shop still looking to make the transition - you won't want to miss this insightful discussion that will answer your questions!

Because of the chip problem: We have solved it in the company in such a way that we have a "special tool" - actually just a small tube in a holder. When the loader has unloaded the finished part, the spindle blows coolant out of this "tool" at 10 bar while the chuck is turning before the new part is inserted. It takes a few seconds, but we have at most 1 in 1000 parts with clamping problems!

Hell yeah Omron cobots. As someone who worked at Omron (formerly Adept) and used to own an Okuma Cadet Mate 4020, this video just made me smile 😁

Could you make a video on balancing parts? As far as weldments or even twisted stock.

I wish I knew of a good forum or website? Where machinists and welders could communicate? And push jobs to each other in both directions. Individually or as a sub.

Been there... 'designed' that. When I leave - they hire at least 3 people to replace me.
A lazy man with a brain and solid quality ethics = PRO-duction. 😊
