I made a trip to Benjamin, TX, straddled between two iconic ranches (The Waggoner and 6666), and learned just a little bit about the ranch community. You can’t just walk into one of those ranches with an application and hope to learn the trade, they are some very closed circles and have been for generations. It’s exciting to see Ranchlands so serious about exposing younger generations to this way of life. I can’t help but wonder if that’s why other iconic ranches are dying.

Y'all ever have a need to carry a firearm? Just wondering. Some of the row crop farmers, in my neck of the woods, have folks messing with their equipment from time to time and have even been shot at when they go to check it. One fellow I knew got armed to the teeth after getting shot at in his own field. Don't know if y'all have that kind of trouble out there or not. Just wondering.

Nope, we generally don't have any issues like that!

How would y'all suggest I get into ranching? I've grown up in Colorado my whole life, I'm learning to rope and ride, and if I can't join the Marines I plan on going into ranching, but I'm not sure where to start.
    Any suggestions?

You'll have to find somewhere that is willing to take you on and teach you the basics! You'll have to be prepared for little to no pay until you become pretty handy
