JIM CUMMINGS!! Man, why don't you have more likes on your own damn comment! I have to ask, since I (potentially) have your monitor/keyboard/proverbial ear... Many years ago, I went to an anime convention (early 2000s, Chicago Anime Convention). My first one outside of the state and my first time going to a voice actor panel. I was pretty excited and absolutely nervous. I asked the panel there a question that I didn't realize was, maybe, controversial? So, I'll ask here: What's your take, or opinion, or an example of Great voice acting and what's an example of "bad" voice acting? Is that question so controversial? I got practically booed out of the panel room for asking it - along with the audience taking the side of the panelist. I also, never got an answer. Just know, even if you don't answer, I love and respect your work. You, Keith David, and many others I grew up with and I admire your work. Thank you for all that you've brought to the stage and screen!
Keith is a national treasure! Love him as Goliath, the Cat from Coraline, Dr. Facilier, Husk, Atlas, Flame King, the President in Rick and Morty and Chaos!
Aahhh, I almost forgot you both did The Princess and the Frog movie together you both are my favorites among other actors, actresses, voice actors, and voice actresses I love!!! 😭😲😀😃😄😁😊
First, thank you Jim for being an inspiration to so many people over the years, myself included. Second, thank you to the production team for your hard work to make sure these episodes are so crisp and well produced. Lastly, Keith David has been one of my favorite actors over the years and it's an absolute pleasure and honor to witness this genuine interaction between two of my favorite human beings on this planet. ❤❤❤
Meeting Keith David was the greatest day of my life. He has become my favorite actor of all time. His voice work is legendary and iconic. One of the best in the industry. I’ve been a fan of him for a long time and the day I met him changed my life forever. When I now look back at his characters, there’s a different special feeling I have after meeting the voice actor of those characters. And it’s an amazing feeling. Husk and King Andrias are my top two favorite characters Keith David has ever portrayed. Loser, Baby is my favorite song from Hazbin Hotel. He’s one of the best singers I’ve ever heard, and his performance as Andrias was extraordinary magnificent. I felt a ton of emotions while watching Amphibia.
The actor/comedian they couldn't name was an Australian called Barry Humphries. The 'Hello Possums' character he used to play was called Dame Edna Everage.
Its Gargoyles reunion with Jim Cummings and Keith David since Cummings voiced Dingo the convincing Australian Pack member becoming an ally to Goliath in one of my favorite epsiodes "Walkabout" which also featured the late James Avery as the Shaman.
That episode is fantastic. You could see Dingo start his face turn and redemption arc during the "Upgrade" episode, when he's disillusioned with The Pack and their ways, and then is disgusted with what the others have done to their bodies. While he still fights the gargoyles for most of the episode, he quits at the end, which leads us to his phenomenal turn in "Walkabout." A "bad guy" who sincerely wishes to both atone for his past wrongdoings and become a real hero. It's kind of refreshing that he was dead set on redemption and followed through, and wasn't another character with hidden agendas and secret motives, who, of course, would betray the good guys. Nope, our Dingo becomes a real hero, and stayed true to it.
No one appreciates the scene where princess mononoke is running alongside Lord Okoto and nearly crying, Lord Okoto calls out to the forest spirit to save his warriors. "And be victorious!"
When I saw the thumbnail for this video in my feed, I audibly reacted. I don't remember exactly what I said; it might have been "oh, shoot!" The point is I was genuinely thrilled to watch a conversation between these two legends. Thank you Jim and your crew for setting this up!
Gargoyles absolutely changed my life, multiple times. From changing my view of the world as a child, to actually connecting me to my best friend. And that's just the rippling impact of one show. Add to that sprinklings of other great experiences, Saints Row the Third and IV were two of my favorite games, Keith David has been a huge part of my life. And having him interviewed by Jim Cummings, someone else who, as far as my life has gone, has always been there, is such a treat.
The ensemble cast for Gargoyles thanks to Greg Weisman is what made the show so successful. The Star Trek connection is also s huge part to the success of the show. The Hunter's storyline starting with Jim Cummings character pulling of a convincing Scottish accent is chef's kiss.
I love Keith's voice work. My personal favorite is him playing Chaos in Dissidia. Some truly spine chilling deliveries on his lines that made that fight so epic.
Keith is only in 1-2 scenes in There's Something About Mary but he really steals the show in those scenes. So many great lines with perfect comedic delivery. "What's the matter did you shit yourself or something?" "WELL HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET THE BEANS ABOVE THE FRANK?" "Relax I'm just fuckin with him, Woogie had a sense of humor!"
The first time I truly became aware of Keith David was when he voiced Goliath in Disney’s Gargoyles. I love that showed, and I loved his performance. Now I can pick his voice out just about anywhere. Thanks for this great interview!
Y’know, one of my first exposures to Keith David’s exemplary work came from hearing him as Chaos in Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012. He is SO GOOD!
