@@DT-267KIchikawa initially felt no empathy for anyone. Bro was planning to butcher his classmates just because with absolutely no logic or reasoning behind this. Until people started actually talking to him like Yamada did he begin to start feeling empathy.
He wasn't actually planning to do that tho, he was simply going through a stage called "Eighth Grade Syndrome" or "Chuunibyou".
@@TheGreatSalsaMan Actually, Ichikawa only imagined committing such evil deeds (albeit thought out in a manner only skin-deep in intensity) due to a crippling lack of self-esteem stemming from his self-awareness to his lonely background. However, he was subconsciously acting with empathy and kindness toward others even during this time, as shown through his actions during it -- he simply wasn't in a clear enough mind to recognize these acts he did for what they were over his self-loathing. So while he thought himself a freak or monster, his actions proved otherwise and hinted at a much nicer person underneath his aloof exterior. Yamada helped bring that part of him out.

Just wanted to share that during my first three years in my work, I never talked to anyone. I would always give everyone a cold shoulder response. Then, after the pandemic, I decided to open up. I would accept dinner invitations, go to team buildings, etc. I've gone through two promotions this past year alone, and I managed to gain some valuable friends and colleagues. Best decision of my life so far.
I feel you, pandemic made me reflect on my attitude too. I haven't made much progress yet but histories like these keep me hopeful, congratulations for all you progress

High school in japan sure is different compared to NA, I can not picture this scene happening in real life having grown up in Canada.
Yamada was getting insecure that his mans good looks are being exposed. It was mentioned multiple times that Onee is an attractive woman, Icchi just needs to dress the part, but wants to keep him for herself.
It's not as pronounced in the anime but in the manga, Ichikawa's resemblance to Yamadad is more pronounced and deliberate. Drives the point home that Ichikawa is ALSO Yamada's type looks wise, in that he's comfortable and secure to look at. Yamadad being a gamer also means she's not affected by his nerdy tendencies. Anna also sees Kyoutarou as someone very similar to the male love interest in her favorite manga.
People dismiss Yamada falling for Ichikawa as unrealistic but given everything Norio has structured, it all makes perfect sense why she falls for the guy.
