- Today we’re talking about shaped boards and how they can make skateboarding feel like you’re a kid again and give you an excuse to not take it so seriously. All are generator woodshop models and are available at www.skatesamples.com

When I get into a funk or feel like not doing tricks, i'll grab my mini cruiser and just, cruise. It is SO much fun. I love feeling like a kid. I can tell by your voice and expressions you were having an absolute BLAST!

dude i've been skateboarding for 20 years. I started when I was 14 years old with my friends. I was left riding alone around here. I really enjoy your videos because they motivate me to ride even by myself without a community nearby.

the thunder sticker gotta go first minute, I can't help I'm one of those guys as soon as I buy something new I gotta remove all plastics, films, stickers etc etc
I know sometimes I’ll see the plastic around a tv at a restaurant or bar and have to fight the urge walk up and peel it 😂

Think the resurgence in different board shapes is pretty cool. Powell-Peralta experimenting a lot with that as well. That Andy Anderson Baby Heron boards is super dope. Also, dancing with the DMCA devil with that Guns N' Roses song in the background 🤣

For 39 you skate smooth as hell haha I’m 30 an it’s a struggle to get up to the coping some days! You should set one of those up with the OJ super juice wheels! That GS5 is my cup of tea

my updated quiver looks the same, 10"er, Football 90's shape, Modern Egg, Mini Cruiser. All fun and each setup has a unique feel. I like how your content is giving you a platform to get cool gear, much respect!

I always have three boards, 8.25ish popsicle with 54mm 99a for street, Fat 9.5 Pool board with 60mm 97a, 80’s cruiser board with 60mm 90a. Love to switch them around on the “wrong” terrain. Been thinking about getting a proper freestyle board since I’ve been at it for 39 years and I’ve never had one.

I was riding the gs5 yesterday and it’s so much fun! I grew up only riding popsicles so it’s really sick getting to ride these shapes from back in the day. You already know! 👊

I bought 5 boards from generator after watching one of your egg videos ;) Right now im diggn the GS8, reminds me of the Welcome Golem 90's shape. I do like their eggs but right now im on an old school kick.

My cruiser is simmilar to that gs3 shape and i freakin love it. Got the oj super juice minis on 55m with some hollow indies. I wanted to make it a bit heavier because it's allready super light but the stabdard indies were sold out in my size. Luckiest bad luck moment ever, cause that thing flicks and flies like nothin. So much fun man
That dude really ripped at the park. Nice!! Thanks for highlighting the shaped decks. I think the one issue with the shaped decks is the taper towards the tail. I saw one guy put under 151 on the front and thunder 148. I think on the back. he said he didn’t want the back wheels to stick out towards the tail. Seemed really odd to me, but it works for him.
Two different sized trucks is crazy! I ride thunder 151’s and they’ve worked on a lot of different shapes so far. Even if you get a little hot rod on the tail it’s never deterred me
@@dadboard good to hear if you had a hot rod in the back that it didn’t deter you. With the shape deck and having a smaller truck upfront, but it being just right in the back did you get wheel bite in the front? The Winkowski deck always interest me but it seems like I would need an 149 Indy in the back but I could do a 1:59 in the upfront. Maybe just do Indy 159s and put narrow wheels?

Love that 90s era shape. I've got a Welcome Golem that is similar, SC Dressen decks, etc. Next challenge, nab a 10.38" Searat deck and slap some 10" trucks on! Love mine!

It’s actually a theories of Atlantis sticker I’ve had for a while. This board seemed like a good opportunity to use it. He definitely lived an interesting life to say the least.

bought some boards from skatesamples recently and im honestly kind of bummed... The egg shape board I got is definitely not symmetrical, the tail is a lot longer and bigger than nose, and the rest of the boards were all definitely ones that could not make it to the market... Boards had lots of those bruises/circle marks from where a branch use to be and the colored ply's were horribly dyed. Its whatever though, the boards were a lot cheaper than a regular priced board. I guess lots of those blanks being sold are shapes that never made it to production and ones that were not fit for final products.
What were the measurements for nose and tail? And yeah sometimes you get some knots in the wood but I’ve skated 4 of them now and it hasn’t made any difference that I can notice. I mean it _is_ called “skate samples” you’re basically buying boards that would be sent to a company to sample the size and shape to see if they want to order in large quantities to print graphics over

I’ve experimented with trucks and found that the lighter they are the better I skate. If you’re flipping your board and clicking the tail I think it helps to have a lighter setup

Which truck size do u recommend on that 9.1 gs5 deck? 149 or 151?
151 for sure. You could ride 149’s but you’ll have a magic carpet going on, which might make some flip tricks easier but I prefer a wider truck and it’s almost flush over the bolts

Yeah if they don’t appeal to you visually you’re probably gonna be bummed. I’ve been feeling that way about square nose popsicle boards for awhile, but honestly you can get used to almost anything after some time.

Love ur vids and know u have good intentions but this is the reason the skateboarding industry isn’t doing well. Everyone is cutting the middle man out and going straight to the source instead of supporting the local shops and brands we love. My local just closed after 50 years of being open. Everyone just wants to order online for as cheap as possible. No sense of community anymore. As an older guy like you, I try to teach the newer generation to put the money back into skateboarding so that it can thrive once again. I’m all for saving a buck but we have to support the shops and brands before it’s too late. Shop local kids.
Fuck all that. People are out here struggling to pay bills and make rent. If the industry wants to keep prices inflated post covid then they can target the parents and people making enough to justify spending $80 a month or more on boards. I go through a board every 2-3 weeks and I have kids to feed and bills to pay. I’ll buy soft goods and random gear from my local shop but I simply can’t afford to be getting hard goods at retail in this economy.
Shops also have the opportunity to offer their goods online and many of them aren’t utilizing that option. It’s not on the consumer to keep the industry afloat. If you can afford to shop local and pay full price all the time more power to you, but don’t blame people like me for looking for the best deals so we can enjoy skateboarding
@@dadboard don’t want to argue. I enjoy your content. Just something i noticed that you could be doing with your platform and voice is to help support the industry. I have bills and a family also but I do the best to support something that has given back to me in many ways especially if you hope to one day capitalize off of it. I work at a shop and we offer many deals every week from 50% off shoes and 30% off decks and can still make a little profit from that. We also have shop decks for $30 at all times in many sizes. Decks have only gone up $15 since I was a kid from being $50 for so long. I can assure neither the shop nor company are making much profit from the inflated price. We as workers can’t even get discount on decks cuz it’s the cheapest they can sell it for. Im sure shops would give you some discount if they knew who u were and went often. I know Atlas skateshop regularly has 30% sales on everything with free shipping. Many shops have 50% sale racks also where you can cheaper shoes instead of going to Ross’s. Just saying there options to get cheaper stuff while still supporting the skate brands that are trying to stay afloat
