    crazy how i went from clinicals and being all nervous, to graduating, then getting a job, and now learning all kinds of specialties that use to seem overwhelming and finally being the one who is teaching and showing the new students everything I can while they are doing their clinicals

      hey how long did you work as a surge tech before you actually felt like you knew a good amount? I have been advised to take any and every case that gets thrown at me to learn early, but I also don't want to keep making mistakes.

    • @254Wacolion
      @254Wacolion 3 місяці тому

      @@Eaon69 I’ve only been a tech for about 2 years but it took a little over a year for things to finally “click” but even to this day I still learn something new each time I scrub in. My best advice is just keep scrubbing in, ask the doctor questions about the case and just enjoy it. Eventually you’ll get better at doing cases even the ones you’ve never done before because you’ll be able to anticipate things better

      @254Wacolion Thank you for the response! that's what I've been told by students who are in clinical right now. I'm still in the first portion - theory. May I ask what kind of facility your first job as a scurb tech was? I was also told by some students that it is best to take a position at a hospital instead of clinic or surgical center due to the variety of cases you are exposed to. Is that something you would agree with?

    • @254Wacolion

      @@Eaon69 I’ve only worked at one place since I’ve started as a scrub tech and it’s at a level 2 trauma hospital, so I get some variety of cases. I’m not sure how it is at other places but if you’re looking to really expand your skills into different specialities I would say try to aim for a level 1 or 2 trauma hospital to get multiple exposure to different cases

    I'm almost done, getting closer to the benchmark. Right now I'm just trying to be a sponge and soak up everything I can. One of my favorite parts is when you get a surgeon who is comfortable with you and opens up and starts teaching. Your channel has helped out so much also! Love my surgical guide as well. I would recommend any student to get one

    I’m currently a cosmetologist and I love making others happy but I want to actually help others and do something more with my life! I’ve been looking into surgical tech for a while now I’m currently binge watching all surgical techs videos and learning so much. This sounds like such an intense and incredible job. I have autism and adhd so memorizing and organization are my strongest qualities! I’m honestly so nervous to start school thank you for these videos!! ❤

    Dang for our competency exam or whatever, we had to set up in 12 min or under 😰 lol and about opening lol yesssssss they teach you by the book in school/Clinicals but we know in real life it’s not that way lol I have techs that always tell us, “do as I say not as I do” 😂
    Attitude wise omg I struggled a lot with this, not from me but I dealt with a few techs that were just not open or receptive to teaching or helping us, it was really discouraging for a student and it made a lot of us dread going, this field is super humbling let me tell
    You and it’s not for everyone, you really have to have thick skin in this field

    I always had to introduce myself to the surgeon whilst gowning and gloving them!! It was lowkey awkward because they could be talking to the resident or med student at the same time 😂😂 only once did the tech introduce me to the doc 😭

    Excellent video! BRAVO! You just earned a new subcriber! All free information is solid GOLD. 🙏🏾 God bless you. I just switched my major in college to study for the Surgical technologist program. The salary from what I've researched is a lot and I'm willing to learn. Not just for the money but I can see myself doing this career since there is also a shortage of Surgical techs around. I was originally going to college to be a PTA and quickly changed my mind when I did more research on Surgical technologists. 👍🏾 😎

    I’m starting my clinicals in a couple weeks and I’m so excited! My professors make us set up under 25 minutes and they are very picky on everything for sterility which is great in preparing us for the OR.
    Also, my clinical site is an hour away 😅 but it’s a great opportunity.

    I appreciate a heads up like this.. I am going to be starting my second year the actual surgical classes soon and needed information as to what I will be walking into 😅 and enjoyed the pointers! I will definitely keep them in the back of my mind through my journey. So what is that surgical guide you have? I definitely don't even want to risk pulling my phone out in clinicals and I couldn't find the little guide you pulled out on Amazon. Where should I look for that?
