    Don't these Urals have 2-wheel drive? You throw a lever somewhere and then the sidecar while is powered too.

    I too have a Ural Gear-Up Sahara and I just did the Sheetiron put on by the Oakland Motorcycle Club - Interstate 5 to Ft Bragg on as many dirt roads as we could do.
    The Ural did everything I asked of it... slowly and at it's own pace.
    The fun part was when we had some water crossings and I engaged 2wd. It felt like it would go over anything.
    I noticed at 5:49 that showed the underside of the sidecar. The drive shaft to the sidecar wheel makes contact with the underside of the tub. Mine made contact as well. I think I actualy bent the drive shaft. We should have increased the preload on the rear shocks.

    Why didn't you put it into 2WD??

      You are absolutely correct - obviously, we did not realize that until after the edit!

    Why don't you turn on the drive to the carriage?

      I address this in another comment below, but the problem is that when you have 2WD on, you can't really steer the rig - it just wants to go straight. So we only used it when we absolutely couldn't get the bike out any other way.
      So as an example, you can see the sidecar wheel spinning @04:07. But at the beginning, we could get it out with 1WD and a push, so that's what we did! Part of it is also about what looks good on camera...

      I’ve only ever heard of people complaining about not being able to steer in 2wd who don’t know how to drive the rig

    Did that bike have two wheel drive because it looks like you had only the one rear wheel spinning?

    • @Bikeurious
      @Bikeurious  7 років тому +1

      Yes, this specific model (Gear Up Sahara) has 2WD. The problem is that when you have 2WD on, you can't really steer the rig - it just wants to go straight. So we only used it when we absolutely couldn't get the bike out any other way.
      So as an example, you can see the sidecar wheel spinning @04:07. But at the beginning, we could get it out with 1WD and a push, so that's what we did!

      But geez, there were some shots in the sand when the hack wheel wasn't spinning and y'all were pushing! 2WD is for dirt, mud and snow. Better tires help a lot too! Looks like you had a blast! I ride these things a lot, like everything else, it gets easier with practice, lots and lots of practice. Having you all take a brand new one out was very brave of Ural. They get better with age.

      Amen - better tires would have been great but we wanted to use the bike as Ural sells it. As you point out, it gets better with practice. Our first real day of riding with sidecars was the first day of the event. We were much much better on Day 2. I kept the rig for a couple of weeks and by the time I returned the rig I felt fairly confident with it and could fly the chair with ease. It's an entertaining vehicle!

      Good Lord! Never ridden a rig and did that run? Cajones largas! In that case, damn, not bad, says the guy who has been riding sidecars since 1996 and Urals about 5 years now.. The Duros are cheap, that is their best feature... Riding one of mine to the Keys this week...much easier ride and one helluva a party once we get there...

      I's a Honda XR650L with the front end from a Honda TRX400 quad. The front wheels were custom built.

    Guys, you could at least have engaged 2wd, that's a bit pathetic.

    • @Bikeurious
      @Bikeurious  7 років тому +1

      As I say below, we only used 2WD when we absolutely had to. As an example of when we did, you could look @04:07. Sometimes being stuck for a moment and throwing up a cloud of dust is more entertaining!

    Почему Вы пользуетесь этой техникой? Она морально старая и не эффективная. Вокруг столько классных мотоциклов!!!!!
