Im a geology student at UH and been hiking around Hawaii since I was born here. Awesome video and I love seeing Geology explained about Hawaii. I always love to learn more and you have provided a great video. I hope you can make it out here again and do some other hikes around the island, there are some amazing spots of geology in these hikes. Great vid
Aloha! Park technician for Diamond Head here! What great information on the geology of Diamond Head. Thank you for visiting the park and taking the time to educate! I will definitely be sharing what I learned from this video with visitors to the park! Just one small note. The military came into the crater pre World War I, not WWII like many people believe. The crater was purchased by the US government for about $3300. They wanted to use Diamond Head due to its strategic location and its clear view of the southern shore of Oahu. Construction of the trail and the Fire control station at the summit began in 1908 and finished around 1910. The task was completed using the hard work and effort of both mules, men, and modern technology (such as winches and pulley systems). Mahalo for sharing your knowledge!
