Yeah, it is barren, but given the story behind it, I see why. I hated that they turned it into another hack & slash, but I actually started loving it after awhile. Being a spin-off of the series, made it not so bad to me
I can forgive it being on the lower end of the quality spectrum among its counterparts if I can enjoy it for what it is. I'll give the demo a shot and see if it compels me in some way. I have played and enjoyed games more meh so my tolerance is pretty high.
Im very strict and critical on games. I must say the game isn’t worth 60$ and more like $40 but it does have solid fluid combat and a very good soundtrack. The game obviously is not trying to be something it’s not. Graphics arent half bad on the PS5. I would recommend the demo to people saying it’s garbage. I thought that too until i played the demo and was very very surprised how fun it was to play. That’s just me though.
What sucks is that I was bored after the first 1:30 of this video. I loved the idea of this game and was looking forward to it. But the more gameplay I’ve seen and combat, I’ve literally fallen asleep on other videos. I cant get behind this one
Whats crazy is that there is a free demo for the game that lets you play a good portion of the first mission, yet you watched videos and determined that you didn't want to play it.
If you already bought I hope you’re having fun. Die hard fans of VP Lenneth & Silmeria including myself should stay away until it’s on sale…. The story of 1 & 2 plus it’s mechanics is what pulled me in, Elysium is poorly executed…. I mean how lazy can you be to make souls as flowers to get a “backstory” of the game. This game felt like it was meant for mobile just because of its presentation.
100% agreed, the 1&2 are the best, from story to music, specially the gameplay system very special...that make me love those game so much, and when I see this one,big disappointed...f*** SE
@@StrawHatGamingg Gameplay isn't the only thing that made Valkyrie Profile amazing. Story and characters made it one hell of an experience and that's the main thing lacking from this game.
As someone who played 1 and 2 ad currently enjoying Elysium your opinion is way off base about the actual game. The backstory of Elysium is Ragnarok, the end of the world, and the game focuses on that. The main storyline is actually told through the Einerjahrs and thier submissions and the ongoing interactions with the limited NPCs alive during the end of days. If you are a fan of the OG games this one is right on par with those story wise, and the biggest change/hurdle is the decision to be action adventure style vs turn based.
20 hours in,I like it. Combat system is one of the best, good graphics at least for sprites and enemies looks good. The rpg system is pretty simple, like story and many elements. Anyway I really like this game, and just like happened with Biomutant,I feel the game is just OK,but people expected something else. So it became ugly and bad. True opinion? This game is just good. Does it worth 70€? Not today.
PS4 vs PS5 comparison, please? It seems that the PS5 runs at near/constant 60 FPS, while the PS4 runs at max 35-40 FPS in the demo. Wondering if this has been addressed in the final build, but probably not. It's also the same price for both - one optimized and one not, unfortunately.
I played the demo and enjoyed it because I'm a big hack n slash action game fan. Never played the older Valkyrie games so this game just felt like a fun action game to me. I'll probably wait till it's on sale though because there's so many other games coming out that I'd rather get.

I agree, I loved the Demo and it was a Day One purchase for me as well... I mean seriously, how many times do we as consumers feel overwhelmed by outrageously large open world games? I know i have, ehich is why I like the linear feel to this game and the fact that "my time is respected" as I have Kids and can't be too consumed in certain games lasting iver 100 hours of grinding... If it was b4 the kids then it be a different story. Lol Games like this are right up my alley as far as world size and game length. The only way to finish the game in 7hrs is to play on easy, never explore the main mission areas and skip every sidequest which eliminates all of the multiple endings.
I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I didn't enjoy my time with Valkyrie Elysium. I thought it was exhausting and boring. Though I'm happy for everyone who enjoyed it.
Is the quality of the story on par with old games? I am on edge on buying it. I don't mind at all the new direction of the game but I am concerned for the quality of the story.
@@SgtHeartmann. Have to disagree with the story sucking.... the story is straight forward if you don't do alot of subquest and especially the loyalty styled Einerjahrs subquest. The game has multiple endings and are effected by completing these subquest. The main storyline is intended to give you a sort of blanket overview of the game whereas the subquest are supposed to add backstory and substance to the overall narrative. The biggest barrier for fans of story driven or turn based rpg games is going to be the gameplay loop changes since this game is less about talking to NPC'S vs fighting enemies. If you like hack and slash games then the story will be fine, if you want deep narrative heavy stuff then you may not like the game as much. Either way the story definitely soes not suck, its just that the approach is different than the original games.
@@corey_massey Dude I like the game, but the story is what it is in my opinion. Let alone the flowers npc which are everywhere. Anyway to be clear I really like this game,I bought it for the fight and for the set,not for the story.
@@SgtHeartmann. No i get that....but i like the story. I don't think it sucks. I definitely don't think that its going to win any awards for story but its not horrible. I think in that regard it succeeds perhaps not at the level of primary story driven games but that is why i said that if you can accept the game as an action adventure game then the story is not horrible. My opinion at least.
Masterpiece game. Especially on hard difficulty. I'm over 12hrs on it and can't stop playing. Can't believe they brought back my beloved Valkyrie in such a impressive new look and gameplay.
The problem lies in the fact that people -- yet again -- set their expectations way too high. From the trailers and demo alone, it's very clear this is not an AAA type of game. Yet people are acting like it should be viewed as such and are bashing it because it isn't. This game is pretty enjoyable and the story picks up around the end of chapter 2. Is it anything amazing or deep or complex? No. If anything, I have a feeling I'll enjoy SO6 much more. However, I'm having fun with this game and it's worth the price tag for me. This isn't a horrible game and I understand that some people would rather wait for a sale, but that doesn't make this a horrible or bad game. It's just another example of people setting themselves up for disappointment before the game even released and being angry about it.
Hilde's Vengeance is bound to be interesting. And who knows we might get some interesting expansions that tie in the other games, like Maria meeting the Valkyrie Sisters (Lenneth, Hrist and Silmeria), climatic fights with Brahms, Lord of the Undead and the skeevy alchemist Lezard Valeth.
The demo was actually fun, but after looking at a playthrough on yt that was only 7hrs long, I said no thank you. Definitely a discount game, and I'm talking 60-75% discount

@@dawgyv72 I think your misinterpreting what I'm saying. It's not an rpg like the the previous titles. It's more of a hack and slash action game. It's also the going rate for games now, they are expensive. I didn't say I agreed with that, just that it's a different type of game to the previous ones

The fact that the developers provided you with a copy of the game for review purposes puts on the spotlight the biased evaluation. It’s understandable how, for what I wrote above, you wouldn’t speak ill of the game however this Valkyrie chapter remains uninspired, almost monotone and monochromatic in its graphic and lacking in its technical compartment. All in all, the real evaluation for this game should be 5: mediocre.
Most reviewers are too harsh at this game… they’re looking for something else that the game nor the DEMO did not even tease… It’s not perfect but reviews seem to be expecting all Action Adventures to be as cringy and flashy and wannabe-cool like the typical BAMCO stereotypical-weeb games…
This game is essentially Babylon's Fall, except with less epic / interesting boss battles and no "Live Service" stuff. After completing BF, and playing close to 90% of VE, I find it interesting how bad BF got skerwered, but VE is getting favorable reviews.... People must REALLY HATE live service titles...
No Lenneth, No RPG, No thanks, sorry but I have such a great respect for VP saga, it saddens me that they toke the Action-RPG route with this reboot ...
I thought that at first but after beating the game today I take back my negative thoughts. Solid game, not ground breaking or a 10/10 but a good 7.5. I'll always love the original for how unique it was especially but the reboot didn't screw things up overall.
Trimmed down story... uninventive... somewhat bland characters.... stands on the shoulders of action games that came before it... JUST SAY THE GAME SUCKS ALREADY lol.
Combat was really fun but don't expect much more. Level designs are simillar and empty , story is below average , no real character development , no armor , not enough enemy variety , facial expressions and mouth movements when speaking not good , i also had problems with camera and menu overall optimization not great. You can probably go on but it is still fun to play game it's like %80 hack n slash so all the minuses can be ignored but they prevent it from being a great game. 15-30$ sure but relase price 60$ not worth.
A Valkyrie without wings or without being able to fly? So, dimmed Norse mythology combined with asian style combos? It's as if I take shaolin monks and make them fight like medieval European knights... that's disrespectful to the culture and unoriginal. The environment has a dull/washed out theme, which can work out in some games but definitely not when you pair with with those slashy eye-bleeding colours of the spells and special effects - my eyes calm down due to environmental theme only to be ambushed and bled to death by spell effects.... Also the outliner on things, what's that for? To look like a 2D game? Their voices sound asian, the music and its rushed pace sounds oriental yet they are placed within the Viking universe... And the price... 50 pounds for this cartoonish children/feminine-oriented game? Maybe it's worth it for the genre enthusiasts whom they see it differently by overlooking all the glaring quirks and flaws, but for me, when you have Elden Ring, Hogwards Legacy, Skyrim, Witcher 3, Horizon and so many other very original, very polished and highly successful games within the same price range or lower...no thanks. 6 months after your review, the Steam Reviews rating is "mixed" for both all-time and recent, so not even the fans enjoy it as much. "Easily one of the best action games of the year" ? Yeah right, maybe if it's the only one... Your review sounds more fan-pleasing than honest and to the point. You mentioned some very important negative aspects, and yet you made them sound as if they were not that significant and in the end portray it as a fine game. How can I trust you for your other game reviews if this one sounds more like a commercial? Sheesh!
the combat wasnt realistic compared to other action rpg games, no one should be able to take down a dragon that fast at the beginning of the game, linear dull level, dull enemy design lets me know squareenix is suffering alot and from software is the new pinnacle of action rpgs. nothing in this game was not a challenge. the bosses barely attacks you or inflict major damage.

I want to remind people that this is considered a spin-off by it's creators. Not a reboot, nor a mainline entry.
yeah i would agree if so it codirects itself from the start with the living human and all
Great game finished at around 20 hours. Had a lot of fun with the combat system. Probably the funnest I’ve had in years. Grappling from enemy to enemy is really bad ass. And honestly a lot of these videos do this games combat no justice.
@Grey Comet lol thats stupid asf
Proof I beat a video game lol. If you’re wondering if I platinum it yet no working on that now that’s how much I like the game. Plus I’m sure it was no mystery that the game would be that long. Devil May cry it’s not even that long in that game is amazing
Thanks for the actual review. Lot of people just bash this game. I’ll get it while still on sale.
A better review than what I read from Destructoid. They ripped this game a new one. I felt like the reviewer didn't even bother to find a positive.
@blessROK It's not the job of a critic to "find a positive". A review is not better or good just because it reinforces your opinion.
@@smackgyver5670 some sure make it their job to find a negative, tho
@@animegamergeek1427 I've nearly stopped listening to critic reviews because I find too many critics that are nothing but a bunch of fucking Shills being bribed, especially IGN! IGN's crappy reviewers never say anything positive unless it's fucking cod! Gameranx and acg are the only cr I trust for a good critic review.
looks like a beautiful yet empty open world....why would i play this over any other jrpg? i wish it had something unique about it. feels like..... another one
The BIG QUESTION is. Where Arngrim?
Gameplay for Elisium is fire. Gameplay for Profile also looks cool.
@@StrawHatGamingg Gameplay isn't the only thing that made Valkyrie Profile amazing. Story and characters made it one hell of an experience and that's the main thing lacking from this game.
@@chaotix67 Good. Elysium more action. Profile more Lore. Will be playing it in December
I like this review didn't over hype but also didn't bash it for its shortcoming.
Yep, unlike RPG Division, who bashes & condescendingly insults anyone who disagrees with his dislike of the game 😂
I saw the art and thought it looked cool but it looks like a mobile game port to a pc
See THIS is how you genre shift: on a AA series, NOT your AAA Flagship title!
Who’s bright idea was it to have cell shaded graphics
20 hours in,I like it.
Combat system is one of the best, good graphics at least for sprites and enemies looks good.
The rpg system is pretty simple, like story and many elements.
Anyway I really like this game, and just like happened with Biomutant,I feel the game is just OK,but people expected something else.
So it became ugly and bad.
True opinion? This game is just good.
Does it worth 70€?
Not today.
Made sure to state “microsoft windows” versus “PC” didn’t ya
PS4 vs PS5 comparison, please? It seems that the PS5 runs at near/constant 60 FPS, while the PS4 runs at max 35-40 FPS in the demo. Wondering if this has been addressed in the final build, but probably not. It's also the same price for both - one optimized and one not, unfortunately.
Lots of pop ups in the turorial on ps5 too
I played the demo and enjoyed it because I'm a big hack n slash action game fan. Never played the older Valkyrie games so this game just felt like a fun action game to me. I'll probably wait till it's on sale though because there's so many other games coming out that I'd rather get.
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth (sort of updated PSP version of the original Valkyrie Profile) releases on PSN in December, if u wanna check out how the series was
@@animegamergeek1427 for sure I'll check it out
Lol the series has always been a hack n slash action game.
The long difference is that the old ones you could control a party
@@Coreisus kinda like a mixture of turn-based & hack and slash
@@animegamergeek1427 ah yes true.
Still tho, is it really so far off of an evolution?
It’s a “get when it’s free” game.
These people know nothing about games, stick to reviewing call of duty. Thank god I don't follow these clowns
Yet here you are. Viewing the video and giving it engagement.
Love your reviews. Thank you
I got the game day one and has been really fun. Managed to get a 500 hit combo that looked epic AF and with a great looking spear finisher
Plus it reminds me of Ys 8 as fas as combat and that's one of my first jrpgs i had gotten into and fell in love with it. 😎👍
@@gabrielhoward5601 I don't have kids & I tend to favor the linear games over the massive open world games myself.
@@animegamergeek1427 it's like development teams nowadays don't want you to play any other game but "theirs". Lol there can be 3 to 4 AAA titles released in same month, I'm not grinding out on a game when I have other amazing stories to experience in my backlog of PS4/PS5 games. Lol
@@gabrielhoward5601 I hear ya 😂
I usually alternate. If I play a game that's big & open world, my next game I go for something linear & quick.
Some people don't like a short game & considerit a waste of money, but I always say, I'd rather pay for a short game that I'll finish than a long game that I might not
Haven't got up there yet. I got too three hundred and something before I got that spear which is OP. Thanks for giving me something to strive for 💪🏾💪🏾😂😂
My friend finished it in a little over 7hrs on his first playthrough. That's right, a 7hr Valkyrie full game, what a joke 🤣 and guess what, only 4 einherjars 🤣 Square Enix sure knows how to kill a franchise. Glad I didn't waste $60 for this trash.
What a marvellous review! Well written and insightful
Frame rates were kinda bad on PS4 😅
Is the quality of the story on par with old games?
I am on edge on buying it. I don't mind at all the new direction of the game but I am concerned for the quality of the story.
I like this game, because I love Northern mythology and the combat system is truly fire.
But story sucks man,that’s it
@@SgtHeartmann. that's unfortunate to read. But thank you for taking the time and replying to me
@@SgtHeartmann.
The story does what story is supposed to do, give you a reason to care about why you are doing what you are doing.
If I'm paying 70$ for a game, I expect AAA. I liked the Demo but its a 40$ at best to me.
It's $100 australian money so I'm hoping for a game that's not going to make me fall a sleep
Game needed a bit more environmental design budget, but looks decent overall
He sure was sure to state “microsoft windows” instead of “PC”
i don't see why anyone would pick this up over FFSoP or dozens of other jrpgs that are half the price
SE spent more money for reviewer than development of this game
It plays like an Y's game...
Wheres arngrim? Mystina? Finishing strikes? Wtf?!
Neve played any Valkyrie game but may buy this at some point.
the exaggerated swagger of a rebelling valkyrie
The game isn’t perfect but it’s loads of fun still. Loving it so far and hoping for cool updates.
This game felt like made of side missions only and no main story, bought Lenneth to get the bad taste out after playing this.
Why they didn't go with full cellshaded style like Genshin Impact? Such a missed opportunity IMO.
actually bummed that it didnt lived up to the hype
The demo was actually fun, but after looking at a playthrough on yt that was only 7hrs long, I said no thank you. Definitely a discount game, and I'm talking 60-75% discount
I hate how they're taking classic rpgs and turning them into "action" rpgs. Just give us our damn rpgs.
Makes me think of fable battle wise 🤔
Very well detailed review. Thank you!
Yea get it in sale cause i replay it
How is Square Enix still able to release full priced games that look like ps2 games and have literally no depth?
This game was great for 20 bucks full version
I was about to preorder on PC because of a 20% off sale but i read only consoles get the Lenneth remaster as a bonus so fuck square enix.
Amazing game, beat this on day 2 of early acceds, i wants more
Gaming bolt gave this game an 8 out of 10
How in the hell does this deserve an 8?
To sum up it these videos that make us lose faith in channel like ign and gamingbolt for their *dishonesty* and openly sellout behavior.
I played the demo for this and was completely unimpressed. Maybe if the price goes wayyyyy down, I'll give a shot. It's on sale for $40 in the PSN store and on Amazon, and I will still pass on buying it.
hmm i think Ill wait till 20 bucks, I see star ocean 6 on sale for 40 bucks im gonna pick that up
Got it for 35 don't regret it at all . Not the best game far from it but I enjoyed it .
The game pretty much feels like Trinity: Souls of Zill Ol
looks like a black Friday /Christmas sale game
I enjoyed the demo, seems either people were expecting a full rpg, I'm surprised it's getting such average or even negative reviews
"people were expecting a full rpg" what the fuck is someone supposed to expect at a premium price
@@dawgyv72 I think your misinterpreting what I'm saying. It's not an rpg like the the previous titles. It's more of a hack and slash action game. It's also the going rate for games now, they are expensive. I didn't say I agreed with that, just that it's a different type of game to the previous ones

Valkyrie Elysium is like a walk in the park compared to ER.😅
the demo satisfied me enough to day one purchase with some gift cards I had from some work goals having been met. Verry happy with it still .
Watching this made me want to play silmmeria again and wait for it to get cheap on a sale in some years.
I'd rather buy silmeria for 60 dollars on ps5 than elysium. Silmeria was one of the best jrpgs of that console gen
Looks like a mobile game. Shame on the memory of the amazing VP OG games.
You clearly don't play mobile games lmao
Got it day if release and put about 6 hours into it so far and I'm bored. The story is lame, the game is all about the combat but it gets repetitive and old fast.
What a great review can't wait to buy it Monday
The fact that the developers provided you with a copy of the game for review purposes puts on the spotlight the biased evaluation. It’s understandable how, for what I wrote above, you wouldn’t speak ill of the game however this Valkyrie chapter remains uninspired, almost monotone and monochromatic in its graphic and lacking in its technical compartment. All in all, the real evaluation for this game should be 5: mediocre.
Most reviewers are too harsh at this game… they’re looking for something else that the game nor the DEMO did not even tease…
It’s not perfect but reviews seem to be expecting all Action Adventures to be as cringy and flashy and wannabe-cool like the typical BAMCO stereotypical-weeb games…
It’s because we all have a finite amount of hours and just one live service game is a lifestyle.
@@kirobz BF can be completed Single Player thru the "story" and takes roughly the same amount of time as VE's story mode.
Nice
Looks pretty average. I played the demo and the pop-in (PS5) was atrocious. Sadly, it seems the final game didn't improve this in any way.
Trimmed down story... uninventive... somewhat bland characters.... stands on the shoulders of action games that came before it...
JUST SAY THE GAME SUCKS ALREADY lol.
After playing it man it definitely doesn't suck
i found the demo really boring
I have been playing game this week. and I'm really enjoying this.
spin-off from the original series or rip-off ?
I just got this 👍
Didn’t even get 45 seconds in this video and I’m moving on. Leaving a like for the quality of the video. Just don’t like the game already.
Demo was fun. But I'll be picking this game when it goes on sale for the holidays.
15-30$ sure but relase price 60$ not worth.
man this game was SO boring, refunded after an hr or so. Wanted the old game: got some shitty version of other action rpgs, and I do mean shitty
The fact that you're only show off combat tells me it's not a good game
Ooh awesome
