    I just got this and the Dream 65 and for me they sound the best of any modeller emulations, especially the volume roll down! Definitely a game changer for me. When I go ampless this summer, I may only need those two Amps with no gain pedals. Great demo

      That's what sold me. I watched one of James' videos talking about it, he said back in the day especially guys would roll the volume off ALL the time, and I kinda play that way myself more and more as I get older. I want to dial in a sound that has borderline too much gain, then dial the volume on the guitar back! And the fact this pedal does that so well is why I bought one!

    I love my Victory Sheriff 25 Head into a 2x12 Creamback Cab but as a more portable solution and just for some practicing at home, this pedal is a real gem. I was never able to get such a authentic Plexi sound out of my Kemper (not without messing with two dozen knobs and buttons for hours)

  • @stoneysdead689
    @stoneysdead689 19 днів тому

    Yes- it does sound amazing- I bought one and you guys were right- about that part. Now, let's talk about the huge part you totally left out and said almost nothing about. The fact that 1. getting this thing updated and paired with your phone- is no small task. If you don't believe me go read the comments under the reviews of this series of pedals- not just the lion, they all use the same app, and work the same way. What you're going to see are hundreds of ppl who ended up having to return them because they could not get the firmware updated and get the pedal to pair with their phone. I on the other hand- did manage it, after 4-5 days of cursing and spitting- it finally just worked. I did nothing different- it just decided to finally work- sort of. Now, I can get it to pair with my phone- sometimes- but when I do- I get 20 factory presets, and 20 by some guy named Santiago- that's it. I have no idea where all these other presets you guys are using come from- we don't have access to them in the app- I don't anyway. I've tried everything- nothing but these same presets, all by Santiago. You guys loaded one on here that had reverb in it- I can't find that anywhere. Ppl are expecting to buy this pedal and have the same experience you guys just filmed- but we're not getting it. And don't think you'll just call UA- they don't do phone calls, only emails- and those emails walk you right back through the same steps the app already walked you through. I mean whose idea was it anyway to store all your presets and settings in your phone instead of the pedal? Can you imagine a real gigging musician trying to use this? "Well folks, we were going to play our hit single but- my phone isn't working with my pedal right now."

  • @duncancartledge1667

    Captain and Pete are missing the point about the Hall reverb in the Moonish Clean setting. You can load the preset, change the cab, amp and speaker settings then save as a user setting.

    I think I remember reading that the Bright Cap setting only works in the Lead/Brown modes and is most noticeable when you back off the guitar volume.

    • @ludvanlazarz
      @ludvanlazarz 6 місяців тому +2

      The super bass never had the Bright cap. On the super Lead (and Brown which is a super lead), the bright only works whilst the volyme of the amp (no master) is lower, essentially a treble bleed, making the clean sound more clear and biting. Many players used to clip it because they wanted a more "even" sweep on the amp volyme pot. A 2203 and 2204 are similar, very trebly unless you clip it

    • @matsandersson8857
      @matsandersson8857 3 місяці тому

      I’d say that bright cap is a big part of the Super Lead sound. It was a big mistake to change the original 4,7n bright cap on a Super Lead to 100p.

  • @OgamiItto70
    @OgamiItto70 6 місяців тому +4

    I'll speak under correction by my fellow more-knowledgeable posters, but I believe that a "bright cap" is a capacitor on the Volume I channel that filters out some low end of the incoming guitar signal. On a real amp it has the effect of causing more noticeable distortion at lower volumes, but the volume control (on the amp, not the guitar) has the characteristic of "popping on," i.e., the sound will be very faint at first as Volume I is turned up and then suddenly *_BANG!!!_* it's loud. Without the bright cap, the Volume I rolls on more smoothly and evenly, but the saturation is not as available until later in the potentiometer's sweep (at more volume).

Any chance you guys could pass one of these over to your bass review team so we can see if it would be a good option for us four stringers who don't have the room, funds or noise suppression gear for a vintage 100w Marshall stack?

    That reverb at the end IS GORGEOUS, hopefully they can patch the App it so that you can select which reverb flavor on the amp. The Room this is cool, but I use my real Marshalls with a touch a Reverb because it just sounds wrong without it to me. And Reverb is better than, Room it just is.

    I recently picked up the OX cab stomp box and it absolutely blows away my other IR loaders (boss TAE, captor X and fractal FM3 dyna-cabs).
    I was on the fence with this pedal but that last bit at the very end with the clean tone did me in 😅
    Seriously, being able to toggle between that and a cranked high gain lead AND have a boost toggle switch is such a simple but complete setup as I can get reverb and delay from the OC stomp, send a DI signal from the stomp to a Duncan power stage and can behind me and a cab sim signal to the house.

      @@stoneysdead689 I have trouble connecting the pedal inside the app.
      Every time I want to do that, I have to unpair the pedal from the bluetooth settings, restart my phone, restart the pedal, open the app, remove the pedal, then add the pedal again.
      All the steps are necessary every time I want to fiddle with the settings.
      And after all that it looses connection after a few minutes.

    I wonder what the differences between them would have been like if using the same IR. Either way, this pedal sounds wicked.
    Retubing a vintage 100w is neither cheap, time efficient nor fun. And the amp always sounds different afterwards! Tempting. Although aside from using the pedal's analog I/O I don't think there is a way to reamp with it. Too bad! Maybe I have that point wrong idk.

    To defend UA's decision to have all different pedals; people identify a lot with the amps and brands they choose. @CherryBerries2009 Well, it is more natural sounding because he used just the amps and cabinets. On VH1 and from W&CF, he used the load box method.

      Same…the difference wasn’t as big as I thought it would be but the actual amp was definitely more full sounding and harmonically rich.

    I have the Dream 65’ but I guessed wrong. These pedals are getting ridiculous 😅 ( Edit: It’s borderline criminal you get such a good sound so easy) 😂😳

    Holy shit. I watched the beginning twice and said the first one was definently the amp because it sounded thicker and had a woof sound to it like a marshall does. I was wrong.

    You tested the bright cap on the bass amp wich haven’t got one. It doesn’t work there. I think the Brown sound is intended to go with 4x12 with the mix of Greenbacks and JBL speakers like Eddie used on the first Van Halen album.

    I've got UA's Dream 65 and I love it - it's perfect for what I do. I have to admit I guessed these completely the wrong way 'round - I thought the second sound each time must be the pedal because it was so much brighter through headphones. So, ironically, what I thought was a classic Marshall tone was actually the Roarsome! As I've come to expect from UA, It sounds amazing 😎, but I'd have liked to have heard the amp with some of the brightness rolled off for closer match.

    Question! Does it sound as good if you go without the cab simulation into a power amp? A seperate or the return on the effects loop on an amp like a Marshall or something?

    dear friends at andertons music, big fan here. ....my main question, is how is the dynamic with this pedal? simply just turning down the volume knob how it responds/ reacts? i have been for many years (and still now) frustrated by amp simulations that sounds ok with high gain, but the tactile feeling, dynamic , of a "real" thing, is missing out totally, the sensibility to the touch passing your fingers on the strings, they little nuances in dynamics are 99% lost in amp simulations. Is this (for what i have heard) working differently? they were able to put in this missing piece?

    @Andertons Music Co Tomorrow can you do this test with the UA Lion into like a 50 watt and 100 watt Marshalls And maybe a Laney and a Magnatone
    INSTEAD of straight into the board?! Pretty Please?

    I use the Dream 65 with the Twin setting with JBL cabs into the effects loop of a solid state Blues Cube. I'm chasing Jerry Garcia tones. Love the pedal, not a fan of UA or the Bluetooth.

    A great alternative to the UAFX Lion, which I bought a few days ago and which costs only half the price of the Lion, is the "Rodenberg BL800 Gold", hand-built in Germany, which sounds fantastic to my ears and comes very close to a JCM 800!
    Musical greetings from Germany

  • @iburley_

    That last thing you touched on is key for me. Everybody seems to balk at the prices of these because you'd spend so much to have all of them but I don't think that's the goal. I think you pick your favorite amp, buy that pedal and a few effects to add to the chain, and rock it as if you've just bought an amp. You're getting something like a "golden sample" Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb with all common mods applied (and toggleable) for $400. These things seem insane. I absolutely understand wishing one of these pedals had all of the amps, but do you think they'd release that at the same price?

    • @zipporaid
      @zipporaid 6 місяців тому

      I'd probably buy one of these if they put out one that you could update the firmware to replace the amp or something. Like those toneprint pedals. They all have the same button layout afaik

    There’s a certain texture in how all the chord notes sound/mesh together with the real amp that once I heard it said “if this is the pedal then they’ve done it” but alas it was the amp of course. Not knocking the Lion. It’s amazing and so practical. In certain scenarios it will be the better choice. This should not be a tubes vs modelers discussion, these are all tools to enable the more important thing: music making. Choose yours and go forth!
