Thank you so much for this. My family and I will be moving to Dallas by the end of the year from NY my kids hate rain (thunder and lightening) they keep asking me if the weather is bad in Dallas and I’m like...... Uhhhhh! Lol I’m happy to show them this video for reference.
Texas is number 1 in the world for the most reported Tornadoes. Spring and Fall is thunderstorm season. Winds up to 70 mph and baseball size hail. We’re in the perfect spot for Tornado development.
I live in Dallas as well. True, it doesn't take much snow to shut everything down, but the really serious weather is the ice. In addition to making the roads hazardous, the ice can coat power lines and bring them down or snap them in two. A really bad ice storm can shut Dallas down for a week. The heat? Let me just say this - it's 10:30pm and it's 95+ and that's not particularly unusual. And it's still humid. Otherwise, DFW doesn't get too much really extreme weather. That happens mostly in other parts of the state. Snow, ice, cold? In the northern panhandle. Think Amarillo and esp. Dumas. Wind/sandstorms? Think Lubbock, (ugh, where I grew up). Houston and Corpus Christi get the hurricanes and tropical storms. Central Texas (think Austin) can get some bad flooding if there is heavy rain out to the west. Large thunderstorms can be VERY bad, with heavy rain, hail, and of course tornadoes. But truthfully, when I lived out in CA, I missed the thunderstorms. They can be epic, powerful, and apocalyptic, truly a force of nature. But so can an earthquake. And at least you can get warnings on tornadoes. If you're curious, there is a good channel (I think it's called pecoshank) he's a storm chaser and photographer. On the other hand, if you're a little scared (and it's not silly to always be a little scared of tornadoes), maybe you should pass. LOL
2:08 Imao in southern Germany we sometimes have 2-3 meters of snow for weeks (with 23 F - 14 F) and nothing shuts down. On the other hand in summer when we only get slightly close to 30 degrees (86 F) all schools shut down.😄
I was out the other day in Fort Worth thinking how perfect the weather was. My assumption was it was 80 out, but the weather app claimed it was 96! Fort Worth Texas is great!
We were very fortunate this spring! We only had about 6 occasions that I’m aware of that a tornado warning was issued for Collin County, north of Dallas CO. That’s good!
I live in Fort Worth. When it’s supposed to rain it doesn’t and when it’s not supposed to it does. It’s hot and sticky and we rarely have any major tornados
Hi Dana, my wife and I were just discussing the weather there last night and wanting a local and current perspective! This video was perfect timing. Thank you. Considering moving from California and keep going back and forth from the suburbs of Houston or Collin County in your area. The weather is the primary factor for us since we're retired. Tornadoes are extremely dangerous! You need a tornado shelter. An F-5 tornado can sweep a home clean. The only thing left is your concrete foundation 💀

I also have a friend in Texas. What do you guys do about mold in houses? And is it true that produce and food at the grocery store have mold in them? I’ve had people tell me that so it makes me nervous moving to Texas because of the mold but it’s absolutely beautiful there
This is my take on Texas weather from a Yankee who moved to Texas in 1980. Hot weather. Usually starts in late May or June. Gets hotter until we enter Mini Hell in August. Late Sept we start with Indian Summer. Low humidity and beautiful clear days. In Dec we reach Mini Winter which lasts til Feb. Might get a smidge of snow. Texans do not know how to drive in snow. We have quite a few snow days. Then in March we move into Tornado Time. You can buy Tornado shelters which fit in the floor of your garage or can be buried in your back yard. Only experienced one Tornado scare in South Arlington. It is NOT HUMID. Houston is Humid.
Too many people assume Dallas weather is like a desert or a Western film, or somehow unlivable with twisters and hail. I'd argue the weather is seriously under-rated. Even the "heat" is not a problem if you follow what I call "hot weather rules": stay indoors in the heat of the day. It's perfectly fine for a morning and evening stroll.
I did have a question but your left hand answered it 🤷♂️. P.S. the hail storm you spoke of was the Mayfest hail storm which took place in May of 1995. I was also there for the March 28, 2000 tornado.

I'm originally from the east coast but the past few years I lived in Los Angeles. I'm now in tx. I miss my perfect LA weather. People should know that in winter it drops to the 20s/30s here in tx. Also a good chunk of tx experiences hail. Golf ball size. Definitely tx has some crazy weather.

andddd what about the people. I lived on many place in many different countries. But no one on social media talks about the truth about Texas. Yes Texas is a great place in many things but if you are an open minded, natural healing person and if you do not hold a bible in your hand (following an other believe system) do NOT move into small towns in the bible belt. You could end up in 1840 and not in the year 2019. The real Texas is very difficult. You can imminently sense a real Texan or a person who moved to Texas. Big difference. If you come from a place with culture, great food opportunities like Italy or Germany, you may will not find happiness in small towns in Central Texas. Big cities offer more live style and for sure many different people from all over the place. I would sell our Ranch in a heart beat to get away....

@@movingtotexas Good video! I am a Canadian living in Frisco. Would it shock you to learn there are cities and towns in Canada that normally have warmer winter nights than Frisco? The difference is very noticeable in some cases. I can show you if you find that fact unbelievable. Would you like to see?
Bipolar
andddd what about the people.
