Ripton is bordered by the town of Middlebury to the west, Bristol and Lincoln to the north, Granville to the east, Hancock to the southeast, Goshen to the south, and Salisbury to the southwest.
Ripton town population was 739 as of the 2020 census.
The highest point in the town is the 3,835-foot summit of Bread Loaf Mountain. The mountain lends its name to the community of Bread Loaf and to the writers' conference that is held there every summer.
In reference to the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, Jessica Ravitz of CNN said that the town "is the kind of place where cell service fails more often than it works and the country store is really just that....Tibetan prayer flags wave outside a weather-worn home, and the fog lifts to reveal a white horse grazing in a field".

Nice! Right on VT Rt. 125 and the Middlebury River. Was just there last week visiting family. Miss it!
Back in the early 1990s, my wife and I attended a meeting at Breadloaf and stayed overnight at the Chipman Inn, 2:09. I even see the window to the room we slept in. Thank you for screening!
And I’m mesmerized by watching the river at the end!
One of my favorite places in the world to walk although I don't get there as often as I'd like, but studied 2 summers at Breadloaf which I think is about 3 miles or so from this location. That'd be a great place to do a walking video. Really a stunning little campus.
