  • On this video tutorial we are going to learn how to set up an I (W beam) beam profile and create a shear and bending moment diagrams, maximum bending stress due to M is also covered. Finally, reaction forces are calculated on this tutorial. SolidWorks Simulation Result are then compared to the hand calculated values.
This is another classic classroom problem, hope you enjoy!
    Learning Outcomes from this video:
    • Setup "I" "W" beam for simulation
    • FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
    • Bending Stress
    • Reaction beam force
    • Shear and Bending Diagrams creation
    • Read and modify results
    • Use of Weldment tool
    Thank you for watching! Enjoy!

How to analyze the von Mises failure theory when that tube is worked as a beam

Would you happen to have a reference that explains the sign convention for the shear and bending diagrams? I am trying to relate the sign to the direction of the 1 and 2 axes and I am not sure my interpretation is correct. Amy reference will be appreciated. Thanks!

How to analyze the von Mises failure theory of that wide fin beam

Can someone answer to my Q, usually a beam subjected to bending and shear and we check for both, but here in this video, the beam only shows over stressed under the point load. so my Q's are 1.is this output only reflecting the flexural stress if not what stress? 2. how do we know this will satisfy the max shear at the support?

Thank you so much for the clear demonstration, I really appreciate that, Could we perform this analysis in Solidworks 2018?

You certainly can, it is possible to perform this simulation in 2018.

Check the direction of the loads, make sure they are pointing to the same direction as the problem.

how come my constraints for the left part of the beam or where you placed the fixture on the edge, are nonexistent on my part? There is a reference point but it is in the middle of the beam. How do I make it so that the reference point can be on one of the edges?

If you don't see the joint dot on the side, go to "Joint group" then right click - Edit, then under "Selected Beams" click on "Select" and select the beam face(s) (for this example the beam was split into two section), then click on "calculate", that will provide you the joints on the sides. Hope That helps.

Hello good Sir. Why do you have reaction forces also going another direction apart from the one indicated on paper. Or you just have to know
