I have tried to open a 3 month old Acer Aspire 5 (2022) A515-57G laptop to upgrade 1TB SSD by myself. I lost its warranty for this.
I purchased on 1st October for INR 53000 for the 16GB RAM variant and 500GB M.2 SSD. This has another empty slot (1Gen4+1Gen3). I installed this WD blue SN570 NVMe (gen3) for storing data and media files.
Due to SSD "overprovisioning" I am getting 870GB in actual.
if you purchase 1tb SSD, you will get 931gb (visible in gparted [a Linux app to manage disks]). however, in the file system (or command line) you will get approx 869gb (usable space). The extra space is not visible anywhere in the host.
The “1TB” term is used for marketing and sales - it is a decimal terabyte, where 1TB = 1000GB. The computer shows 870 GB because it uses binary storage - where 1TB represents 2^10 = 1024GB.
Typically, storage devices advertised with the (decimal) value of 1TB have around 931 binary GB of storage.
To preserve its lifespan SSDs use “overprovisioning” which, by default, allocates 6.7% of the storage space to an overprovisioning drive.
6.7% of 931GB is around 62GB. 931 - 62 = 869GB, rounded up by the computer to 870GB.
To conclude, the sudden “disappearance” of 130GB is due to poor values used by marketing, and default overprovisioning values.
I will review that drive very soon with actual usage.

sorry for late reply. Hope you already fixed it, check the ram with mem86 for bad sector. ssd may also broken.
you can try one device at a time so you know which is bad.

@@dotKey i was wrong your model is micron 2450 mtfdkba512tfk gen 4x4, they are also using sk hynix in some aspire A515-57s it seems due to different regions the hardware gets little bit diifferent.
@@Am_Had Agreed! some other users from India too said they have 16gb x2 ram while I got 32gb x1. Also the touchpad has the issue.

Which one is pcle gen 4 slot , i read gen 3 does 1st slot is gen 4 slot ?
Once you check those slot, you can see its written there. The side one is Gen4.
@@dotKey my default ssd ( GEN 3) is gen 4 slot, can i put that in slot gen 3 slot ( which is now empty) and buy new ssd for gen 4 slot ?
@@tomtomdu97 are you sure that your default sdd is gen3? it should be gen4 (please check again).
if it is gen3 then sure, you can use it in gen3 slot. basically gen3 and gen4 slots are same, just gen4 is much faster (though I cant feel it)

Does it support NVMe PCIe gen4 ssd
One Gen4 and another gen3 slot available. You can insert gen4 SSD to gen3 slot, but performance will not be same theoretically. However, in real life no speed difference noticed.

@@tomtomdu97 there is no reason, but if you have gen4 ssd you dont wnat to waste it.
The laptop comes with a 512gb gen4 ssd in gen4 slot. So you need to purchase a gen3 ssd for gen3 slot because its the olny empty slot. I did the same.
Now if you purchase 1tb gen4 you need to use that in gen4 slot. So 512gb gen4 ssd will be extra and can be use in gen3 slot but will not get high grade performance.
