Thanks Drew, these colors need testing to see what they look like. It all started when when I sprayed some paint and it didn't look like what I thought it would. So I painted to whole line and it clicked, maybe others out there would like to see these results too

These are my favorite paints as well, and was really great watching you work with them. I ended up having to clear coat any kit I use these on with the Mr. Color UV cut, since I love displaying them in natural light to really show off that sparkle. The sapphire is hands down my favorite, it looks even more stunning in person and also makes an excellent pearlescent over white. I was expecting a deeper jewel tone for the ruby, but it ended up being a great color for my Char kits that I wanted a metallic finish on (also if you add a dash of topaz and spray over silver you can get a really neat rose gold effect). Great vid as always!

@@barbatosrex9473 Just a quick follow up question if I may; I noticed you used Mr Leveling Thinner and not Mr Rapid Thinner. So are these “crystal” paints not considered metallic? They seem to give a kind of metallic anodized look. Have you tried it with MRT? I’m just curious if there would be a noticeable difference.

I believe this type of paint is called "Interference Pearl/Ghost Pearl" in the automotive finish trade. Over black you see them fully, over white or other colors they have a ghost effect and only show on highlights

I remember seeing a customised Mazda a few years back, standing behind the car it looked like it had a really nice white pearlescent paint job. Then as I moved around, I could just see the faintest hint of a candy red, but only at certain angles. It was almost subliminal. Well and truly a ghost effect.

So it's basically a pre-mixed pearlex. Well not quite you still need to mix thinner, but still very cool. If you haven't tried it yet you should try mixing in pearlex powders into some clear. and spray it over various colors like this. I mean you could mix it in with your base paint as well... but I've always added it to my first coat of clear and then sprayed plain high gloss clear or 2k after wards.

I used the moonstone pearl on white parts like gundam, and it's quite close to somekind of limited coating model after a clear coating.
But for other Crystal Colors on white, they look a little yellow, maybe they used natual mica in it.

Green Stuff World calls them metal filters, but also has them denoted as interference colors. I remember seeing these colors a long time ago when Utrecht came out with some and most of the other artist brands also. Hi, have a few questions for you.
So you can spray them without using a primer? I thought you need to prime everything first but you spray it over bare plastic.
Did you spray the tamiya black over primer or bare plastic?
What needle size did you use?
Can you use it over matt/flat black?
Do you need to gloss coat them or only after applying decals?
    Great video!

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  2 роки тому +2

A primer is not needed. Lacquers stick to plastic. I find that acrylics always needed a primer but not for lacquers or enamels. I sprayed the Tamiya directly over plastic. You could say the Tamiya was the primer itself. I used a 0.2mm but with this paint any needle size is fine. It works just as well over flat black. I sprayed it over flat black here in the video, the smaller spoon is Matt. No need to Gloss them before you decal. Only after decal would you want to clear it.
      Thanks for watching

I do love the XC06, but I have a word of caution - it absolutely NEEDS that levelling thinner. I've tried normal mr.color thinner, and vallejo thinner out of curiosity (I no longer use this AT ALL), and these will cause the paint to ball up when you're trying to mix it. The XC06 will make an Altron gundam look absolutely fantastic.
EDIT: Also, you can darken it up just a little bit with a light layer of Turbo Dork's Emerald Nightmare on top - if you can still find it at this point.
