Dracula was some of his best work. NBC pissed me royally by canceling it.
He was SO good in this…I was DEVASTATED when there was no Season 2.
Reasons for why he is distant in this interview:
1.) He is a method actor. His character is morally distant, thus for now, so is he.
2.) He is still in rehab, anyone still in rehab is going to seem outwardly distant.
I love how he inhales his characters completely , so much that it sticks to him. His acting is superb , he's a natural. I am determined to tell him this in person!

I think he has so much in common with Dracula personally,the part is just right for him..really admire Jonathan Rhys Meyers..he has depth

Regardless of what people think of his demeanor in this interview, Jonathan is a great actor and he really remains true to character throughout. He really distinguishes how Dracula isn't meant to be just this romantic thing by highlighting the fact that Grayson really can be and is terrible.
And Jonathan's a god, so there's that.

That's because he is a true actor, he has truly invested himself into the role of Dracula. You can see other interviews where he is a cheerful Irish boy but here he is very dark, like someone who was denied peace of death.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is such a talented and charismatic actor. Love him!

Am I the only one with no complaints about this interview? I don't find his personality bothersome at all. He is well-spoken and gave thought-out, intelligent answers. I especially like his description of Dracula at 2:57 to the end.
I don't have a problem with him. I DO have a problem with the video and the sound that keeps cutting out.
BTW, I absolutly love the way he says Dracula.
I've never seen Jonathon Rhys Meyers before and I'm kinda glad because I just fell in love with his character Dracula, I didn't want to see any 'about the show' or anything cause I was caught up in the programme etc, but now I have and OMG he's Irish too ! :)

The thing I noticed in his interviews is he is very straight forward and professional. In his movies he plays either scary or straight forward people, normal the actor picks the character that is closest to his true self.

I don't think he sounds arrogant! He's just serious and he is giving answers that shows his interest and intelligence. I do think he's a bit distant here but hey, he could be tired, sick or just simply in a bad mood, just like everyone else can be and I don't think he's arrogant at all for that - just normal. We all have those days. I hope he's ok and staying away from the alcohol. He's a fantastic actor; and a funny, kind, experienced and smart man who doesn't deserve to have those problems xxx
I whole heartily agree!!! I LOVE seeing him in the role of Dracula. I heard about NBC withholding his pay due to a violation in his contract related to his alcohol abuse. I'm not sure how much truth there is to those claims but it definitely makes my heart jump a few beats because I would be devastated if the show got cancelled or he gets replaced. I mean he plays it so well.

Jonathan has said he often likes to stay in his current character even when he isn't filming sometimes. I remember seeing an interview he did when he was doing the Tudors and he was quite serious and intense and talked sort of like Henry. He also spoke with an English accent. Maybe he might be doing the same with this interview?

i have not seen any better vampire/dracula show ! cant beleve there are so menny shitty vamp shows or movies but they cancel the only one that was truly genius !! i mean they did like 4-5 twilight movies, and they had millions of people going craizey about it, but they kill this amaizing series after the 1. season ??????? FUUUUUUUCK!!!! .... wath a shame -.-

I so know what u mean. Its like he's there but not there at the same time.Combined with those haunting eyes,perfect moustache and dark hair,he almost has a hollow ghostly appearance.
If you notice when he is talking about his caracter as dracula he talk about his self saying he's in pain in list.. I never saw him in other movies but he stole my hart .. hope everything is fine now in his life.

Jonathan Harker's Character is an all out a**-hole and not a hero in my book.
Dracula is the hero and should receive happiness and love of a wonderful woman.

I really admire these guys. I would love to have a role in one of these types of shows/movies. Loved the show. Wish they would have kept it going for a bit longer.

He aint lost anything but gained everything.. Please come back as Grayson!, quality tv at last., only disagree with you on one thing.- Harker was not the Hero., not at least in my eyes.. Grayson/Drac was.. I just wanted him to get his girl, and the finale was perfect, because he did just that.. The whole series as been an on the edge of my seat, trying not to look, trying not bawl my eyes out, loving every minute of it Drac-fest. Please, lets have another

I enjoyed this interview BUT why were the questions from the interviewer and some of Mr. Rhys Meyers answers edited? The show is great. Just as he says, it is so easy to get lost in the show due to the great sets and wonderful costumes. the acting is epic. Best of luck to all of those involved in this production.

I can understand method acting, and his performance in Tudors was excellent to say the least. But he seems a tad bit distant here, and the interview seems clipped.
I lovvvvve this show I use NBC app to watch it I stayed up all night whaching every episode I have loved vampires since I was 5 it's my fav monster but I see him Dracula as a nice sweet kind vampire he was just VERY angry what they done to him in the past love you I would send fan mail but I don't know how HAHA

Shame on all those network "suits" who summarily decided to cancel a great show with promising ideas for future episodes. Sets, costumes, acting all top notch. It was an intelligent and entertaining show so of course they would cancel it when TV today panders to the lowest common denominator. Again I say SHAME ON THEM!!!

Great pronunciation on Dracula, I'll give him that. Best I've heard from actors. I'm aware there's not much interest for Romanian language, but if you're doing a series that revolves on a Romanian prince, you can at least pronounce it right. :) It's only one word.. two friggin' letters.

well my point was that if they wanted to grab peoples interest, especially if they were unaware of the Dracula history they should have told even some of it in the first episode because the back story is rather beautiful
he went through a lot last few years...when he was charged with drunkenness in Dublin, his mother had passed away 3 days later...nov. 21 :((...he was in rehab to get better after all he went through...He wants to be part of big productions but stupid directors don't have any roles for him..so he came up with Dracula, which is a brilliant version of Dracula...He always gets too much into his roles...seems like he has lost a lot of weight, hope he's not on any drugs...:(( He's too smart to waste his life....He's not into fame anyways... (he must have had too much of everything when people thought he tried to kill himself... who knows what goes through his heart....I don't believe he meant to do it, but he could have gotten hurt..)..Don't lose your Irish accent Jonathan, and dont let America, or Hollywood change you...Colin Farrell and bunch of other actors still have their accents!! WE LOVE YOU THE WAY YOU ARE.....you wouldn't be you if you had CHANGED and become Americanish!?
I just finished rewatching Dracula, and I just can't see how Harker is even the hero. In each progressing episode I was finding more and more reasons to hate him. Hell, I was even starting to not like Van Helsing too. I felt like Greyson was the anti-hero we needed, especially with getting revenge from what appears to be a corrupted religious cult. Then again, it's too bad that NBC had canceled something with a lot of potential.

I think he's just still rather in character.
I love this show sooo much I have never been this obsessed with any show EVER! But honestly, I think this show isnt going to have a second season because its ratings aren't the best and Jonathon has an alcoholic problem serious enough to for NBC to hold his pay until filming ended. And right now I think Jonathon is in rehab.... I hope he gets well, supposedly his alcoholism is worse than we think :(

he's lost something... the power with which he played in Tudors... it's not present in his acting in Dracula. I don't know what's going on in his life, or maybe he is just getting older/evolving. but he's lost something. Also, why are his eyes always so red in Dracula?

Maybe his method acting is getting the best of him here? He might just be stuck in his character. It's a pretty dark role it takes a lot out of you to perform. It might be that.
People are judging him ..Jezz there's some times were tired or like some people have said maby he's still in character.Either way so what if he wasn't giving it a 100% in the interview aslong as he gives it 100% in the show and he does he's very dark and interesting ,love the show..Anyways why dosent everybody watch the show and judge him on his performance am sure it was just an off day lol
