I began playing 2 years ago next month at age 69. I play off and on everyday throughout the day. Ashokan Farewell was my stretch goal from the beginning and still one of my favorite pieces to play. Thanks for your channel. 🎻

75 year old guitar player. Been playing fiddle about 5 years. Old Time music is my favorite. I find that the Tune Project videos, coupled with my ear and the sheet music library, are a complete set of learning tools. Now all I need is about four more hours in each day.

I started playing violin 21 months ago. I am enjoying the videos you post and also the ability to access the sheet music to go along with them. I enjoy playing folk more than the classical music and hope to improve on my technique as time passes. Thank you for sharing your talent on UA-cam!

I've been playing on-and-off for about ten years. I had a rough patch where my fiddle sat in a dusty corner. Discouragement can be difficult to overcome but the Tune Project has helped me break out and enjoy playing again. Thanks.

I started violin 3 years ago right before COVID and couldn’t even read music. I’ve just been learning this month about ornaments and last week a friend mentioned the music from the “Ken Burns Civil War” movie which I looked up and started to play. Today UA-cam served up this video which is exactly on the mark of where I am in my playing!!

is a gift from God! And I can’t help falling in love with this instrument
and want to share it with the world one day Ill jave enough violins to help schools and people with ptsd and depression or just some one that simply loves to play no matter what mark my words not for the money but for the love!

I am a classically trained violinist who started violin with the Suzuki method at the age of 6, I’m 54 now, moved to Knoxville, TN two years ago and dove into learning to play fiddle music during the pandemic and restarted teaching violin after an injury. I have been watching many videos and I really enjoy your videos. I was just going to ask about your mic on your violin and then you got to the give away section! I have had to play outdoors a few times here in TN and had to do a bunch of research about mics and amps which I knew nothing about. THanks for all your educational videos. I am a subscriber.

Thanks for sharing, Lesli! I too started at the age of 6 with the Suzuki method. The giveaway ended a few weeks ago, but I still would recommend the LR Baggs pickup and DI for what it sounds like you’d be doing!

Hey all. Ornamentation escapes me, I never think about it until I hear someone else doing it and I wish I knew more... I have been playing violin/fiddle/and now viola for twenty years now. Mostly for myself but I do get out and play for others every once in a great while. My preference in style is what I call "coffee style" dark and broody. I enjoy gypsy, grunge, blues and "Texas Outlaw" (Waylon Jennings, and the whole cast of Texas Song Writers who's music told a story). Anyway, Thank You for your video, I enjoy them very much.

I have been playing since mid-January, and I love my instrument!! I started performing with the violin in a worship group (I have been so far playing the flute). Ashoken farewell is an awesome piece! I downloaded it and will be working on it. I appreciate the clarity of your tutorials. What led me to your video is that I wanted to know how to play an ornament in the first measure of 'Where the river Flows - Jig' (Pete Crockett & Allan McKinlay)?

    I tune in contralto D ,D A E B ,a fourth below G soprano,or a step above tenor,I the first with 2 up and 2 down in tension.With D to E minor on top I can do catalog that I would have to transpose or not perform.Some tune down a third to E ,or E B F# C# or E B G D,F C G D is also excellent.Old Chris a retired fiddler of Albuquerque NM

i have always desired and longed to be able to read music. I was self taught by playing bass in bar bands since my teens. When I finally played in a band where everybody read. I WAS SHOCKED at how ignorant they were at basic “songsmanship”. Now I feel i wanna stay blissfully ignorant.

Great lesson, really enjoyed it! I’m new to the fiddle although it seems to come relatively “easy” to me since I play bluegrass and play the other instruments in that genre quiet good. Could you possibly make a lesson on some cliche bluegrass licks/fills? I find it hard to find much information on that topic and I think it’s a good thing to get started with improvisation.😁
    Cheers from Sweden
