Color Combo Lesson
Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!
The Color Wheel works. Specifically, the Color Wheel was developed to help us predetermine our color palette before we begin to paint.
If we choose to implement those suggested combinations of colors on your color wheel, we increase our potential of success with every painting. I know we don't like to follow "rules" but this is one rule I follow. By choosing my color combination before painting, I'm more certain the painting will hold together.
There are many color wheels. My Goof-Proof Color Wheel is only one of them. I've modified and combined different color wheels and in the process, developed a different way of thinking about color combinations for me. As shown in the video, my Goof-Proof Color Wheel uses only four colors:
•Dominant Color - 80% of the footprint
•Focal Point Color - 10% of the footprint
•Two Spice Colors - 5% each of the footprint. Spice Colors are placed around the Focal Point Color and helps to draw attention to the focal point.
Important note: Although I use only four colors, I have the freedom to use several variations of each color. Now I have choices while painting. Doesn't everyone like choices?
Keep your brush wet and colorful!

Your color wheel is genius and it has opened up a whole new world for me.
Thank you - it is a version of the Munsell Color System. Initially, I adapted it to match my Holbein acrylic paints.
I just found your channel on UA-cam by accident today. I love painting its ben a long time and am not the greatest but you make my heart happy. Thank you for the videos sir !
Thank you very much! Keep painting - you will only get better!
Thanks Bob, I love your comments, especially "a painting is never over, it just stops", I will have to rethink a lot of my future paintings as I adopt your methods. I can watch you paint for hours and hours, thanks JB (UK)
Thank you Joyce! I appreciate your kind words!
"... if you want to be sure of the end result don't be a painter, be an engineer or something.." lol, I love that comment 💖
Thank you for appreciating my humor...
You are a great artist and a great master. Love from London UK 👋. I am a proud subscriber of your channel 🌄👏
Thank you very much! I appreciate your support!
Bob, you're great!! Thank you for doing what you love and sharing it with the world. You deserve all the happiness that you give to us given right back to you, sir! Fantastic!! 😃🖌

Bob, really enjoy your color wheel "Bob Blast" tutorials. Thank you. Stay safe and well ❤
Thank you very much!
Wow ! Surprise your self. Lol love watching I always learn something thanks
I love, love, love seeing you paint flowers & vases, thank you Bob!
Your color wheel has ten sections. This deviates from the average 3, 6, 9, and 12 sided wheels. It does give your paintings whimsical feel. I tend to compliment my yellow with the violet purple because of the old wheel. I may need to give this a try.
Another magical painting. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
I love to watch Bob Blast!
“Anyone who doesn’t change their mind …. Doesn’t have one.” Love that.
HaHa!! “I’m not a botanist!!” Gotta love it!! Such a great color combo slam-dunk…thanks, Bob!!

Thankyou for teaching this, I’ve painted for years but never used a color wheel because I didn’t know how to use it.
I love watching you paint, I learn so much. I just sat and nodded my head and smiled with you as you quipped “A painting is never over, it just stops.” Truer words were never spoken 😉.
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom, and your wit. You are truly a gift to us all.

I learned alot, thanks for posting!
Thank You Thank You!
Amazing as usual . ❤
Thank you!
Using the twig is a very smart idea! I get tired of stepping up to the painting an stepping back. Thank you for a great idea.🥰🙏🙃
There is a great photo of Henri Matisse painting/drawing with twigs - also brushes on the end of twigs! One of my favorites!
@@RobertBurridge that is fantastic. I love his paintings too. I'll have to look that up at the library.😊🙏
That was fun, thanks!
It’s like magic what you’re doing there! I LOVE watching your painting process, especially when you talk while doing it, which must be difficult. Thank you for sharing these BobBlasts with us!

Thank you for posting all of these great videos...it is really helpful. How about if I want to use Monochrome colour palette? In this case what would be my focal point colour and what would be the spice colours to make sure I still have good contrast? How do you decide?
I just love you. That is all.
❤💛
excellent
Thank you!
Purple, here I come🤗
Love your tutorials and the way you use colors! What is the brand and # of the fat round brush you use in making your carrot people figures?
Greetings from Gibraltar, Europe. Thank you for this - I have learned more from you in 10 minutes than in the last 3 months.
I wish my finished pieces looked like your sketches.
Beutiful 😍mashallah
Thank you!
I love watching u-----
Each piece of your series has great drama . From your gentleness comes great bursts of energy, and fun. Thank you .
Thank you, Linda!
I just started painting. You give the best classes. Thank you for your teaching skills you share. Do you do shadow animals?
Hi Cary, Thanks for your comment! I don't quite understand your question about shadowing animals... can you ask it a different way?
I enjoy your tutorials. But I tried looking on Amazon for a color wheel like you showed. Cant find it. Can you list the brand or where I can get one. Thank you
😲 Great video. I wonder if same concept can work for digital artwork. 🤔
I think it would! Would love to see what you come up with!
you're the last video I'm watching of 2021 and the first video of 2022.
Just discovering you and am so appreciating all of your demos, knowledge, and tips! I see that you paint right on the wall. Do you tape your painting up or tack it? I tend to tape 1/4” along the edges for a white border, but sometimes the paint seeps under.
Also,, if using oil, you gesso your watercolor paper with acrylic, correct? Any specific one you would recommend and both sides or just the top?
Thank you!
Thank you for your comments and questions! I paint flat - on a table covered with 4 MIL plastic - my table is my palette. If I want to make a border, I use the yellow FrogTape. I gesso my watercolor paper - the gesso is acrylic. My favorite brand is Utrecht's Professional Gesso. Gesso just one side.
Sorry, I mean what are the exact names of the secondary colors on your wheel -I know I could guess but I’d like to use the colors you are using thanks Bob
🖼️🖌️🎨❤️🙏💪👍👍👍
Bob, do you heat set the image in addition to using an UV varnish, or just the varnish? Also, would a spray UV varnish, i.e., Krylon work? Thanks.
Thank you Bob! Did I hear you say these are WATERCOLOR????
Have been wanting a color wheel for awhile but can't figure out where to buy one.

Bob, How do I get one of these color wheels? "Color Wheels on sale! 25% discount!
Goof-Proof Color Wheel or any Color Wheel Combo""
Please tell me the color names I cannot read the colors on your color wheel! Thx❤️
Where did you get that particular colour wheel ?
Good morning Robert where can I get your amazing colour wheel please?
Cheers Jane 😍
Hi Jane - you can purchase my Goof-Proof Color Wheel on my website - www.RobertBurridge.com - We have a secure shopping cart system. Thanks for your interest!
So you use acrylic on water colour paper? Does it warp? Do you frame it like a water colour? Sometimes you use a lot of water that would appear to be too much and would affect the integrity of the paint (binders) adhesion. Isn’t that an issue past the first layer that will soak into the paper?
New into this idea---
Do you paint in acrylic????
What the pallet??????
If I may…..he uses Holbein acrylics and typically his pallet is a table covered with 4 mil plastic sheet. I’ve seen him peel off and reuse the dried paint later on in his abstracts.
Where can we purchase your color wheel?
Why not finished pieces... they are beautiful!
