    Not sure if you know this or not, but if your electric brakes go then you can just gear down to 2 or 1, then you let the engine do all the work instead of burning out your brakes and warping the rotors. Maybe you knew this but I was just trying to help. Great footage, take care, Alan

    One other thing I've been meaning to mention....when putting your slides in or out, try so stop before they start ratcheting/clicking. Ease them in or out. I've been told the ratcheting you hear is the gear overriding the notches in the slid bar....if that makes any sense....I hope.
    And a heat/temperature gun is a good thing to have for checking brakes.

    I've driven that road many times. The first time can be intimidating but once you see a semi coming through you realize it can't be too bad. The north end is the worst, that's where the real pucker factor sets in. It's called the Million Dollar Highway because it's base is made from mine tailings that contain low-grade gold ore.
    The reason your fresh tank takes so long to fill is the hose reel has a small diameter hose on it. To fill faster carry a short hose and fill through the pour-in spout.

    • @wildrvlife
      @wildrvlife  16 днів тому

      unfortunately, a lot of the newer RVs like ours don't come with a gravity feed water spout opening. We could get a shorter hose to connect to the nautilus system, but it would still be slower than the gravity feed. We've just accepted our slow fill rate lol

  • @matsulli2086
    @matsulli2086 Рік тому +2

    We have driven our 30ft motorhome pulling our ATV trailer over that highway. Easy actually as there is little elevation climbs, you just take your time over the highway.
    Never drag your brakes, pump, let them cool and gear down.
    The real challenge is inclement weather, or rock falls shortly after a rain.

    My wife’s grandfather helped build The Million Dollar Highway. And that hairpin curve you pointed out with the road above it is the bottom of Ophir Pass. It’s a gorgeous trail. The staging area where you were parked is the bottom of Imogene Pass. That is a super cool road. You can take it for a while before you need high clearance and a OHV.

    Feel your pain. Our rear jack failed first trip out and brakes were bad when we picked up our rig from dealer. Rig is currently in shop getting the new brakes and jack repaired. Tip about filling your fresh tank. If you take off your pressure regulator while filling and watch your level so you don’t overfill, it will not take as long. I have done this twice and it works faster. Don’t forget to put your regular back on when you are done. Stay safe!

    When warranty out I would ditch the furrion Acs and clean roof up with more solar. Add mini split to it. We run our entire electrical with 4500 watts and 13k inverters. The 13k overkill but we use way less than that. Our mini splits pull very little power compared to rv units. Cool better too.

    Don’t know how big your fresh water tank is but I’m amazed that you want to haul all that water up over mountains and have the weight of the water to add to the stopping power you need. I know you boondock but maybe consider filling the water closer to your new boondocking spot. Also all that water helps to kill your gas mileage.

    Most large rigs enter the Ironton camping area by coming form the North (heading south) so its a straight shot in the entrance you took (which was the correct one). The area is very popular because its on one of the main off roading (dirt bikes, side by side, atv, jeep) trails that connects to the engineers pass loop trail system in the area. Also, you were less than 1/2 mile south of a moose viewing area (dusk and early mornings).

    Victoria... Love your permanent smile! Keep it up! Craig... I have a 2019 RAM, emissions in-tact and I installed a product you might like. An Edge EZX tuner that provides you adjustable increased HP if you think you need it (I don't) as well as the ability to initiate parked regen's. That is why I bought it as I was having emissions issues and did not want to delete the truck. The reason you might be interested is it offers a number of other options including "button recall" where it remembers the last position your tow/haul, exhaust brake, parking sensors, etc were set when you shut the engine off. No need to reset everything when you start up (i.e. exhaust brake when descending hills!) I leave mine on all the time. Another option it gives you transmission gear display 100% of the time, ability to re-set your low tire pressure warning threshold, and the ability to have fog lamps with high beams. It is 100% plug and play and works via bluetooth to a smartphone app. Pretty cool product, check it out.
    A question. In one of your video's I saw what appeared to be an auto slide 5th wheel in your truck? If so, what brand is it and do you like it? Does it save you in tight spaces? I have one back window experience and now have a manual slide 5th wheel, but I have nearly forgotten it a few times now. Wife yelling STOP! saves me every time, but she looks out the back window every turn I make now! Would buy one if they work as advertised.
    Keep up the great content. Enjoy it all!

    Coming from an experienced OTR truck driver - when driving through the mountains proceeding downhill, be sure to have applied the Tow/Haul and use the lower gears (second) to proceed downhill. You will still have to apply your brakes periodically, but by allowing you transmission to do the breaking for you - your trip will be uneventful and you’ll save your brakes. Exhaust breaking is available on the new diesel pickups.
    Parking: I hate to admit it but sometimes I just save time and aggravation by parking in two stalls. I also like to back-in to the stalls so I can pull straight out - it’s easier that way; especially with a dually.
    Love your shows. Be safe - always have fun! Ride the wave of blessing

    Recall on the brakes, broken mobo on the auto levelling system buuuuuuut *AMAZING* customer service, was gonna say killer but no, amazing is better. The machines we have today in this amazing time we live in are soooo complicated, unimaginably so my SO is a software dev so I see just how insanely complicated even supposedly simple stuff is, so everything has bugs or faults and it takes a good company to admit that fix them as quickly and as best they can. You picked well guys.
    To take a step back with everything we have today, technology wise, is just so crazy! Which to me as someone who may not look it but is old enough to have used dial up regularly and was proud of my separate landline (WITH ITS OWN NUMBER LIKE OMG) in my bedroom, and my first like 3 mobile phones were B&W (Well Black and green lol), & first colour phone still didn’t have a camera & when it did? Enjoyed watching you guys on the Million Dollar Highway, I have driven that road for the last 26 years in all types of weather, the road is not for the faint of heart. However it is a fun and beautiful road. Several years ago we drove over the Million Dollar Raod twice in the same day. We had a 30' bumper pull travel trailer and a 2015 Dodge Ram1500 with A 5.7 Hemi gas engine. The Dodge did just fine and no problems just take your time and go slow down hill. Have fun in Colorado.

    Yes, the section of the Million Dollar Highway (CO Hwy 550) between Ouray and Silverton is definitely the sketchiest part of that drive, and even more so during inclement weather or the winter months...and much more hairy than the Silverton to Durango side. However, in terms of scariest highway in America, I would say that U.S. Hwy 1 through Big Sur in CA will give the MDH a run for its money. Both are VERY narrow roads with sharp curves, big drop-offs and almost no shoulders...both are definitely highways where the driver does not get to enjoy the scenery because they have to keep their eyes glued to the road (whether you are towing a rig or not)!

It was a hot day and my truck even started to overheat on the uphills. Brand new truck and camper at that time too. Learned my lesson and have not got over 50,000 miles traveled with my 33’ Grand Design. Hope that brake recall on your Brinkley isn’t too serious. Yes, have done the Million Dollar Highway a couple of times in our 33 ft Jayco 5th wheel pulled by a Ram 2500 with a 6.4 gas motor. I enjoyed the drive. Be sure to go YOUR speed and don't let the tailgaters impact how you drive. I learned a long time ago that no matter how fast you drive there will be a tailgater who wants to go faster. This spring we lost our 5th wheeler brakes just before the Eisenhower tunnel on the way east to Denver. Just put the truck in now gear and got behind some slow semis. We all made it to Denver.

    Yes' been on the M$ Highway.. but it was on a motorcycle. While you do have more space in the lane due to the size of the bike there are 2 issues. 1. If you went off the road you have way less protection than a car/truck. 2. Other vehicles on the road (especially rvs) seem to think that since your a bike and smaller that you dont need the whole lane and come over the center line a lot.

    • @wildrvlife
      @wildrvlife  Рік тому +1

    Parking our Ram 3500 dually long box is not that bad in the city. Not easy though! We have to parallel park in front of our house so we’re getting lots of practice! Hubs went downtown once to pick me up from work & I won’t drive it to work because our compound has been cut in half due to work on the overpass in it. It takes up a lot of space! We did find parking in Jasper, Alberta but it wasn’t summer but still busy. I’m rather chill about stuff but we plan on parking on the edge of town’s & cycling in (not e-bikes but ‘real’ bikes).
    We have the Icefields Parkway (#93) that is almost similar to that highway but I think is a bit wider & definitely less hairpins, but the views are amazing! It was that highway that determined which truck to get…can pull a fifth wheel through it without holding up traffic. Too much.

      It’s a Lippert thing. Ours aren’t showing any signs of the issue but what apparently is happening is the brakes tend to fade, so we will get them replaced eventually just to be safe. It’s not just Brinkleys, because other manufacturers are using those Lippert brakes too but you should get a notification from your manufacturer if yours has it.
