    I played my first game of this today. Ancients and I played it as written with no modifications. Absolutely loved it and it was one of the most nail biting games I've played in a long time. These rules are so simple but deceptively so. You still need to keep your tactical head about you to be successful. You could get in a nice multi game campaign in a single afternoon. I plan to do a lot more gaming with this rule set.

    Nice to see the more modern modern rules in use. Not used to seeing all that shooting!

    Thanks enjoyed the game and your table. The Neil Thomas rulebook is very interesting, I love the simplicity ethos of just getting a game to table, but for my own preferences they are a little too stripped back. I wish he had just inserted an additional page to give some command and morale rules, as tat would bring more nuance to the game for little overhead. Of course, with such a solid engine, house rules are very easily bolted on.

      Yes agreed I think one of the beauties to it is that you can also deliver a game of any scale company to battalion etc. And yes house rules can be added at any stage. Thanks for the feedback 👍

    Nice game and video, Greg. I use a different system for damage markers, as I use smaller (15mm and 6mm) figures. I use 1cm lengths of matchstick, with some painted red to represent 5 hits.

    Since there is no melee phase, I think the German inf. would have to shoot it out with the British art. instead of just picking up the artillery unit like you did. However, I believe that the art. unit would have been eliminated by fire in a few turns anyways, so it is just delaying the inevitable.

    Great video. I play this too - ACW, Ancient, Dark Age. What size board are you using? And what is the figure scale?

      Thanks 👍 The table is 8’ by 3’ although I don’t use all the width. The figures are all 28mm.

    Do you feel the rules capture the feel of WW1 well enough to differ from WW2?

    • @WargamingWorld
      @WargamingWorld  Рік тому +2

      I think that the rules are designed to be simple and therefore you can pick up anything from ancients to WW2 easily. The nuance is really up to the players themselves to agree whether they add “home rules”. I play solo and therefore it’s easy to add “imagination” and “interpretation”. It’s really your call whether to be “true” to the rules, or add. If we think about WW1 then 1914 and 1918 are so different and therefore it’s the players’ interpretation that makes the best games. Hope that’s useful and thanks for asking 👍
